BACKGROUND: In these modern times of digitization, the use of Internet has become an integral part of everyday life, especially the lives of adolescents. At the same time, Internet addiction has emerged as a serious affliction. However, the impact of Internet addiction on these crucial years of life has not been well studied in India. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of Internet addiction in adolescents of the urban areas of Kamrup district and assess its association with depression, anxiety, and stress. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among students of higher secondary schools/colleges in the urban areas of Kamrup district in Assam. Out of 103 government and private higher secondary school/colleges of Kamrup district, Assam, 10 colleges were selected randomly, and a total of 440 students were enrolled in the study. A pretested, predesigned questionnaire, Young's Internet Addiction Scale, and Depression Anxiety Stress Scales 21 (DASS21) were used in the study. Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used to assess the association between Internet addiction and depression, stress, and anxiety. RESULTS: Majority (73.1%) of the respondents were females, and mean age was 17.21 years. The prevalence of Internet addiction was 80.7%. The main purpose of using Internet was social networking (71.4%) followed by study (42.1%), and majority (42.1%) reported spending 3-6 hours a day on internet. There was a significant association between Internet addiction and stress (odds ratio=12), depression (odds ratio=14), and anxiety (odds ratio=3.3). CONCLUSION: Internet addiction is a serious problem with a profound impact on mental health. Therefore, early intervention is crucial.

This article focuses on the important aspects of social science, in particular the study of national-ethnic relations and processes that are related to the matters of interethnic relations, the improvement and development of the ethnic policy. National and ethnic conflicts in the 1980's of the 20th century, one of the most important factors of the collapse of the former USSR, and their causes and consequences were analyzed in the context of the 1989 events in Uzbekistan. Also, the deportation of Meskhetian Turks living in the Georgian SSR from their habitations to Central Asia during the Second World War, and efforts of Meskhetian Turks to return to their homeland is covered. The author pointed out that during the 1980's of the 20th century, Meskhetian Turks' movement to their homeland had been hindered by the former center [Moscow] and used their attempt for their political motives. The article mentions the serious causes and consequences of national relations in Uzbekistan, which was part of the former USSR in 1989. In particular, in 1989, the clashes between the Uzbeks and the Meskhetian Turks in the Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan were analyzed and the factors causing this conflict. The author cited a number of arguments in the article that the relationship between the Uzbek and Meskhetian Turks was artificially eroded. He also proposed to study the events of 1989 in separate regional and periodic stages. The article outlines the measures taken since the first days of independence in Uzbekistan to improve interethnic relations and, consequently, stabilize the socio-political situation in the country. It has also been pointed out that all nationalities have equal rights in the national policy developed during the years of independence. Measures to improve interethnic relations during the years of independence of Uzbekistan have been illustrated by examples of national-cultural centers that have been set up to meet national needs. As well as the Strategy of action of the perspective development of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021 has been developed and on the basis of this the project concept of priority directions of inter-ethnic policy in the field of interethnic relations was developed and the tasks of scientific and research works that are devoted to develop and harmonize the friendship relations with foreign countries are highlighted. В статье рассматривается современное состояние процесса обучения иностранному языку в финансовых университетах и перспективы его развития. Современные экономические, социальные, политические и профессиональные изменения, происходящие в России, ставят перед будущими специалистами новые задачи по развитию их профессионально ориентированной речевой подготовки. На основе анализа научной и методической литературы и собственного педагогического опыта автор статьи обосновывает значимость дисциплины «Иностранный язык» в образовательном пространстве экономического вуза. Анализируется понятие «вторичной языковой личности» и связанные с ней особенности организации процесса иноязычного обучения.Цель. Статья посвящена определению основных составляющих процесса иноязычного образования и путей его оптимизации в современном финансовом университете.Метод или методология проведения работы. На основе анализа научной, педагогической и методической литературы и собственного педагогического опыта обосновано современное состояние иноязычной подготовки студентов экономического профиля.Область применения результатов. Результаты исследования могут использоваться профессорско-преподавательским составом кафедр иностранных языков вузов экономического профиля для оптимизации процесса обучения иностранному языку. ; The article deals with the current status of foreign language education of students of financial universities and focuses on its future development. Modern economic, social, political and professional changes taking place in Russia challenge students to develop their professionally oriented foreign language speech training. The author justifies the importance of the subject "Foreign Language" for students of non-linguistic specialties relying on the scientific research and own teaching experience. The concept of the "secondary linguistic identity" and the related features of the process of foreign language training are analyzed.Purpose. The article is devoted to the evaluation of the main components of foreign language education and ways of its development in a modern financial university.Methodology. The current status of foreign language education of students of non-linguistic specialties is justified on the ground of the scientific research and own teaching experience.Results. The results of the research can be used by the academic staff of the Foreign Languages Departments of financial universities to optimize the teaching process.

The article is dedicated to the problem of competitiveness of border regions as subjects of the Russian Federation having specific characteristics. The authors focus on the stages, during which border regions build their competitiveness, as well as analyse certain indices characterizing it. They examine the role of these regions in the development of international trade and economic relations, cross-border cooperation and international integration, taking the North-west federal district and the Republic of Karelia as a case-study. The article describes the mechanisms of building and increasing competitiveness of border regions in today's Russia both in general and, particularly, in the Republic of Karelia as a border region of the North-west federal district.

