This thesis explores the ongoing accomplishment of ordinary life with dementia and asks how older people variously negotiate and make sense of the obstacles, dilemmas and opportunities of everyday life as lived. The thesis responds to persistent calls to recognise the heterogeneity of people living with dementia and to challenge predominantly negative cultural stereotypes. It draws together parallel developments in contemporary dementia studies, namely the extension of social citizenship into the realm of the ordinary and fresh critiques of the biomedicalisation of ageing, particularly the rapid expansion of its technologies into the domain of cognitive impairment. In different ways, these developments bring a more overtly political impetus to the research agenda. The research study takes the form of 'narrative-in-action' (Alsaker et al, 2009), a mode of Narrative Inquiry that combines Paul Ricoeur's (1984) early narrative theorising with ethnographic methods. The study expands the theoretical underpinnings of this methodology by engaging more deeply with Ricoeur's (1992) elaboration of the dynamic relationships between narrative and life, narrative and temporality, and incorporating critical insights from narrative gerontology. The resultant methodology facilitates an understanding of experiences as expressed in practice and through time by embodied, emotional, relational persons. The study explores the everyday life of three couples, one man and one woman (aged 78-85 years) residing at home in a small Scottish town. This entailed meeting regularly with each person or couple over a period of six or seven months and participating in their choice of everyday activities. The length and intensity of involvement required careful deliberation about the creation and ongoing negotiation of uniquely constructed relationships that altered and deepened as the study progressed. Narrative analysis engaged with events, happenings and the various shifting and patterned meanings made within the flow of actions in different settings and over time, and was informed by Ricoeur's (1984, 1992) notions of mimesis, emplotment and narrative identity. The resultant narratives offer a nuanced understanding of different ways of living with dementia in later life. They illustrate how meanings were made in different situations and over time, depicting diverse implicit or purposeful ways of resisting the dominant cultural narrative of loss and contributing to ordinary social life. These distinctions were manifest in the dynamic, dialogic configuration of identities. Despite these differences, the spectre of testing coloured each narrative, extending its reach into recollections of the past and also influencing the ways in which future possibilities were embraced, discounted or denied. This spectre also impacted upon the larger task of trying to make meaning of life as a whole in the face of ageing and memory loss. The thesis augments current conceptualisations of citizenship-as-practice in dementia studies through the construct of recognition. It also highlights the potential of the narrative-in-action methodology to enrich the notion and study of 'narrative citizenship' (Baldwin, 2008); in this study, it facilitates an understanding of later life with dementia that is optimistic but not naïve. Taken together the narratives illuminate the risks of prescribing how people should respond to a diagnosis based on observations of how some individuals adapt successfully. Finally, the thesis concludes that unless we attend to productive as well as repressive forms of power, there may be increasingly testing times ahead for us all.

De nombreux acteurs territoriaux se mobilisent autour des projets capables de répondre à des urgences territoriales. Cependant, et bien souvent encore, l'action collective qui s'y développe, est décrite comme la déclinaison territoriale d'une commande publique nationale, ou l'opérationnalisation d'un référentiel réglementaire et incitatif mis en place par les pouvoirs publics. En effet, les acteurs territoriaux se mobilisent autour d'un projet donné parce que le contexte politique, institutionnel lui est favorable.Néanmoins, face aux enjeux contemporains de durabilité et/ou de résilience territoriales, les champs d'actions impliquant différents acteurs territoriaux, dans une approche collective se multiplient. Au nombre de ces démarches territoriales pour lesquelles, le rôle de l'Etat ou l'action publique n'est plus un instrument de domination (Weber, 1971), mais plutôt un instrument qui tend à être inclusif, tenant compte des besoins et des objectifs de la société (Schultz, 2014), l'écologie industrielle se distingue comme un mécanisme qui repose à la fois sur une volonté des pouvoirs publics, et plus particulièrement une pluralité d'acteurs disposant de compétences diverses et variées (Buclet, 2011).Approche s'inspirant du fonctionnement en « boucles » des écosystèmes naturels, l'écologie industrielle vise à passer d'une économie linéaire non viable (extraction, production/consommation, émissions ou rejets) à une économie circulaire optimisée en s'appuyant sur l'échange de résidus de flux de matières, la mutualisation d'équipements entre acteurs industriels, etc. afin de réduire l'impact de leurs activités sur l'environnement (Barles, 2014). Longtemps réduite aux périmètres industriels, c'est-à-dire aux zones industrielles, l'écologie industrielle va connaître l'émergence d'une dimension territoriale s'appuyant sur des symbioses industrielles offrant des possibilités de valorisation de matières/énergies, de bouclage de flux, de substitution de matières, entre acteurs industriels et/ou économiques à l'échelle d'un territoire plus grand, voire d'une agglomération. Cette dimension territoriale au cœur des projets d'écologie industrielle coïncide avec l'arrivée de nouveaux acteurs ayant des motivations et des compréhensions diverses des enjeux en question. Chacun disposant par ailleurs d'intérêts divers, et de compétences variées. L'écologie industrielle se mue alors en un espace d'action collective où différentes parties prenantes établissent entre elles des interactions capables de déboucher sur un projet territorial. La présente contribution vise ainsi à discuter des fondements de l'action collective au cœur des projets d'écologie industrielle, en présentant quelques facteurs organisationnels et sociaux sur lesquels s'appuient les démarches. En effet, l'écologie industrielle comme espace d'action collective a été longtemps écartée au profit de son fondement techniciste, occultant ainsi les enjeux d'organisation, de cohésion au sein du réseau d'acteurs. Après avoir énuméré quelques grandes théories de l'action collective, cette contribution s'appliquera à souligner les modalités de construction et de mise en œuvre de l'action collective dans le cadre des démarches d'écologie industrielle. En s'appuyant quelque peu sur la grille des proximités (Pecqueur & Zimmerman, 2004 ; Gilly & Torre, 2000) ; notamment dans sa dimension relationnelle (Beaurain & Varlet, 2015), elle répondra à la question des fondements de l'action collective en écologie industrielle, indispensables pour comprendre les mutations organisationnelles et institutionnelles qui favorisent l'émergence d'un réseau d'acteurs autour des démarches d'écologie industrielle d'une part, et la pérennisation de celles-ci d'autre part. En d'autres termes, il s'agit de démontrer en quoi et comment les projets d'écologie industrielle peuvent être considérés comme des espaces d'action collective.

Addictive behaviors related to psychoactive substances are characterized by a dependence revealed by the repeated impossibility to control behavior and the continuation of the said behavior despite the subject being aware of its negative consequences. Over and beyond the significant public health issue, this topic directly concerns the world of work. Surprisingly, it remains taboo or is only approached from a moralizing angle. Should a company be the source of such behaviors or only one of the places where they are exhibited, it cannot ignore the issue. Although employers may sometimes see secondary benefits of some addictive behavior for productivity reasons (e.g. « workaholism »), this may result in a loss of efficiency of their workforce (absenteeism, accidents in the workplace, drop in productivity). Employers may be held criminally liable in the event of illicit substances being brought into the workplace. What is more, being liable for any damage or injuries caused by their employees, they must make sure they do not represent a threat to others. Last, but not least, employers are responsible for the health of their employees. This objective has been considerably strengthened by the definition of the employer's safety obligation, by the Court of cassation, as an obligation of safety performance. In order to fulfil these obligations, employers have various control measures at their disposal and enjoy dual powers of repression and prevention. However, any action taken by the employer in the field of addiction comes up against the inalienable right to individual freedom of the employees. An employer is not omnipotent: where is the limit between the management of addictive risks in the workplace and an employee's privacy, taking into account an employer's obligation of safety performance. ; Les pratiques addictives aux substances psychoactives sont caractérisées par une dépendance révélée par l'impossibilité répétée de contrôler un comportement et la poursuite de ce comportement en dépit de la connaissance des conséquences négatives. Au-delà du problème considérable de santé publique, la question intéresse directement le monde du travail. Curieusement, le sujet reste un tabou, ou alors, n'est abordé que sous un angle moralisateur. Qu'elle soit à l'origine de ces conduites ou uniquement un des lieux d'expression des problèmes en découlant, l'entreprise ne peut plus faire l'impasse sur cette question. Si l'employeur, tenu à des impératifs de production, peut, parfois, tirer