The purpose of this study is to set up an integrated elementary social studies and science program; informal, flexible, and democratic enough to be in keeping with the modern trends of education, and thus broaden the pupils' understanding so that satisfactory adjustments to their environment may be made. Statement of the Problem 1. How can social studies and elementary science be integrated so as to meet individual needs and promote better human relationship? 2. Should social studies and elementary science be integrated in the curriculum as a means of helping children develop perspectives relative to science as a social force in the modern world? 3. Will integrated social studies and elementary science programs help develop harmonious human relations and reinforce bonds of family life? Data for this study were secured from questionnaires sent to seventy-five teachers of urban, and rural areas to find methods of presenting the social studies and elementary science in the elementary school curriculum. In addition, periodicals, books, and teacher's manuels or bulletins served as guides to seek trends in procedures for teaching social studies and science in the elementary school.

El artículo presenta un panorama de la producción científica de las ciencias sociales sobre el Perú. Recoge los aportes de los pensadores peruanos representativos de su época y generación así como de los académicos vinculados a la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, cultores de disciplinas como la Antropología, la Arqueología, la Historia y la Sociología; comprometidos con el quehacer científico orientado a la transformación de la sociedad peruana. Asimismo, presenta los temas y propuestas de los estudiosos de nuestra realidad, cambiante y compleja, tales como el origen de la cultura peruana, la recuperación y puesta en valor de los sitios arqueológicos, el indigenismo, la otredad, el nosotros diverso, la historia de las élites y las mentalidades, el equilibrio social, la revolución, la democracia liberal así como el neoliberalismo y la globalización, con sus referentes teóricos. ; The article presents an overview of the Scientific Production in Social Sciences about Peru. From the pre-Hispanic period to the current times; it collects the contributions of emblematic Peruvian thinkers of their age and generation as well as the academics who were linked to the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. They were practitioners of disciplines such as anthropology, archeology, history and Sociology; and were committed to the scientific task oriented to the transformation of the Peruvian society. The matters and proposals of the scholars of our so changing and complex reality are exhibited: the origin of the Peruvian culture, the recovery and the value of the archaeological sites, the Indigenism, the otherness, the our diverse, the history of elites and mentalities, the social equilibrium, the revolution, the liberal democracy as well as the neoliberalism; and the globalization with its theoretical references.

Recent scholarship has broadened definitions of war and shifted from the narrow focus on battles and power struggles to include narratives of the homefront and private sphere. To expand scholarship on textual representations of war means to shed light on the multiple theaters of war, and on the many voices who contributed to, were affected by, and/or critiqued German war efforts. Engaged women writers and artists commented on their nations' imperial and colonial ambitions and the events of the tumultuous beginning of the twentieth century. In an interdisciplinary investigation, this volume explores select female-authored, German-language texts focusing on German colonial wars and World War I and the discourses that promoted or critiqued their premises. They examine how colonial conflicts contributed to a persistent atmosphere of Kriegsbegeisterung (war enthusiasm) that eventually culminated in the outbreak of World War I, or a Kriegskritik (criticism of war) that resisted it. The span from German colonialism to World War I brings these explosive periods into relief and challenges readers to think about the intersection of nationalism, violence and gender and about the historical continuities and disruptions that shape such events.
