Examines the legacies of black female radicals to argue that feminism is neither inherently bourgeois nor incompatible with revolutionary politics. Black feminisms that emerged in the 1960s were intimately connected with historical antiracist struggles in the US, & black women have continued to shape feminist politics out of militant antiracist movements. Black feminism's goals of independence, community building, & resistance to racism/sexism focus on economic/political power rather than social service programs, thereby challenging the social tenets of law & order campaigns, as well as the corporate culture. The emergence of a multiracial sisterhood in the US is examined, maintaining that it blurs the lines between revolutionary, antirevolutionary, & counterrevolutionary, & has worked to marginalize the revolutionary exponent of black feminisms. The need for greater analysis of the ramifications of cross-ideological alliances between African & European American women is discussed, along with the struggle of progressive black feminisms to preserve radical politics in spite of internal conflicts & contradictions. 21 References. Feminism is sometimes seen either as multiple or singular as though we have to make a choice along ideological as well as philosophical lines. Feminism, I shall argue, is both multiple & singular, since "liberal," "socialist," & "radical" feminisms are distinctive feminisms that can & should be assessed according to the extent to which they contribute positively to the development of a postpatriarchal society. The same holds for the philosophically differentiated varieties of "feminist empiricism," standpoint, & postmodern theory. Each represent differing feminisms within a single body of argument unified by its commitment to the emancipation of women. It is important to distinguish here between the way in which particular theorists regard their endeavors & the practical implications of the positions taken. 19 References. ABSTRAKFemina" berarti memiliki sifat keperempuanan.

Women all around the world have been defying expectations for centuries, yet the fight for equal rights is far from over. Feminists have cracked the glass ceiling, but both men and women now and in the future will have to continue breaking boundaries to shatter it. Riveting examples of feminism will engage readers and teach them what it means to be a feminist, why it's so important, and the steps they can take to join the movement and make their voices heard.

Have we entered a historical moment of 'post-feminism'? This volume presents a timely and convincing 'no'. These essays demonstrate that there is a new generation of French women who take up questions of equality and difference from a position distinct from either first or second wave feminism, a position that often attempts to move beyond the binary of equality and/or difference to a new form of the individual. - ;Have we entered a historical moment of 'post-feminism'?