des bénéfices secondaires de certaines conduites addictives (« boulimies » au travail), cela peut avoir un impact négatif sur l'efficacité de sa structure (absences, accidents, baisse de productivité …). L'employeur peut également être tenu responsable pénalement dans les cas d'introduction de substances illicites dans l'entreprise. Au surplus, étant responsable des dommages causés par ses salariés, il devra s'assurer que ces derniers ne représentent pas un danger pour les tiers. Enfin, et peut être surtout, l'employeur est responsable de la santé de ses salariés. La consécration prétorienne d'une obligation de sécurité de résultat a d'ailleurs considérablement renforcé l'intensité de cet objectif. Afin de remplir ses obligations, l'employeur dispose de différentes mesures de contrôle, et jouit d'un double pouvoir de répression et de prévention en la matière. Mais les actions de l'employeur dans le domaine des addictions viennent se heurter à l'inaliénable liberté individuelle des salariés. Il est alors nécessaire de savoir jusqu'où la politique de prévention des entreprises du risque addictif en milieu de travail peut-elle aller sans interférer dans la vie privée des salariés.

Currently, more people than ever are migrating globally as a result of issues such as the search for economic resources, negative effects of environmental degradation, and displacement due to political conflicts. Considering that the mass movement of peoples is continuing at a strong pace, it is evident that immigration and its regulation by the state are major issues to be faced the 21st century. While there are multiple sites within the public domain in which the state and immigrant communities may interact, schools provided an ideal environment to investigate this relationship in Argentina due to the state-mandated enrollment of all children. Consequently, many immigrants had at least some contact with the state through educational institutions, as a substantial portion, such as Bolivian, Peruvian, and Paraguayan (i.e., Latin American) immigrants in Buenos Aires, often relocated with their children. Given the increasing heterogeneity of student populations around the world as a result of immigration, public schools occupy increasingly conflicting roles; while there is potential for formal education to serve as a means for attaining social and economic mobility, public schools also have been heavily criticized for reproducing inequities within society. This unique position of schools makes them especially salient in the experiences of nondominant immigrant populations, and therefore this study utilized the reception of Latin American immigrant populations in the public education system of Buenos Aires as a window into examining the treatment of nondominant immigrant populations by state institutions. Taking special consideration of the impacts of the intersection of race, class, and culture in the reception of such populations, this research was carried out as a 15-month ethnographic, comparative study of two public primary schools in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 2014-2016. Methods included participant observation within the schools, semi-structured interviews with 13 school personnel, and photo-elicitation interviews with 48 5th grade students. Findings from this study suggested that despite outward promotions of equality and the recognition of diversity, deeply-rooted biases and notions of the superiority of whiteness dominated the interactions between public schools in Buenos Aires and Latin American immigrant communities, reflecting the treatment of Latin American immigrants throughout Argentine society. Overall, problematic perceptions of Latin American immigrant students and families circulated among school personnel, negatively impacting their approaches to working with such populations. Nonetheless, there was also a small yet determined group of school personnel engaged in critical education working to improve the educational experiences of Latin American immigrant students and families. Ultimately, however, formal and informal policies upheld by the schools systematically positioned Latin American immigrant students and families as outsiders within the school system, leaving them at a disadvantage in their pursuit of an equitable educational experience. These findings indicated that in addition to examinations of formal policy, there is a need for investigations of the implementation of such policies and other informal policies that shape the day-to-day happenings within schools and other public institutions. This is vital as they relate to the promotion of the equitable treatment of nondominant populations by the state, as this study indicated that superficial multicultural policies alone were insufficient at combating biases among the dominant population and dismantling institutionalized discrimination. Findings from this study also suggested a continued need for the examination of race and whiteness in Latin American contexts.

