The article presents an analysis of literature data and the results of our own retrospective studies of the characteristics of the menstrual cycle in female combatants who have undergone concussion. Clinical and anamnestic factors have been identified that negatively affect the menstrual function of women of reproductive age, who received contusions during hostilities. The relationship between the state of mental health of women and menstrual irregularities has been established. Aim: to identify and evaluate changes in the menstrual function of women - veterans of reproductive age. Also, to establish the relationship between menstrual irregularities in women - veterans of reproductive age who have undergone contusion, and the state of their somatic and mental health.Materials and method: The research was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductology of the National University of Health of Ukraine named after P.L. Shupika. To achieve this goal, a comprehensive clinical and laboratory examination was performed in 567 women of reproductive age (main group and comparison group) who participated in hostilities and suffered contusions, the average age of the subjects was 27.08 ± 4.23 years.The period of stay in the combat zone is 29.34 ± 9.21 months, the time from the moment of receiving a mild traumatic brain injury (contusion) is 18.8 ± 9.2 months. Group I - 399 fertile women who suffered contusions during the fighting with PKS. Group II - 168 women of childbearing age who suffered contusions during hostilities without PKS (mean age 32.21 ± 7.32 years).Results: The results of the studies revealed statistically significant deviations in the characteristics of the menstrual cycle of women who participated in hostilities who were injured with PKS, compared with women without PKS. Promoting gender equality and women empowerment is a long standing item on the development agenda nationally and internationally. It is also item number five of the 2030 millennium development goals; gender equality, ending all discrimination against women and girls is not only a basic right but a human right. Research has proven that empowering women and girls helps economic growth and development. Empowering women is necessary for women's enhancement in society and the workplace, the military is no exception. This paper argues on the gender mainstreaming policies in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and whether they are adequately implemented to ensure equal representation of women in all military ranks including combat. The researchers used Liberal Feminist Theory (LFT), which advocates for women's right to be seen and acknowledged as human rights. The researchers employed a feminist qualitative research methodology and exploratory design. Snowballing sampling technique was used to select participants in the SANDF military air-force base in Hoedspruit, Limpopo and saturation was reached after the fifteenth participant for in-depth interviews. Data was analysed using Thematic Analysis (TA). Findings in the study revealed that women in the military are of the view that the military is making strides in ensuring an equal representation between men and women, however women view themselves as less represented than their male counterparts, regardless of the policies put in place. Results also revealed that that the lack of representation of women in the military is due to the SANDF not being meant for women. The paper therefore concludes that women are not equally represented to their male counterparts in the military and that there is need for improvement towards this in senior and management positions within the SANDF. The study recommends that the SANDF as a government institution could also create a sense of urgency to all the units in the quest to ensure equal representation of women. Creating a sense of urgency not only will ensure that more women can be part of the military, but will also create an awareness of the necessity for women to join the army.

This paper presents the result of partial research that investigates how the colonial heritages present in Brazilian History and their structural reverberations impact the region context of feminicide in the State of Minas Gerais, outlining a Brazilian reality. Considering the existence of concrete difficulties to hear women who suffer feminicide attempts, based on the memorialistic narratives of women who suffered feminicide attempts, such as the lack of security due to death threats to which they are subjected, this sample counts with a number of fifteen women heard in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, appointed by a non-governmental organization that operates in the region, on the combat gender violence. As a data collection technique, it has been chosen the memorialistics narratives because they allow us a more careful way to approach traumatic scenes. In this article, specific, it was analyzed the cases of four of these women with the aim of demonstrate, through the interface between Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis and decolonial thinkers, that studies the Afro-Latin American feminism, how violence against these women reveals in their bodies (sometimes, Black) the emergence of a territory to be invade, explored, dominated, and annihilated. It is expected to demonstrate, in the cases presented and through the chosen methodology, the effects of the State´s transgeneratinality and impunity on the naturalization of violence and domination.

How does corruption adopt gendered guises and how do women combat it in practice? Theorizing from the basis of a 30-month ethnography within a women's non-governmental organization (NGO), the article proposes gaslighting as a way of interpreting gendered corruption, owing to its elusive but pernicious nature. Gaslighting is posited as the deployment of tactics to make women doubt their sanity and as a means of securing personal advantage. Gaslighting triggers embodied forms of struggle, and the article offers the notion of dispelling as denoting the persistent, patient and reiterative counter-practice of NGO practitioners to assert democratic norms of liberty and equality. The article provides rich empirical insight both into how corruption is enacted through the citing of patriarchal norms and how such norms are contested through the bodies of practitioners. These insights are important at a time when governments globally claim gender equality while undermining it in practice.

