This study involves a content analysis of Greek educational legislation as well as of the social studies curriculum and textbooks in Greece. The purpose of the study is to determine if global themes and supranational elements are contained in these materials and to what degree they translate into teachable knowledge. The analysis revealed that the above dimensions are, to some degree, evident, but they have not been adequately adapted to correspond to the pronouncements of the Greek educational establishment and to the new realities of the European and international space. The global dimensions found in these materials mainly address the geophysical aspects of the globe and to a lesser degree the human, political and socio-cultural issues and problems. It is recommended that Greece, as well as other nation states, undertake an in-depth examination of their curricula and textbooks, especially in the area of social studies, so that a balanced and globalised curriculum is developed. ; peer-reviewed

American historians who have studied the Cold War have usually focused upon either the events on the international scene which gave rise to tensions or on the policies and rhetoric of national political leaders such as President Truman and Senator McCarthy. It is the thesis of this study that, while the role of national leaders in fostering America's Cold War consciousness cannot be ignored, in some ways the forging of that consciousness was affected only marginally by the President and other national political leaders. To anyone familiar with the course of American life during the 1960s, it must be obvious that a sturdy anticommunism bred of a Cold War mentality had a deep and lasting impact. Such a deep imprint could not have been left by the actions of political leaders alone; other American institutions must also have had a hand in its forging. With these assumptions behind it, this study began as a search for the origins of a "Cold War culture." It soon, however, evolved into an attempt to trace the interaction between the Cold War and one aspect of that culture--American education. It is hoped that by examining the patterns of interaction between the Cold War and American education and educators, this study will contribute to a fuller understanding of the grip of the Cold War upon American life.

EN: The main task of state regulation in the market of education services is to create the necessary conditions for the activities of higher education institutions. Higher education US and UK traditionally refer to the so-called liberal or market model, which is characterized by a high degree of decentralization of management and diversi cation of higher education systems. For example, in the United States, each state has an organization whose mission is to promote coordination and cooperation between higher education institutions. A distinctive feature of the North American Higher Education System, which operates in the United States, is the large variety of institutions of higher education, which has about 20 million students. The United States government policy is aimed at making elite colleges and universities in the United States the most prestigious in the world. An example of the best-performing American university in the world is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which is the most popular and most successful technological hub in the world, with a priority focus on the training of researchers (postgraduates). Thanks to the powerful nancial support of the state, the MIT has the best base of xed assets, the best equipment for research, thanks to which a lot of advanced technologies in the world have been developed in its walls. Similar tendencies are noted in the development of the British system of higher education, but it should be noted and some speci c features of the development of high school in Great Britain at the present stage. As the experience of developed countries shows with advanced higher education systems, in particular, the United States, success in the educational sphere can be achieved precisely due to well-considered state regulation, which manifests itself not in the bureaucratic control and thorough regulation of the activity of higher education, namely in the elaboration of the concept and strategic plan of the activity of higher education, as well as creating favorable conditions for the growth of the prestige of the country's higher education.