International audience ; The emergence of the ''Open Access'' (OA) movement and OA repositories has upset (and still upsets) the economy and access to scientific publications. The aim of this article is to actualize and complement the results of previous studies that have attempted to quantify the importance of OA in the field of biology/medicine, through a focus on the PubMed bibliographic database. An analysis of OA publications in PubMed, based on the geographical localization of authors, was also conducted (countries and continents) and some parameters related to OA (evolution of the OA journals, the number of mandates and OA repositories established by countries and continents) have also been studied. The results show that thepercentages of articles available in OA are still growing and reach 39.1% of articles available in the PubMed database in 2015. The geographical analysis of the 25 most productive countries and continents shows a great variability in the percentage of articles in OA (from 21.9% for Italy to 42.08% for the USA and from 22.80% for Oceania to 40.84% for North America). Furthermore, our results show that the number of mandates and OA repositories is not significantly correlated with the percentage of articles in OA at the national and continental levels, confirming that the public policies or mandates in OA have had an influence below expectations. The establishment of more coercive mandates may succeed in obtaining more significant effects in the medium or long-term. The steady increase of the number of OA journals, with the acknowledged growth of the number of citations of articles in OA, will certainly boost the attractiveness of the authors for the OA ; L'apparition du mouvement « open access » (libre accès, LA) et des archives ouvertes a bouleversé (et bouleverse encore) l'économie et l'accès aux publications scientifiques. The reform of ethics reviews for large, multi-centre, research projects in health (clinical trials, genomics, health services research, epidemiology) does not affect the delivery, funding, or financing of health care services directly. It could therefore be said to be outside the scope of a journal documenting, analyzing, and comparing reforms taking place in the health care system. However, changing the rules according to which health research is conducted affects a small but influential group of stakeholders in health care decision-making, including health care professionals, health services analysts and academic health researchers involved in large collaborative empirical projects. It also affects patients enrolled in the research, again, a small but potentially important group of patients, those patients who can benefit from cutting edge research. Last, changing the environment in which health research operates in a jurisdiction is expected to have an effect on the diffusion of innovation in that jurisdiction's health care system. We acknowledge that such a relationship is not easy to establish empirically, but it is certainly the case that governments investing in research in health hope to make their health care system (through their health care professionals and health services analysts, but also the general public) more receptive to and adept at adopting innovations in the field of health care. In that sense, we believe that reforms of the conditions under which health research is conducted falls within the scope of this journal. À ce titre, une telle réforme pourrait être considérée hors du champ d'un journal de documentation, d'analyse et de comparaison des reformes du système de santé. Pourtant, changer les règles selon lesquelles la recherche en santé est conduite affecte un groupe restreint mais influent de professionnels de la santé et d'analystes des services de santé, à savoir les universitaires impliqués dans les projets empiriques d'envergure; cela affecte aussi un groupe, là encore restreint mais potentiellement important, de patients, ceux pouvant bénéficier de la recherche de pointe. Enfin, en changeant l'environnement dans lequel se déroule la recherche en santé dans leur ressort administratif, les gouvernements espèrent influencer la diffusion de l'innovation dans leur système de santé. Bien sûr, une telle relation de cause à effet est difficile à établir empiriquement, mais il est certain que les gouvernements qui investissent dans la recherche en santé espèrent rendre leur système de santé (à travers les professionnels et les analystes des services de santé, mais aussi le grand public) plus réceptif, et plus apte à adopter les innovations dans le domaine de la santé. C'est en ce sens que nous pensons que les réformes des conditions dans lesquelles se pratique la recherche en santé entre dans le champ de ce journal. Corporations face pressure from governments, civil society groups and consumers to respond to social