The Nordic welfare states offer some lessons in a development context. A main achievement has been sustainable poverty reduction. Another important lesson is that, while democratization often leads to greater pressures for social policy expansion, social policy can also contribute to democratization. The Nordic countries further demonstrate that is possible to unify social protection with a competitive and growth‐oriented economy. In a number of policy areas, particularly in relation to social services and labor market policy, the Nordic countries have also become leading modernizers. The women‐friendly dual‐earner model not only combats poverty among families with children, but also enables women to participate in the labor market. The future sustainability of the Nordic model of social policy hinges on the number of taxpayers that can be mobilized. In order to be successful in this, governments need to take a combined, or holistic, approach, and consider both micro motives and macro considerations.

One popular strategy of opposition to practices of female genital cutting (FCG) is rooted in the global feminist movement. Arguing that women's rights are human rights, global feminists contend that practices of FGC are a culturally specific manifestation of gender-based oppression that violates a number of rights. Many African feminists resist a women's rights approach. They argue that by focusing on gender as the primary axis of oppression affecting the African communities where FGC occurs, a women's rights approach has misrepresented African women as passive victims who need to be rescued from African men and has obscured the role of certain international institutions that have perpetuated the oppression of African women. In this paper, I defend these critiques by arguing that the use of a women's rights framework to combat practices of female genital cutting among African communities has often been practically ineffective and morally inappropriate. Socioeconomic data gathered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 280 right- & left-wing terrorists, active in the US 1960-1980, are used for profiling the US terrorist, arguing that understanding the characteristics that drew individuals to terrorism in the past might help law enforcement officials anticipate & combat future terrorism. The data are tabulated holding variables of political (Left/Right) bent, position in organization, & gender constant in consideration of the variables of race, religion, education, occupation, income, & parents' occupation/income. Results suggest a clear socioeconomic distinction between the groups. The right-wing terrorist is typically middle- or lower-class white male, with relatively low education & income level, although right-wing leaders are of higher education & income levels. Left-wing terrorists may be middle- or upper-class males or females of diverse ethnicity & religion. This book examines the lasting impact of war on individuals and their communities in pre-modern Europe. Research on combat stress in the modern era regularly draws upon the past for inspiration and validation, but to date no single volume has effectively scrutinised the universal nature of combat stress and its associated modern diagnoses. Highlighting the methodological obstacles of using modern medical and psychological models to understand pre-modern experiences, this book challenges existing studies and presents innovative new directions for future research. With cutting-edge contributions from experts in history, classics and medical humanities, the collection has a broad chronological focus, covering periods from Archaic Greece (c. sixth and early fifth century BCE) to the British Civil Wars (seventeenth century CE). Topics range from the methodological, such as the dangers of retrospective diagnosis and the applicability of Moral Injury to the past, to the conventionally historical, examining how combat stress and post-traumatic stress disorder may or may not have manifested in different time periods. Owen Rees is Associate Lecturer in Ancient History at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK. An ancient Greek historian with a recognized expertise in the historiographical debate surrounding ancient post-traumatic stress disorder, he has published widely on ancient Greek socio-military history and the medical humanities. Kathryn Hurlock is Reader in Medieval History at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK. She is co-ordinator of the Returning Soldier Network, a collaborative network examining the figure of the returning soldier or veteran from the ancient world to the modern day. Kathryn has published widely on the crusades, including two monographs on aspects of British crusading. Jason Crowley is Senior Lecturer in Ancient History at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, where he specializes in the psychology of combat and combat motivations. As a comparative historian, he works with theories and evidence generated by the experience of modern warfare, but his main focus is on the citizens of Classical Athens who served as hoplites, heavy-infantrymen, during the wars of the fifth and fourth centuries BC.

Violence in the home is a major scourge in the society that needs unique attention to combat. There is a general saying that "a happy mind gives strength to the whole body" which means a happy woman makes a happy home, while a happy home makes a happy society. To this end, violence as a negative condition to the well-being of women is purely devastating to their happiness especially when it occurs within the home. This paper therefore explored survey design method technique in finding out the socio-cultural factors associated with home violence as experienced by women and its effects in Oye Ekiti, a town in Ekiti State of Nigeria. In a convenient sampling technique, data were collected from 200 married women who responded to questionnaire. Hypotheses were tested using chi-square. Results showed that factors such as level of education, religion belief and income were mostly among others not associated with violence in the home, which means there are more underlying factors to look out for. It was therefore recommended that government should incite stricter laws in addressing home violence cases family courts should also be put in place early warning systems to become aware of the consequences of ill-treatment of women at home. Also, religious organization should be more proactive in the teaching of morals towards curbing home violence.
