Examining a range of approaches to education, Teaching Justice considers the challenges that exist in teaching about justice, drawing on extensive empirical data gathered amongst college lecturers and professors, as well as the author's own experience. Presenting extensive international research and insightful analyses, Teaching Justice will appeal to teachers and researchers with interests in social problems, education and educational methods, and criminal justice, as well as community engagement and service learning outside the classroom.

During the past decade, the most important large-scale effort to expand the decision-making and control capabilities of the Soviet economic management system has been the scientific-technical program for creating an integrated nationwide management information system. Formally designated as the Obshchegosudarstvennaia sistema sbora i obrabotki informatsii (dannykh) dlia ncheta, planirovaniia i upravleniia narodnym khosiaistvom (All-State System for the Collection and Processing of Information for Reporting, Planning, and Management of the National Economy), the system is more happily described by its acronym OGAS.1 It is an outgrowth of the rapid expansion of the systems approach (particularly its cybernetic expression) to the rationalization of management, and has developed into the technological variant of reform and an evident alternative and successor to the ill-fated economic reforms of 1965. As a system, OGAS has been projected as a solution to many of the fundamental economic, social, and organizational problems resulting from Soviet socioeconomic development.

Society's transition towards sustainability comes with radical change, which entails significant threats and opportunities for product development and manufacturing companies, for example related to new legislation, shifting customer preferences, and increasing raw material prices. Smart risk management therefore plays a key role for successfully maneuvering society's sustainability transition. However, from a company perspective, it remains challenging to connect the macro-level societal change with tangible risks for the business on the micro level. Based on interviews with academic and industrial experts, this study identified 21 key aspects for sustainability risk management. Drawing on these results and research from the areas of transition design, strategic sustainable development, and sustainability risk management, a conceptual approach for strategic risk management within the sustainability transition is presented. It builds on layered, double-flow scenario modelling in which backcasting from a vision, framed by basic principles for sustainability, is combined with forecasting from the present. The implications of such scenarios, i.e., risks, can then be identified and managed. By doing so on different scales, connections between macro- and micro-level change can be established. Thereby, product development companies shall be supported in making sustainability an intrinsic part of decision-making across the strategic, tactical, and operational levels to increase competitiveness while contributing to the transition towards a sustainable society. ; open access

