This article explores how cross-cultural research on sexual and reproductive rights can be vulnerable to ethnocentrism, and in what way ethnocentrism can be reduced in such research. Against the background of feminist debate on equality and difference, it discusses how the concepts of sexual and reproductive rights, within the parameters of development discourse, can reinforce hierarchical dichotomies of North–South, modern–traditional and actor–structure, and undervalue southern women's agency. An analytical framework that combines the entitlement approach and the three-dimensional model of gender is proposed to diminish ethnocentrism and counter homogenization and generalization. This framework aims at balancing agency, actor and structure, and allowing for differences, heterogeneity and contradictions.

Since 1983 in Costa Rica, the first cases of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) have occurred, and nowadays, the incidence of HIV infection has increased in recent years, making great progress with antiretroviral treatment (ART). But coexistence with HIV proves to be a stigma for society, which has generated a rejection on the part of Costa Rican culture. For this reason, the present article presents a qualitative study about the reality of the Sexual and Reproductive Rights of Women with HIV. A bibliographic review of 67 articles was carried out, including databases from Cochrane, EBSCO Host, MEDLine, bibliographic sources for database of hospital libraries and statistics up to 2015 on HIV incidence in Costa Rica. The main objective is to know the current situation of women's vulnerability to HIV discrimination, as well as their Sexual and Reproductive Rights. In the same way, in this small bibliographic study, the lack of information on the part of the citizenship in the subject of HIV, in prevention and protection of the Rights of people with HIV, is evidenced.

The understanding and promotion of sexual and reproductive rights are essential in the social work profession, not only to improve the health status of affected populations but to advocate effectively for social justice and to respond to globalized realities. This article highlights the relevance of sexual and reproductive rights in the philosophical foundation and practice of social work, emphasizes the impact of reproductive health and rights on women's lives, and proposes a social work agenda that will embrace and promote sexual and reproductive rights. It uses policy statements from the International Federation of Social Workers as well as a human rights framework focused on sexual and reproductive rights that stems from the global feminist movement.

As the Trump Presidency begins, advocates for sexual and reproductive rights are rightly concerned that decades of gains are at grave risk. On Day Three of his presidency, President Trump signed an Executive Order reinstating the Global Gag Rule, extending it for the first time to "all global health assistance furnished by all departments and agencies". This would include President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) funding for HIV and TB programmes, as well as funding for maternal and child health. This first salvo indicates that the Trump-Pence Administration will be agressive in seeking to cut funding and roll back laws, policies and political agreements on sexual an reproductive health and rights, going far beyond abortion.
