Since 2016 the mistreatment of Uyghurs, a Turkic Muslim minority living in their homeland in northwest China, by the People's Republic of China has been taken to extreme levels. Uyghurs now are clearly victims of genocidal policies through internment of all types. The total internment of Uyghurs involves physical, psychological and virtual internments. In this article, I discuss the issue in three parts, namely internment camps for Uyghurs, urban internment and virtual internment. While all of them have both physical and psychological aspects, the last two are based on an Orwelian use of surveillance technologies for the purpose of large-scale persecution and suppression of Uyghurs with the intention of achieving a China with one homogenous culture. The total internment which is currently being carried out has two main motives: Islamophobia and the crucial geo-strategical position of the Uyghur homeland.

AbstractPublic administration has seen an influx of work addressing something that has been called "behavioral public administration (BPA)"; A hallmark of BPA is the examination of public administration from a micro‐level perspective with attention to the psychological aspects of human behavior. However, scholars of public administration have long applied a micro‐level lens to their research, even from a psychological standpoint. We argue here that the call for BPA is mainly an appeal for greater reliance on an analytical lens or research method, namely experimental designs. As argued here, however, little attention has been given to major drawbacks: experiments tend not to be theory driven, they overstate their importance to policy and management, and they fail to capture the significance of politics and institutions. If BPA is to be more than a passing fancy, the limits of experimentation must be reevaluated for public administration.

Local attitudes towards wildlife encompass environmental, political, sociocultural and psychological dimensions that shape human-wildlife interactions and conservation efforts. Although the political and sociocultural dimensions of these interactions have been extensively examined by political ecologists and cultural anthropologists, psychological aspects have remained largely untapped so far. This article presents an in-depth review of a long historical record of changing attitudes towards wildlife among Maasai pastoralists of the Amboseli Ecosystem in southern Kenya, examining their shifts in light of different conservation psychology theories. The historical changes are reviewed in relation to three theories of attitudinal shifts (i.e., cognitive dissonance, reactance, and motivation crowding theory) and discussed in a context of land dispossession, conservation policies and changes in Maasai lifestyles and cultural values. We conclude that conservation psychology adds an important dimension to understanding attitudes towards wildlife and how they bear on conservation policies and practices. ; Peer reviewed

Dr. Sherman P. Vinograd fulfilled the roles of Chief of Medical Science and Technology and Director of Biomedical Research at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from the fall of 1961 until the spring of 1979. In this role he shaped, organized, and directed NASA's program of medical research as a funded program of studies, which was carried out in not only NASA Center laboratories, but also in university, industry, and other government laboratories and hospitals all over the country. It produced a large substrate of information through its bed rest studies, vestibular, bone, neuromuscular, hematology, and cardiovascular researches. It also produced valuable fall-out, such as an accurate bone density measurement technique which is now in common clinical use. ; His major activities during this career were conceptualizing, establishing, and chairing the Space Medicine Advisory Group (SPAMAG) charged with defining the earth-based and space-based research and life-support requirements for a manned orbiting research laboratory. This group designed a carefully planned study utilizing highly qualified, specialized members of the scientific community. They postulated a non-existent orbiting laboratory to be designed according to the needs of future human flight crews and requirements for human spaceflight information. This would result in the creation of Skylab. ; He was also responsible for establishing the In-flight Medical Experiments Program in preparation for the Apollo series of manned space flights. This program was a series of carefully designed flight crew studies derived from proposals by qualified scientists both from within and outside NASA to evaluate human responses to spaceflight. ; In addition, Dr. Vinograd developed a supportive Research and Development Program necessary to provide pertinent ground-based data and to advance state-of-the-art medical measurement technology, a major development of which was the Integrated Medical and Behavioral Laboratory Measurement System (IMBLMS). This consisted of medical experiments and accompanying equipment necessary to perform them that was used from the Gemini through the Skylab manned space flight programs. Carried aboard virtually any post-Apollo space vehicle by virtue of its rack and module design, these designs were used well into the future. He also fostered the continuing ground-based medical research program sponsored and/or conducted by NASA. ; The Dr. Sherman P. Vinograd Aerospace Exploration collection consists of artifacts, books, correspondence, financial materials, newspapers, photographs, plaques, printed materials, and reports relating to Dr. Vinograd's early life, his career as an M. The article examines as an object of research sport in the socialist countries: while utilizing the functional analysis, in a complex manner and also the theoretical anal ysis and generalizations. The author undertook the attempt of constructing a model of sport, conceiving modelling as a means of overcoming the complexity of systems. The work takes into account the basic premises of the theory of activity. The following aspects of sport are being examined: creative, social, communica tive, psychological, value oriented and cognitive, as well as the sport aspect of game. Each of them expresses the total set of functions. The creative aspect is connected with the following functions: preparatory, sani tative, educational and normative. The social aspect is constituted by the following functions: ideological, political, socializing, integrative organizational administrative, prestige and cultural functions. The communicative aspect consists in the following functions: interaction and exchange of experience. The creative aspect includes the individualizing, and heuristic functions. The game aspect which belongs to the most complex ones, is expressed in the following functions: competitive, the defensive-com pensatory, hedonistic, recreational and spectacular functions. The psychological aspect is represented by the following functions : will power preparation, distraction, intel lectualization, projecting and cathartic functions. The value-orientation aspect includes also estimation functions. The cognition aspect is reflected in the following functions: prognostics, propaganda, education and information functions. The enumerated func tions of sport are mobile and some to light in unity. Per analogy with other social phenoinena, the article also deals with the funda mental, particular and special functions of sport.

Mädchen und Frauen zufügen und weist auf die Notwendigkeit und die Grenzen einer akzeptierenden Haltung in der Arbeit mit ihnen hin. Unter dem Blickwinkel, daß sich ritzende junge Frauen als Subjekte während ihres selbstverletzenden Verhaltens handeln, werden auf individueller Ebene zentrale Punkte wie Selbstentfremdung, die Abwehr von Depersonalisationszuständen und die Wahrnehmung des und der objekthafte Umgang mit dem eigenen Körper besprochen. Dabei zeigt sich, daß in der aktiven Handlung ein selbstfürsorgliches Element liegt. Ferner werden geschlechtsspezifische Entstehungszusammenhänge heraus gearbeitet, die Ritzen als v.a. weibliches Verhalten erklären. Dabei wird gezeigt, daß die gesellschaftliche Begrenzung aggressiver Ausdrucksformen für Frauen die Entwicklung autoaggressiven Verhaltens begünstigt und daß sich einander ähnelnde Umgangsweisen mit dem eigenen Körper in unserer Gesellschaft widersprüchlich bewertet werden, je nachdem welchen Zweck sie dienen.' This edited volume focuses on the interplay between organizational identities and firm growth, an area which remains largely unexplored. Firm growth in its various forms is omnipresent in the contemporary business environment, but does not always lead to positive results. At the same time, some organizations are growing faster than their peers, leading to questions of organizational growth antecedents.
