Die Untersuchung befasst sich mit dem Instrument der Tierschutz-Verbandsklage, das es ausgewählten Klägern zugunsten der Tiere ermöglicht, tierschutzrelevante Behördenentscheidungen von einem Verwaltungsgericht überprüfen zu lassen. Auf Bundesebene konnte sich dieses Instrument bislang nicht durchsetzen, auf Landesebene hingegen wurde die Tierschutz-Verbandsklage in der Hälfte der Bundesländer eingeführt. Der Autor beleuchtet Hintergründe, theoretische Grundlagen und die praktische Umsetzung des Instruments. Er ordnet die Tierschutz-Verbandsklage in einen sozialen, politischen und ethischen Kontext sowie vor dem Hintergrund der Geschichte und der Gegenwart des Tierschutzrechts ein. Daneben behandelt er verwaltungs- und verfassungsrechtliche Gesichtspunkte des Instruments und unterzieht die bestehenden landesrechtlichen Tierschutz-Verbandsklage-Gesetze einer näheren Betrachtung. Are regions within a country really independent islands? Do economic relations and effects really have a homogenous, unique size across an entire country? These two assumptions are often imposed implicitly in empirical economic and social research. In his doctoral thesis, Norbert Schanne discusses how statistical methods can deviate from this unrealistic model structure through employing spatial patterns in both observable variables and presumed relations. Opportunities to improve our understanding of the economy as well as chances and perils in the application of such methods are demonstrated in a number of studies on aspects of regional labour market dynamics. Wie in statistischen Verfahren von dieser unrealistischen Modellstruktur unter Ausnutzung der räumlichen Strukturen in beobachteten Variablen und unterstellten Zusammenhängen abgewichen werden kann, diskutiert Norbert Schanne im vorliegenden Band. Möglichkeiten, unser Verständnis der Ökonomie zu vertiefen, werden ebenso verdeutlicht, wie Chancen und Tücken beim Einsatz der Methoden in Studien zu verschiedenen Aspekten der Arbeitsmarktdynamik.

"On 25th-27th October 2007, after more than three years of CONNEX ('Connecting Excellence on European Governance'), Research Group 4, working on 'Civil society and interest representation in EU-Governance' and Research Group 5, working on 'Social capital as catalyst of civic engagement and quality of governance' met in Piran, Slovenia for a Wrapping-up Conference (WUC). The main aim of the conference was to bring together the state of the art knowledge of both Research Groups. The idea was to present new insights gained during CONNEX, to deduct new research questions for the last months of CONNEX, as well as for continued research after CONNEX, thus assuring sustainability. The conference focused on three aspects of civil society and European governance and a number of cross-cutting questions were discussed related to biased representation (Session I), participatory engineering (Session II) and civil society and democracy in the EU (Session III)." "This chapter looks at gendered rhetoric of the peace movement of the early 1980s in West Germany, characterized as the largest social movement ever in that country and around the world. After reviewing the development of West German pacifism in the context of the Cold War in the preceding decades, the piece looks to the ways in which gendered rhetoric played a significant, positive role in bringing the range of feminists together, and in bringing enormous numbers of West Germans into activism. The article also traces some of the more negative aspects of this rhetoric, surprisingly consistent across the range of constituent organizations. On the one hand, the gendered language implies and perhaps reveals some problematic views of West German identity and history, particularly through notions of 'victimization'. On the other hand, this very language may also have contributed to the movement's ultimate lack of success in preventing missile deployment, also in part by emphasizing West German citizens' 'victim' role." Although sexual minorities in Africa continue to face harsh penalties for same-sex relationships, strong anti-homophobic resistance exists across the continent. This book systematically charts the emergence and effects of politicized homophobia in Malawi and shows how it has been used as a strategy by political elites to consolidate their moral and political authority, through punishing LGBT people and dividing social movements. Here, Ashley Currier pays particular attention to the impact of politicized homophobia on different social movements, specifically HIV/AIDS, human rights, LGBT rights, and women's rights movements. This study draws on fifteen months of research into both the lives of East Germans before the fall of communism and their fast-changing world after they embraced capitalism. Grounded in powerful anthropological insights, Milena Veenis argues persuasively that national identifications and the bond between state and citizenry in both East and West Germany over the past twenty years has been shaped by the far-fetched, socialist and capitalist promises of consumption as the road to ultimate well-being. The present paper analyzes some aspects of the population ageing and its im-portant consequences for particular societies and the whole world. Basing on this analysis, we can draw a conclusion that the future technological break-through is likely to take place in the 2030s (which we define as the final phase of the Cybernetic Revolution). In the 2020s – 2030s we will expect the upswing of the forthcoming sixth Kondratieff wave, which will introduce the sixth tech-nological paradigm (system). All those revolutionary technological changes will be connected, first of all, with breakthroughs in medicine and related tech-nologies. We also present our ideas about the financial instruments that can help to solve the problem of pension provision for an increasing elderly popula-tion in the developed countries. We think that a more purposeful use of pension funds' assets together with an allocation (with necessary guarantees) of the lat-ter into education and upgrading skills of young people in developing countries, perhaps, can partially solve the indicated problem in the developed states.