Šobrīd Latvijā par vienu no aktuālākajām apspriešanas tēmām kļuvusi korupcija un kā tās sastāvdaļa kukuļņemšana. Korupcijas izplatību un dabu lielā mērā ietekmē konkrētās valsts vēsturiskā attīstība, tās sabiedrībā valdošās vērtības, tradīcijas, politiskā sistēma, sociāli ekonomiskās attīstības līmenis. Latvija pavisam nesen ir izgājusi sarežģītu pārejas periodu no totalitāras plānveida ekonomikas uz demokrātisku valsti brīva tirgus apstākļos. Arī korupcijas jomā šāda pāreja bija saistīta ar daudzām problēmām. Normatīvo aktu bāze bija izstrādes stadijā un pretkorupcijas politikas īstenošana visai neefektīva. Taču pēdējā laikā vērojams, ka Latvijā parādās tendence grozīt sabiedrības domas un arī normatīvus aktus, lai sekmīgāk cīnīties ar korupciju. Līdz ar to lielāku lomu sabiedrībā iegūst jaunās morālās vērtības, kuras apzinās korupcijas negatīvo lomu valsts attīstībā. Kukuļņemšanai pievērsta plaša uzmanība ne tikai valsts mēroga, bet arī starptautiskajā līmenī saistībā ar Latvijas iestāšanos Eiropas Savienībā un Šengenas zonā. Kukuļņemšana apdraud gan valsts ekonomisko, sociālo un tiesisko attīstību, gan ikviena tās iedzīvotāja tiesību un brīvību realizāciju, tādējādi mazinot sabiedrības lojalitāti pret valsti un ietekmējot valsts politisko stabilitāti. Kukuļņemšana ietekmē valsts pārvaldi, novājinot tās spējas kalpot sabiedrībai. Kukuļņemšanas rezultātā paplašinās "ēnu ekonomika", notiek politikas mērķu nomaiņa– no valsts vispārējās attīstības uz oligarhisku grupējumu valdīšanu, mazinās politiskā konkurence, kas traucē demokrātijas attīstībai, tiek grauti tirgus mehānismi, tiek kavēta līdztiesīga uzņēmējdarbība, potenciālie investori zaudē uzticību konkrētās valsts attīstībai. Līdz ar to valsts budžeta līdzekļi tiek izmantoti neefektīvi, palielinās un nostiprinās krasa sociālā nevienlīdzība, koruptīvo maksājumu dēļ pieaug cenas, pieaug inflācija, no kā cieš valsts un tās locekļi. Likumdošana ir viens no būtiskākajiem kukuļņemšanas novēršanas faktoriem, jo likumi un citi tiesiskie akti veido juridisku bāzi kukuļņemšanas apkarošanai. Likumdošanas akti, protams, tieši nespēs novērst korupcijas cēloņus un veicinošos apstākļus, taču normu efektīva izmantošana var lokalizēt kukuļņemšanas izpausmes, pārtraukt kukuļņemšanas realizācijas mehānismu un konkrētus kukuļņemšanas aktus, nodrošināt kukuļņemšanā iesaistīto personu saukšanu pie likumā paredzētās atbildības. Likumdošanas akti un to pielietošanas prakse veido iedzīvotāju tiesisko apziņu un līdz ar to iedarbojas kā bremzējošs vai arī veicinošs faktors noziedzīgā nodarījuma izdarīšanai. Kukuļņemšana ir visizplatītākā korupcijas forma, kura arī tiks pētīta šajā darbā. Minētā noziedzīga nodarījuma bīstamība slēpjas arī apstāklī, ka bieži tie ir cieši saistīti ar citiem noziedzīgiem nodarījumiem. Tiesas praksē bieži saskaras ar problēmām šāda noziedzīga nodarījuma kvalifikācijā. Ne reti ir gadījumi kad kukuļņemšanas noziedzīgais nodarījums veido noziedzīgo nodarījumu ideālo kopību ar citiem noziedzīgajiem nodarījumiem, kuru objekts ir valsts un pašvaldību institūciju, valsts dienesta normāla darbība. Tāpat pastāv vēl arī citas kukuļņemšanas kvalifikācijas problēmas, kuras tiks darba gaitā izanalizētas. Darba mērķis ir kukuļņemšanas jēdziena un krimināltiesisko aspektu izpēte, kvalifikācijas problēmu izpēte attiecībā uz doto noziedzīgo nodarījumu, iespējamo risinājumu sniegšana un ārvalstu kukuļņemšanas krimināltiesiskā regulējuma izpēte. Lai sasniegt mērķi, tika izvirzīti uzdevumi: 1.izpētīt kukuļņemšanas vēsturisko aspektu; 2.veikt kukuļņemšanas sastāva analīzi; 3.izpētīt kukuļņemšanas kvalifikācijas problēmas; 4.konstatēt problēmjautājumus un izvirzīt to risinājumus. Šā darba mērķa sasniegšanai pamatā tiks izmantotas analītiskā, salīdzinošā, indukcijas un prakses analīzes pētnieciskās metodes. Analītiskā metode izmantota, lai pētītu kukuļņemšanas noziedzīgā nodarījuma sastāvu. Salīdzinošā metode darbā izmantota, lai salīdzinātu svarīgākās atziņas kukuļņemšanas ; The theme of the master work is "The law criminal aspects of bribe taking". Corruption threatens economical, social and judicial development, as well as any realization of rights and liberties of inhabitants, thereby diminishing the loyalty of society to the state and affecting the political stability of country. The actuality of this work is connected with the necessity to discuss the how to fight against corruption in an affective way, which has appeared in Latvian society. The bribe taking is the most popular corruption form, it have been explored in this work. The aim of "The law criminal aspects bribe taking" work is to make an analysis of bribe taking problem, as well as to bring forward the possible solutions of problems. Author of the work makes a research history of bribe takings responsibility and analysis judicial qualification, paying attention to the court practice. In the work is analyzed the criminal law of bribe taking regulations of foreign countries. There are also analyzed the regulations of criminal codex of Russia, Germany, Austria, Estonia. For reaching the aim of work in general were used comparative, analytical, inductive and practical exploratory methods. Author analyzed the court practice in Latvia. In the summary of work are stated general theses, which appeared during the work, as well as were given proposions to improve the regulations criminal law of bribe taking.

The article contains a brief review of existing directions in social studies, emphasizing the role of social institutes, historical, cultural and communicative processes in formation of social representations about "the others", defined from the position of ethnicity or citizenship and assembled under the general name of constructivist paradigm. It is pointed out that the image of the "other" in individual and social consciousness represents a result of collective communicative activity, integrated in social reality by means of discourses, developed by elites - politicians and intellectuals and translated by educational systems and mass-media. The authors underline that the image of "other" constitutes an important component of individual world view, serving for the social identity construction and marking limits between in - and outgroups. Proximal structures of representations about "other" are built at the institutional level, while distal ones - at the group and individual level in the process on interpersonal or intergroup interaction and are changed by life experience and personal meanings and sense.DOI 10.14258/izvasu(2015)3.1-36 ; В статье представлен краткий обзор существующих направлений социальных исследований, подчеркивающих роль социальных институтов, историко-культурных и коммуникационных процессов в формировании социальных представлений о «других», определяемых с позиций этничности и гражданственности и объединенных под общим названием «конструктивистская парадигма». Отмечается, что существующий в индивидуальном и общественном сознании образ «другого» является результатом коллективной коммуникативной деятельности и интегрирован в социальную реальность посредством дискурсов, производимых элитами и транслируемых через систему образования и средства массовой коммуникации. Авторами подчеркивается, что в образе «другого» отражены результаты эволюции общества, а сам он является неотъемлемым компонентом картины мира, служащим для формирования социальной идентичности и маркировки границ между своей и чужой группой. Конструирование ядерных структур представлений о «другом» осуществляется на институциональном уровне, а периферических - на социально-групповом и индивидуальном уровнях в процессе межличностного и межгруппового взаимодействия, преломляемых сквозь жизненный опыт, индивидуальные значения и личностный смысл.DOI 10.14258/izvasu(2015)3.1-36
