; Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Raul Castro and CamiloCienfuegos, these are the men whose images havealways been associated with the Cuban Guerilla groupwhich brought an end to the tyrannical leadership inCuba. Celia Sánchez Manduley a middle class Cuban biologist woman, distressed about thesocial and economic position of thepeasants under the Fulgencio Batista'sregime, initiated and nurtured guerrillawarfare in Sierra Maestra, determinedto bring an end to Batista, the Mafia andthe US government, who, she believedwas responsible for the rape and robberyof Cuban society. She took refuge in theSierra Mountains where she recruitedpeasants who were willing to put anend to the Batista tyranny. The situation of indigenous women in Chihuahua is characterized by marginalization, poverty, and inequality. For this reason, some indigenous members of the Rarámuri community are forced to migrate with their families to the major cities of the state in order to satisfy their most basic needs. In the indigenous community settled in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, we find that the community´s government is administered and regulated by women, a role that has been traditionally assigned to men. The purpose of this article is to approach women›s participation in the Tarahumara´s government at Ciudad Juarez in order to understand their role as government officials, political leadership, and the methods they use to solve the community´s problem. In order to accomplish our objective, we interviewed female government representatives of the Tarahumara community in Ciudad Juarez. The results of this research showed two significant issues: the extreme vulnerability in which the indigenous people live in the urban environment and the strategies women use, attached to the gender role, to maintain order, leadership, and improve the quality of life of their community.

The collection consists of correspondence, minutes, and printed materials pertaining to the organization and activities of the Depo Diaries, a national storytelling project of the Committee on Women, Population, and the Environment (CWPE), 1999-2008. Files include forms and questionnaires for participants in the project, promotional flyers, meeting minutes, and printed materials pertaining to reproductive justice and other CWPE activities. ; Formed in 2001, the Committee on Women, Population, and the Environment (CWPE), a multi-racial alliance of feminist community organizers, scholarly activists, and health practitioners, is committed to promoting the social and economic empowerment of women in a context of global peace and justice; and to eliminating poverty. As an organization, CWPE supports women's right to safe, voluntary birth control and abortion, while strongly opposing demographically driven population policies, challenging the belief that population growth is the primary cause of environmental degradation, conflict, and growing poverty, working to provide a broader analysis that reflects the complexity of these issues. CWPE works to build partnerships with community organizers, scholar-activists, and health practitioners to accomplish its political goals, coordinating three task forces: the Dangerous Contraceptive Task Force; the Immigration, Environment, and Gender Task Force; and the Gender, Eugenics, and Biotechnology Task Force. These are the vehicles through which CWPE builds strong coalitions to challenge oppressive population control policies. In addition, CWPE also coordinates three critical initiatives designed to address and undermine reproductive violence and increase reproductive self-determination: Stop C.R.A.C.K.!, Depo Diaries, and Stop Sex Selection!. Depo Diaries was a national storytelling project with an emphasis on reproductive justice with the goal of uncovering a more accurate picture of the range and kinds of side effects women experience from Depo-Provera (trademarked name of medroxyprogesterone, an injected contraceptive).

Social Representations is one of the most important theories in contemporary social psychology. Since the social psychologist Serge Moscovici developed his theory of social representations to explain how a scientific theory such as the psychoanalysis turns into a common sense knowledge many studies have been done by different social psychologists. The analysis of the social representations of women as represented in myths & popular beliefs is an excellent opportunity to study how this theory can be applied to this representational field. At the same time it makes possible to understand the formation of attitudes towards women.

This paper explores the role of women in leadership in Latin American Regionalism and, more specifically, the incorporation of gender commitments at the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (celac), focusing on the case of the overlapping mandates, during the period 2011-2014, of three women in the Presidencies of Chile, Argentina and Brazil: Michelle Bachelet, Cristina Kirchner, and Dilma Rousseff, respectively. The paper draws on feminist approaches and the literature of women and leadership, and incorporates peculiarities pointed out in the literature of Latin American regionalism, such as weak institutions, presidential diplomacy, and active transnational advocacy networks. The main argument advanced is that the effect of women in leadership cannot be taken for granted as gender was not a priority during the governments of these presidents. The more diffuse commitment to human rights, which they all shared, as well as their symbolic empowerment effect might have strengthened the gender cause advanced by civil society and transnational advocacy networks.
