En el siguiente artículo exponemos los resultados de una investigación que dio cuenta de los escenarios de participación política en los llanos del Yarí, una región habitada por campesinos de tradición comunista, con presencia histórica de las FARC y en donde el estado despliega desde 2003 la más grande estrategia contrainsurgente que se haya adelantado en la historia del país. Para tal efecto, nuestro foco de atención se orienta hacia la relación que existe entre las condiciones del ejercicio político (entendido como la construcción del sentido de lo político y la definición/participación en escenarios propios de la política) con la historia del proceso de apropiación territorial. Tal inspección nos ha permitido establecer que en esta región la plataforma de acción de la organización comunitaria, constituye tanto su plataforma político-social, como su escenario político-electoral, indagaremos más fondo sobre estas relaciones a partir de las narrativas de las experiencias campesinas, las condiciones sociales de la región y la aguda situación de guerra que allí viven.

This article examines the experiences of a range of faith groups in Wales drawn from 40 interviews with these groups and related organizations. The principal aim of the project from which the data are drawn was to study experiences of change within the religious sphere in Wales, most notably changes brought about by the process of devolution since 1999. The article has three main concerns. First, drawing on Casanova's idea of a 'public religion', we examine the public roles of faith groups, from the local level through to engagement with politicians in the National Assembly for Wales, and how, especially among Christian denominations, such roles are understood as of growing importance against a backdrop of declining church attendance. Second, we consider the attitudes of faith group representatives towards devolution and the Assembly, highlighting how to date Christian faith groups have been better placed to adapt to political change, for a variety of reasons. Leading on from this, we explore the factors that facilitate and limit engagement of faith groups with the Assembly.

Reflections on a trip through Israel focus on ethnic conflict. It is argued that Israel should be held to the same human rights standards as Western democracies. Many Israeli Jews are troubled by certain Israeli policies but will not openly criticize them. This "problematic solidarity" exacerbates difficulties by raising poor human rights policies to a "sacred" level. It is noted that a vocal radical minority abroad is currently calling for apartheid-like sanctions against Israel. Conversations with residents of many different political outlooks are drawn upon to point out the deep ideological divisions that exist among both Israelis & Palestinians. The mutual ethnic targeting that characterizes the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is examined, along with the disastrous consequences of mutual revenge; changes that the impasse will be broken; & the need for Palestinians to recapture the moral high ground. Consideration is given to the enormous impact of historical events on the conflict. This article reflects upon the ways television changed the political landscape and considers how far new media, such as the Internet, are displacing television or reconfiguring the political communications ecology. The analysis explores opportunities and challenges facing media producers, politicians, and citizens. The authors conclude by suggesting that the television-politics relationship that emerged in the 1960s still prevails to some extent in the digital era but faces new pressures that weaken the primacy of the broadcast-centered model of political communication. The authors identify five new features of political communication that present formidable challenges for media policy makers. They suggest that these are best addressed through an imaginative, democratic approach to nurturing the emancipatory potential of the new media ecology by carving out within it a trusted online space where the dispersed energies, self-articulations, and aspirations of citizens can be rehearsed, in public, within a process of ongoing feedback to the various levels and centers of governance.

Abstract. The article examines the social schisms existing in French society and the impact that these divisions had on the social climate and political processes in the country. The factors contributing to the formation of these imbalances are analyzed. It is shown that although the ruling circles have smoothed out the social consequences of numerous extraordinary events that took place during Macron's rule, they have not been able to mitigate the fundamental social divisions. The author comes to the conclusion that the abundance of deep social divisions in society leads to social instability, fragmentation of the political space and a significant increase in the influence of populist movements. Special attention is paid to the problems of increasing the degree of radicalism in the political arena and the degree of aggression and violence in society