problems in their operating environments or to improve the sustainability characteristics of their products, services and supply chains. Companies respond to these problems in order to gain legitimacy with these stakeholders while entrepreneurs develop new products/services to take advantage of opportunities to address these social problems through market mechanisms. In this dissertation, I examine two forms of corporate responses to social issues: social entrepreneurship and corporate social action (CSA). Specifically, I aim to theorise the emergence of social entrepreneurship and explicate the implementation and management of CSA in a multinational enterprise (MNE). In addition, I aim to contribute to the practice of organisational ethnography by proposing techniques that researchers may employ to compensate for the limits of traditional interviewing and participant observation in the study of rapidly changing organisations. The three studies in this dissertation advance scholarship in entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and organisational ethnography. In the first study, I conduct a 15-month study of Amsterdam-based social venture, Fairphone. I argue that effectual entrepreneurial agency is co-constituted by distributed agency, the proactive conferral of material resources and legitimacy to an eventual entrepreneur by actors external to the new venture. I show how, in the context of social movement activism, an effectual network pre-committed resources to an inchoate social enterprise to produce a material artifact because it embodied the moral values of network members. I develop a model of enterprise emergence based on these findings and theorise the role of material artifacts in effectuation. I suggest that a material artifact served as a boundary object, present in multiple social words and triggering commitment from actors not governed by hierarchical arrangements. In the second study, I investigate the implementation of corporate social actions (CSA) and public justifications of those actions by a Chinese MNE operating in Kenya. I show how a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme that is developed in one country to acquiesce to local institutional demands is discursively justified by another subunit of the MNE to constituents geographically removed from the site of those practices. I suggest that the paradox approach to legitimacy management by social action—an approach that has been theorised but not empirically examined—may not lead to inherent conflict as assumed in the literature if the MNE's cost of acquiescence in one domain is low and institutional pressure in another weak. In the third study, I investigate the limits of traditional data collection techniques in the ethnography of modern organisations and examine how organisational ethnographers may employ self-documenting practices in these organisations to produce compelling accounts of organisational life. I argue that modern organisations produce voluminous amounts of documentary records and digital data that organisational researchers can exploit to increase the validity of ethnographic studies and produce compelling portraits of modern organisational life. I illustrate my argument by drawing on my 15-month long study of Fairphone. I suggest that by combining analyses of multiple forms of interactions, researchers of modern organisations can expand the notion of the ethnographic field, which has historically being conceived as a bounded, physical space in which social interactions occur, to include the virtual spaces comprising digitally-mediated interactions that characterise modern organisational life.

We quantified biomass and nutrient accumulation of Acacia dealbata Link and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. planted at stem densities of 5000 and 15000 ha(-1) in a bioenergy plantation in Chile. We tested the hypotheses that species and stocking will not affect biomass or nutrient accumulation. Species and stocking did not affect biomass accumulation after five years; however, species and stocking did influence nutrient mass. A. dealbata had higher nitrogen mass than E. globulus for total (397 kg ha(-1) more, i.e., 126% higher), foliage (188 kg ha(-1), 218%), branch (55 kg ha(-1), 95%), stem (120 kg ha(-1), 86%), and root (34 kg ha (-1), 109%) components, likely because A. dealbata fixes nitrogen. A. dealbata had lower calcium mass than E. globulus for branch (111 kg ha(-1), 60%) and stem (69 kg ha(-1), 39%) components. Root nitrogen and phosphorus masses and foliage, branch and root boron masses were significantly lower with a stocking density of 5000 ha(-1). Low stocking produced the same amount of total biomass as high stocking for both species and would be less expensive to plant. A. dealbata had higher nitrogen mass and likely increased soil nitrogen. E. globulus