; Public policy is always focused on finding the most effective ways to communicate with the broad masses (society, population, electorate). Historical experience shows that one of such methods is the introduction of theatrical elements into the communication process. The purpose of this study is to identify and comprehend the social and philosophical foundations of the theatricalization of the political sphere. The concept of theatricality of sociocommunicative manifestations of culture was chosen as a methodological research strategy (based on methods of sociocultural analysis). This approach made is possible to find out that the combination of the elements of the game, performance, ritual, carnival, masquerade in political "spectacles" helps to: attract the attention of opponents; demonstrations of solidarity with the protest movement; the formation of the image of the politician in accordance with the role that he plays in the political "theater"; creating additional channels of communication policy with the "public". One of these channels is costume jewelry and accessories, which are not only an addition to the image of a politician, but also an important dramatic element. By allowing the replacement of a direct message with a sign-symbolic form, jewelry helps to impart a gaming, theatrical format to the communication process. On the one hand, it helps to expand the audience, but, on the other hand, it introduces an element of interpretation into the process of information transfer. This circumstance is used by the mass media, strengthening its role in the political "theater". It has also been established that to a certain extent theatricality has always been inherent in politics. But the theatrical component does not always prevail in it: the desire for theatricality increases with the division of the political sphere into public and "hidden". Strengthening theatrical manifestations in the modern political sphere indicates that this is the trend that is developing in social relations. This, in turn, determines the emergence of new technologies and communication formats in the system "power – society".

Saudi Arabia and Iran have often behaved as serious rivals for influence in the Middle East and especially the Gulf area since at least Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution and the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War. While both nations define themselves as Islamic, the differences between their foreign policies could hardly be more dramatic. In most respects, Saudi Arabia is a regional status quo power, while Iran often seeks revolutionary change throughout the Gulf area and the wider Middle East with varying degrees of intensity. Saudi Arabia also has strong ties with Western nations, while Iran views the United States as its most dangerous enemy. Perhaps the most important difference between the two nations is that Saudi Arabia is a conservative Sunni Muslim Arab state, while Iran is a Shi'ite state whose senior politicians often view their country as the defender and natural leader of Shi'ites throughout the region. The rivalry between Riyadh and Tehran has been reflected in the politics of a number of regional states where these two powers exercise influence including Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Bahrain and others. The 2011 wave of pro-democracy and anti-regime protests known as the "Arab Spring" introduced new concerns for both Saudi Arabia and Iran to consider within the framework of their regional priorities. The Saudi-Iranian rivalry is therefore likely to intensify as a central feature in the Middle Eastern security landscape that reaches into both the Gulf region and the Arab-Israeli theater. This is a reality that will touch upon the interests of the United States in a number of situations. In many instances, Saudi opposition to Iran will serve U.S. interests, but this will not occur under all circumstances. Saudi Arabia remains a deeply anti-revolutionary state with values and priorities which sometimes overlap with those of Washington on matters of strategic interest and often conflict over matters of reform and democracy for other Middle Eastern states. Additionally, in seeking to support Middle Eastern stability, the United States must be prepared to mediate between Riyadh and Baghdad, and thereby help to limit Iranian efforts to insert itself into Iraqi politics. ; "December 2011." ; Includes bibliographical references (p. 63-78). ; Introduction -- The background of Saudi-Iranian relations -- Saudi-Iranian competition in the Gulf area -- The March 2011 Saudi-led intervention in Bahrain and the Iranian response -- Saudi Arabia and the Syrian-Iranian relationship -- Saudi-Iranian competition in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon -- The Saudi-Iranian rivalry and the future of Iraq -- Conclusions. ; Saudi Arabia and Iran have often behaved as serious rivals for influence in the Middle East and especially the Gulf area since at least Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution and the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War. "An in-depth look at the life of Oakland, California native, Barclay Simpson, Strong Ties focuses on the set of convictions and leadership qualities that allowed Simpson to build a successful business from nothing and to become one of the major philanthropists in the San Francisco Bay Area. A Navy pilot during World War II, he didn't graduate from college until over twenety years after he dropped out of UC Berkeley in 1946 to help save his father's Emeryville-based window