The author analyzes the problem of literary education of elementary school students in the contemporary cultural space. The article states that the literary education based on literary Propedevtics of younger students and is based on the process of reading fiction. Therefore, it is important to promote reading, promote children's reading and children's book production in Ukraine. The author concludes that the gradual renewal of the education system, particularly literary education of primary school children should be primarily seen in the development of new textbooks and anthologies that will meet the needs and opportunities of the modern child

This paper proposes a framework for rethinking the conservation and appropriation of biological diversity from the perspective of social movements. It argues that biodiversity, although with concrete biophysical referents, is a discourse of recent origin. This discourse fosters a complex network of diverse actors, from international organizations and NGOs to local communities and social movements. Four views of biodiversity produced by this network (centered on global resource management, national sovereignity, biodemocracy, and cultural autonomy, respectively) are discussed in the first part of the paper. The second part focuses on the cultural autonomy perspective developed by social movements. It examines in detail the rise and development of the social movement of black communities in the Pacific rainforest region of Colombia. This movement, it is argued, articulates through their practice an entire political ecology of sustainability and conservation. The main elements of this political ecology are discussed and presented as a viable alternative to dominant frameworks.Key words: political ecology, social movements, rainforest, biodiversity,afrocolombians, global networks.

AbstractI investigate whether obtaining a regulatory seal of approval adds to firm value. For a sample of thirty‐four firms that acquired the insured deposits of failed banks, I find a significantly greater price response for firms that could benefit from obtaining a regulatory seal of approval than for firms that had recently obtained a similar form of approval. Further, abnormal returns to winning bidders are significantly larger when a regulatory seal of approval is likely to be more valuable, i.e., when the industry faces severe economic problems. In addition, bidder gains are significant only in markets where regulatory certification of a firm's health is important—markets that have recently experienced several bank failures. Finally, wealth transfers from the FDIC insurance fund may contribute to bidder gains. The evidence suggests that obtaining a regulatory seal of approval can positively affect firm value.

This article describes and discusses the new generation of methodological responses to measuring democracy and related issues generated by Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem). V-Dem is distinct in several regards in addition to its unique level of disaggregation, by the combination of: historical data extending back to 1900 and for a large selection among them to 1789 for many countries in the world; use of multiple, independent coders for each evaluative question; inter-coder reliability tests incorporated into a custom designed Bayesian item-response theory measurement model; provision of confidence bounds for all point estimates associated with expert-coded questions as well as for all indices; multiple indices reflecting varying theories of democracy; fully transparent aggregation procedures; and that all data are made freely available, including original coder-level judgments (exclusive of any personal identifying information).

Introduction: Due to climate change, scientists around the world, including specialists in the road construction industry, are forced to take into account the need for regular monitoring of the low-temperature properties of both individual building materials and the properties of multicomponent road composites based on them. Therefore, the possibility of developing new approaches and methods for evaluating these properties is being studied. Methods: For these purposes, Dr. Kim Sang-Soo proposed a new method for evaluating the low-temperature properties of road binders, which was called the ABCD (Asphalt Binder Cracking Device) method. The use of the device does not require special skills and knowledge and auxiliary equipment is widely available in laboratories of road construction organizations. The duration of the test does not exceed 4-5 hours. Results: The possibility and effectiveness of regulating the cracking temperature of bitumen-containing binders by introducing styrene-butadiene thermoplastics of various topologies into the composition is shown using the example of industrially produced batches of petroleum road viscous oxidized bitumen and applying the ABCD methodology. Conclusions: In Russia, where winter temperatures in the vast majority of the country fall below minus 30 degrees Celsius, it is extremely important to control the behavior of bitumen binders and multicomponent mixtures of different compositions (asphalt concrete mixtures). The national standard GOST R 58400.11-2019 has been put into effect and the production of appropriate measuring equipment has been established. At the same time, the ABCD method can be used both to study the properties of mixtures of binders with polymers of various topologies and to select a commercial binder that meets the requirements of a specific region of highway operation.

International audience ; On the eve of the First World War, sport had become a phenomenon. On the one hand, the first sports institutions were being structured and started organizing regulated competitions; on the other hand, sport was at the crossroads of performance, technological development and bourgeois sociability – all characteristic of the Belle Époque. The history of sport, whether concerned with sport disciplines and their institutions taken separately or with political or social issues, does not often provide opportunities to capture a clear view of sport in everyday life.Through the analysis of a photographic corpus, we shall try to catch this view, following the reports of the man who is considered today as one of the very first sports photographers in France: Jules Beau. Following the itinerary of this man – a Parisian, member of the French Touring-Club and a cycling enthusiast – offers a special vision (with all the limitations imposed by a monographic study) of the sport phenomenon between 1894 and 1913, the period over which Jules Beau was involved in this activity.The corpus we used for our study comprises 36 volumes of about 100 pages each, which represents some 6,000 photos. Even though the portraits of cyclists make up a large part of the corpus, we shall focus more on Jules Beau's photographic reports displaying the sports events offered to the Parisians of the time. Based on these reports, we shall depict the various facets of the sports phenomenon at the time of the Belle Époque: official competitions, festivals, demonstrations.