had high calcium mass in the stem and branches; off-site losses could be mitigated with stem-only harvests and debarking of stems in the field. Given the rainfall patterns and water availability constraints in Chile, additional criteria including water use efficiency would be required to determine the best species for bioenergy plantations in Chile. The article presents the life and scientific path of the outstanding Russian physiologist Ivan Mikhailovich Sechenov (1829-1905), who first described the concept of neurophysiology of central inhibition in animals and in the human body. Later, his followers expanded the teaching of central inhibition, studying this process not only in frogs, but also in mammals. Abroad I. Sechenov is better known for his contribution to physiological psychology. In Russia he is called the "father of Russian physiology" due to his scientific achievements in the field of neurophysiology and other aspects of physiology. The scientist's path to medical school ran through training at the engineering college in 1843-1848, and later I. Sechenov worked as a military engineer. So far, I. Sechenov's experiments and the main theses of his theory about the physiology of mental activity remain relevant. ; L'article présente la vie et le parcours scientifique de l'éminent physiologiste russe Ivan Mikhailovich Sechenov (1829-1905), qui a décrit pour la première fois le concept de neurophysiologie de l'inhibition centrale chez les animaux et dans le corps humain. Avec les sociétés de la connaissance, le rôle des savoirs experts s'est renforcé dans tous les domaines de la vie sociale. Quand ils touchent les processus délibératifs et la décision politique, leur rôle questionne la qualité et la nature des dispositifs démocratiques contemporains, compte tenu de l'éloignement de la citoyenneté qu'ils produisent dans les affaires publiques. La demande pour une démocratisation de la science a été l'une des réponses les plus fréquentes proposées à ce problème dans les études sur les sciences et technologies depuis le début du 21e siècle. Cet article suggère qu'il s'agit toujours d'un défi actuel et que cela a à voir essentiellement avec le fait qu'il a été abordé à partir de conceptions de la science et du politique qui en faisaient un objectif difficilement atteignable, voire impossible. Considérant toutefois que sa pertinence n'a pas cessé d'être avérée, l'article formule quelques suggestions quant à ce que pourraient être les questions et les thèmes à traiter pour que la démocratisation du projet scientifique devienne un projet sensé pour notre discipline ; Con las sociedades del conocimiento, se ha ido consolidando el papel cada vez más importante del conocimiento experto en todas las esferas de la vida social. Cuando ello ha alcanzado a los procesos deliberativos y de toma de decisiones políticas, ha llegado a poner en cuestión la calidad y la naturaleza de los dispositivos democráticos contemporáneos, dado el alejamiento que produce de la ciudadanía respecto de los asuntos públicos. La demanda de una democratización de la ciencia ha sido una de las respuestas más recurrentes de las que se han dado a ese problema desde de los estudios de la ciencia y la tecnología a lo largo del siglo XXI. En este artículo se plantea que se trata aún de un reto pendiente y que ello tiene que ver, esencialmente, con el hecho de haberse abordado desde concepciones de la ciencia y la política que hacían de él un logro difícilmente -si acaso posible- alcanzable. Considerando que, no obstante, su pertinencia no ha dejado de tener vigencia, se plantean, asimismo, algunas sugerencias acerca de cuáles podrían ser los asuntos y temáticas que deberían abordarse para hacer de la democratización de la ciencia un proyecto con pleno sentido para nuestra disciplina ; With knowledge societies, the role of expert knowledge has grown to cover all areas of social life. When it affects deliberative processes and political decision-making, this role questions the quality and nature of contemporary democratic systems owing to the distance it sets up between citizenship and public matters. The demand for a democratisation of science has been one of the most frequently proposed responses to this problem in science and technology studies since the start of the 21st century. This challenge is still on-going, mainly due to the fact that it has been addressed through conceptions of science and politics that have turned it into a difficult-to-achieve if not impossible objective. While recognising that the relevance of this challenge has never been doubted, this article puts forward a number of suggestions as to what topics and questions might be dealt with for this project to democratise science to make sense for our discipline