screens business from bankruptcy. Largely self-taught, he went on in 1956 to found Simpson Manufacturing Co, Inc., which he grew from a small, artisan business that fabricated metal connectors into a world-wide, publicly-traded company, known throughout the construction industry as a manufacturer of over 4000 distinct, highly engineered products for tying one structural element to another in residential and commercial projects. In building the company, he developed a set of company principles-revolutionary for their times-that placed employees at the center of his business. Central to these principles was a compensation system that included broad-based, quarterly profit-sharing along with employee development and education programs that promoted hiring from within the ranks of the company, thereby allowing employees to build life-long careers in which many were able to go from hourly production line labor to management. As US companies increasingly grapple with the role of capitalism in giving back to their employees and the communities in which they are based, Barclay Simpson's philosophy makes for a particularly unusual and relevant American business story. Equally pertinent in these volatile times is the story of how he successfully transferred his core business principles to his philanthropic work, providing major financial and in-kind support to such East Bay non-profit organizations as UC Berkeley, Girls Inc of Alameda County, the California College of the Arts, the Oakland Museum, the California Shakespeare Theater and many others, with a special focus on the arts and the education of low income kids. A story of Barclay Simpson's leadership style as both a business man and a philanthropist, Strong Ties chronicles the astounding continuity between his views on making money, and giving it away"--
Why do children and young people need art? How do we rationalize the significance of art in society? This anthology is based on research carried out by members of the multidisciplinary research group Art and Young People at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Agder in Kristiansand.
The contributing authors argue in favor of research into children's and young people's actual experience of art and artistic practices as well as issues within the arts that affect them indirectly. The book's subtitle indicates a desire to employ a wider understanding of the notions of art and childhood and youth, which is also evident in the themes, content and research approaches it includes.
The chapters span both children's and young people's interaction with visual art, music, theater within and outside the context of preschool, school and extracurricular programs, and projects that are more on the periphery of these areas. The authors are thus not just interested in the importance of art to children and young people, but to society in general as well. This anthology is aimed at readers across a broad spectrum of academic disciplines, but will also be of interest to all those concerned with art's place and meaning in schools, in society, and in research itself. - Hvorfor trenger barn og unge kunst? Hvordan begrunnes kunstens betydning i samfunnet?
"A coming-of-age memoir of life on the frontlines of the AIDS Crisis with ACT UP New York. From the moment Ron Goldberg stumbled into his first ACT UP meeting in June 1987, the AIDS activist organization became his life. For the next eight years, he chaired committees, planned protests, led teach-ins, and facilitated their Monday night meetings. He cruised and celebrated at ACT UP parties, attended far too many AIDS memorials, and participated in over a hundred zaps and demonstrations, becoming the group's unofficial "Chant Queen," writing and leading chants for many of their major actions. Boy with the Bullhorn is both a memoir and an immersive history of the original New York chapter of ACT UP, the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, from 1987 to 1995, told with great humor, heart, and insight. Using the author's own story, "the activist education of a well-intentioned, if somewhat naïve nice gay Jewish theater queen," Boy with the Bullhorn intertwines Goldberg's experiences with the larger chronological history of ACT UP, the grassroots AIDS activist organization that confronted politicians, scientists, drug companies, religious leaders, the media, and an often-uncaring public to successfully change the course of the AIDS epidemic. Diligently sourced and researched, Boy with the Bullhorn provides both an intimate look into how activist strategies are developed and deployed, as well as a snapshot of life in New York City during the darkest days of the AIDS epidemic. On the occasions where Goldberg writes outside his personal experience, he relies on his extensive archive of original ACT UP documents, news articles, and other published material, as well as activist videos and oral histories, to help flesh out actions, events, and the background stories of key activists. Writing with great candor, Goldberg examines the group's triumphs and failures, as well as the pressures and bad behaviors that eventually tore ACT UP apart. A story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, from engaging in outrageous, media-savvy demonstrations, to navigating the intricacies of drug research and the byzantine bureaucracies of the FDA, NIH, and CDC, Boy with the Bullhorn captures the passion, smarts, and evanescent spirit of ACT UP-the anger, grief, and desperation, but also the joy, camaraderie, and sexy, campy playfulness-and the exhilarating adrenaline rush of activism"--
