From a psychoanalytic point of view, presents a set of propositions concerning aspects of the relationship between psychoanalysis and firms. Considers, in particular, the domestication of speech, the nature of communication in the environment of the firm, and the relationship between the subject and the socius. Seeks to explain the possible role of phantasy in the context of the firm and employs this approach to examine the issue of employee absenteeism.

The main research question is: How do Slovenian employers assess the level of absenteeism in their companies and what measures do they take to control it? We collected the data for research in 155 Slovenian companies in 2019 by the use of a questionnaire (close- and open-ended questions) that was answered by the people responsible for staffing (human resource managers) or managers in small companies. In addition to questions for demographic data (region, activity, organisation's size, ownership), we also included variables with the following descriptive answers: The range of absenteeism in a company; The reasons for absenteeism in a company; Absenteeism management in a company; Actions for absenteeism management in a company. Absenteeism is not perceived as critical, but it is more often present among production workers. Various diseases are still the most common reason for absenteeism. The employees are mainly committed to work and do not take advantage of sick leave. The employers should establish systems for managing absenteeism within the companies. In this respect, the system should also consider how committed to work the worker is, how efficient is in using the elements of work and how qualitative is his output. On the basis of these findings, it would be advisable to prepare a research instrument with which we could identify what is happening in the field of absenteeism and which actions should be taken at the national, regional level or at the companies' level, especially in the period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Employee characteristics and attitudes of secondary school teachers were examined to determine if men and women had different reasons for being absent. Although women were found to perceive some work related factors different than men and to take substantially more days off than men, their absence occurrences were not significantly different. In addition, an employees's age and attitude toward pay were the only factors found to exhibit a gender-related impact on absenteeism. Perceived role conflict, and job involvement were found to be significantly related to absenteeism for both men and women.

AbstractStudies investigating the relationship between various psychological variables (i.e. organizational commitment, job involvement and job satisfaction) and absenteeism, have generally yielded either weak or conflicting results. Based on the literature that documents the influence of weather on moods and other behaviour, and on intuitive expectations, this paper explores the relationship between weather and absenteeism. The results show that "poor" weather, particularly low temperatures, is related to higher rates of absenteeism and the relationship differs across the seasons. Implications for future research are discussed.RésuméLes études évaluant les relations entre différentes variables psychologiques (c'est‐à‐dire l'engagement envers l'organisation, l'implication dans le travail, la satisfaction au travail) et l'absentéisme, ont généralement donné des résultats ou faibles ou contradictoires. Cet article, fondé sur la littérature qui concerne l'influence du climat sur les humeurs et sur d'autres comportements, aussi que sur certaines intuitions, explore la relation entre les variations météorologiques et l'absentéisme. II en resulte que de mauvaises conditions météorologiques, en particulier des températures basses, sont reliées à des taux plus élevés d'absentéisme et que la relation varie avec les saisons. On en tire des implications pour des recherches à venir.