The maritime and land trade of the City of Ragusa (Dubrovnik) and its surroundings has always been "the corner stone" on which the grandeur of Dubrovnik, its political and economical power and culture were built. As early as 1441, the Dubrovnik trade was considered to consist of 3/4 of the maritime and only 1/4 of the land based trade. In 1181, the comunitas ragusina - the Commune of Ragusa was mentioned for the first time; as the time went by, it became the City-state. It was named The Ragusan Republic in 1430. The treaty concluded with Turkey in 1442 was in force up to the twilight of the Dubrovnik Republic (1806). It was convenient for Ragusans to have a sole ruler and a single state in their neighbourhood, not to mention how stubborn and quite often wanton ones. In his work "Mari, Gol , Isole,." (1688.), Vincenzo Coronelli, the mapmaker, said about the Ragusans: ".They are the most ardent defenders of their freedom, putting in a great deal of effort to secure it, and at the same time, hating any kind of slavery.". The Ragusan vessels were attacked by the pirates from Rhodes from 1507-1509 and later on. The main reason for flourishing of Ragusan shipping and trade was based upon focussing on their public life within these domains. The Ragusan Republic depended upon its investments into maritime affairs and assistance offered through stimulations, interaction of processes and consequential strengthening of its own prosperity (its enriched citizens). The Ragusan Maritime Insurance Law (Ordo super assecuratoribus) of March 5th, 1568 is the oldest enacted law in the world, and in this way it was more than a century older than legal regulations on the maritime insurance - Ordonnance de la marine of 1681. Apart from the main shipyard in the old City port (in portu interiori Ragusii, in portu Ragusii), up to the construction of the new shipyard in Gruž (1526) there were shipyards in Ston and in the nearby islands of Lopud, Šipan (in Suđurađ) and Koločep (Kalamota) already in the 14th century. Palladius Fuscus (1450-1520), in his work De situ orae Illyrici (published posthumously in 1540) cited that "there was no such a secluded part of Europe or one so inaccessible to the newcomers, where you would not encounter Ragusans practicing their merchant activity". According to some researchers, Ragusa was the third strongest force in the Mediterranean (after Genoa and Venice) in the 14th century. The Ragusan Republic was the first in the Mediterranean in the 16th century and, in terms of their trading ocean-going sailing vessels under Ragusan and foreign flags, it was the third in the world (after Spain and the Netherlands). In his work Nautica Mediterranea (Rome, 1602, pp. 4-5), Bartolomeo Crescentio said: ".among experts and master craftsmen for galleons are the most numerous, and the most capable in this (the Mediterranean Sea, observation of the author) are Ragusans", and Pantero Pantera in his work L'Armata Navale (Rome, 1614, p. 66) wrote down: ".while for navas and galleons building, masters of Dubrovnik, Portugal and England were highly esteemed"."Argosy", in fact, means "a Ragusan ship". Many endeavours and achievements in the art of shipbuilding raise the East Adriatic coast above the West one, since it had most frequently been a successful way in which ships and men reached di erent parts of the world.

In this work, the knowledge problem is approached under Lipovetsky (2013) viewpoint. Looking for a world citizen with self-domain for a global fight, and whose production will be functional to the world; maximizing its potentials, adapted to the body conquer, reason, and futurity spirit. An ethical citizen against acting in its context. On this way, research is directed and projected to the center of knowledge and application of a possible citizen sensitive about itself and the world around it. A citizen that thinks and interacts with its surrounding; effecting and interests on changes, with transforming conceptions regarding its own habitat on peace conversation times; in response to a political subject co-responsible to its era and its own conflicts. Within the research process, five categories are presented which guide an instrument construction that was used in order to get data; through which a reflection was done about the citizen role in the academic fields. Among the measured topics, the cognitive area is presented as well as the emotional and self-care one; inside an individual and social focus. Concerning, the comprehensive view, it was evaluated throughout the cohabitation and peace perspective, besides the citizen practices as elements that evidenced the representation about these configurations. The purpose of this work was to understand some citizen practices in younger population groups who attended to exact and human sciences classrooms, in a public university in Armenia, Quindío where the research took place. ; En esta obra se aborda el problema de conocimiento desde la visión de Lipovetsky (2013), en la búsqueda de un ciudadano con dominio de sí para una lucha global, y en cuya producción sea un individuo útil al mundo, maximizador de sus potencialidades, adaptado a la conquista del cuerpo, la razón y el espíritu del porvenir. Un ciudadano ético frente a la actuación en su contexto. De esta forma, la investigación se dirige y proyecta hacia el eje de crecimiento y aplicación de un posible ciudadano sensible de sí y de su mundo. Un ciudadano que piense e interactúe sobre su entorno, con afectación e intereses de cambio, con concepciones de transformación de su propio hábitat en tiempos de diálogos de paz, en respuesta a un sujeto político corresponsal en su época y de sus propios conflictos. Dentro del proceso investigativo se presentan cinco categorías que sirven de guía para la construcción de un instrumento que se empleó para la obtención de datos, con el cuales se pudo realizar una reflexión del papel de la ciudadanía en los ámbitos académicos. Entre los temas medidos se encuentra el área cognitiva, emocional y cuidado de sí, dentro de un enfoque individual como social. En lo referente a una mirada de conjunto, se evaluó desde la perspectiva de convivencia y paz además de las prácticas ciudadanas como elementos que permitieron evidenciar la representación que se tiene de esas configuraciones. In this second stage of the investigation on Rhetoric and Politics, after having debated on the relation between both domains presents in contemporary authors, such as as Ernesto Laclau, Giorgio Agamben, Roberto Espósito, Jacques Derrida, we try to delimit some specific figures as they are considered in the New rhetoric and theory of the argumentation, to establish the relation between them and its appearance in the public political space. The relevancy of this perspective is corroborated from diverse analyses that extend the public space of citizenship, breaking with the stylistic isotopic and inaugurating polyphonic spaces of statement. We study the development of certain figures in the classic rhetoric and its topological transformation into the new enunciated perspectives. 1-Metaphor and Metonymy or the desire'seconomy. 2- Ellipses or subjective silencing. 3-Repetition or appearance - disappearance into the space public. 4-Oxymoron or the esquizia of the sight. 5-Catacresis or the invention of politics. 6-Sinécdoque or the drama of the representation. And also, it worked on the heuristic value of certain significant that might operate as rhetorical figures or as tropes in a more broad sense: Carnival (term taken of the vocabulary of M. Bajtin), the pogo, the corner, in the popular juvenile music, the world of the reverse in the Latin America neo-baroque literature and the silence in the historical and political essay. It has been proving the efficiency of using these notions in diverse discursive fields: narrative, philosophical, poetical, in order to verify its relevancy regarding to the opening or closing of the public political space in terms of capacity of appearance by means of theword. ; En esta segunda etapa de la investigación sobre retórica y política, luego de haber debatido sobre la relación entre ambos dominios presentes en autores contemporáneos tales como Ernesto Laclau, Giorgio Agamben, Roberto Espósito y Jacques Derrida; intentamos delimitar algunas figuras específicas tal como se las considera en la nueva retórica y teoría de la argumentación. Nuestro objetivo es establecer la relación entre ellas y su aparición en el espacio público político. La pertinencia de esta perspectiva se corrobora a partir de diversos análisis que amplían el espacio público de ciudadanía, rompiendo con la isotopía estilística e inaugurando espacios de enunciación polifónicos. Así, estudiamos el devenir de ciertas figuras en las retóricas clásicas y su transformación topológica en las nuevas perspectivas enunciadas: 1-metáfora y metonimia o la economía del deseo; 2-elipsis o el silenciamiento subjetivo; 3-repetición o la aparición-desaparición en el espacio público;4-oxímoron o la esquizia de la mirada; 5-catacresis o la invención de lo político; 6-sinécdoqueo el drama de la representación. Por añadidura, se trabajó sobre el valor heurístico de ciertos significantes que podrían operar como figuras retóricas o como tropos en un sentido más lato: el carnaval (término tomado del vocabulario de M. Bajtin), el pogo, la esquina en la música popular juvenil, el mundo del revés en la literatura neobarroca latinoamericana, y el silencio en el ensayismo histórico y político. Se está probando la eficacia teórica del uso de estas nociones en diversos campos discursivos como el narrativo, filosófico y poético para comprobar su pertinencia en relación a la apertura o cierre del espacio público político, en términos de capacidad de aparición por medio de la palabra.
