In der Studie wird ein Forschungsbericht zur gesellschaftlichen Bedeutung und Wirkung der Jugendklubs in der Freizeitgestaltung der Jugend thesenartig zusammengefaßt: (1) Die Jugendklubs bestätigen in der Freizeitgestaltung der Jugend die einheitliche sozialistische Jugendpolitik der SED. (2) Der Einfluß des sozialistischen Jugendverbandes in der gesamten Tätigkeit und Entwicklung der Jugendklubs nimmt ständig zu. (3) Die Mehrheit der Jugendklubs entwickelt sich zu Zentren der sinnvollen Freizeitgestaltung Jugendlicher. (4) Die Jugendklubs tragen zur Herausbildung von Inhalten und Formen sozialistischer Lebensweise in der Freizeitgestaltung Jugendlicher bei. Die jugendpolitischen Schwerpunkte in der gesellschaftlichen Bedeutung und Wirkung der Jugendklubs werden skizziert. Die Analyse kommt zu dem Ergebnis, daß Jugendklubs heute zu gesellschaftlich notwendigen Institutionen und Zentren der Gestaltung der sozialistischen Gesellschaft geworden sind. (ICA)

This article gives an analysis of social pedagogical work in leisure and youth clubs, physically located in so-called socially deprived housing areas in Denmark. The pedagogical work is especially aimed at young boys of ethnic minority background. The article draws on empirical research from a project exploring leisure and youth clubs' impact on children and young people's well-being and opportunities for development when growing up in socially deprived housing areas. The social pedagogical work seems very closely related to societal issues moving into the pedagogical everyday life of the leisure and youth clubs. These clubs, besides embracing the children and young people's active leisure life in communities with other children and young people, are thus also instrumental in helping and supporting the children and young people to cope with an everyday life that features experiences of stigmatising and inequality-shaped living conditions. The social pedagogical work is analysed from the perspectives of the pedagogues and young people, taking their point of view to what seems particularly significant to the well-being and development of the young people based on Scandinavian-German critical psychology. This is integrated with Paulo Freire's notion of hope and empowerment, which is the analytical framework within the context of social pedagogical work concerned with how the young men develop belief in themselves for them to complete their education, get a job in after-school hours and refrain from involvement in crime and gang-related communities.

In the midst of societal optimism, how do young men cope with the loss of a vibrant future? This book provides a vivid exploration of the tension between subjective and societal time and the ways these tensions create experiences of marginality among under- or unemployed young men in the Republic of Georgia. Based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork, the author shows how the Georgian state has attempted to make the so-called post-Soviet transition a thing of the past as it creates new ideas about the future.

Im Dezember 2017 wählt die südafrikanische Regierungspartei African National Con­gress (ANC) einen neuen Vorsitz. Diese Person soll auch für das Amt des Präsidenten Anfang 2019 kandidieren, wenn Präsident Jacob Zuma die von der Verfassung zugelas­senen maximal zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Amtszeiten erreicht hat. Derzeit ist unklar, ob er diese beenden kann. Seit der Entlassung des Finanzministers Pravin Gordhan hat der Widerstand gegen Zuma einen neuen Höhepunkt erreicht. Ein breites Bündnis von zivilgesellschaftlichen Gruppen, Gewerkschaften und Parteivertretern, teilweise sogar aus seiner eigenen Partei, fordert seinen Rücktritt. Zwar richten sich die Proteste direkt gegen Zuma, doch liegen die Ur­sachen der Unzufriedenheit tiefer. Dem ANC ist es nicht gelungen, die sozialen Heraus­forderungen im Land erfolgreich anzugehen. Korruption und Misswirtschaft haben das Vertrauen zusätzlich erschüttert. Lange Zeit galt es unter der schwarzen Bevölkerung als alternativlos, für die ehemalige Befrei­ungsbewegung zu stimmen. In den letzten vier Jahren ist dem ANC mit den Eco­nomic Freedom Fighters (EFF) aber eine ernst­zunehmende Konkurrenz erwachsen. 'Bei Modellierungsansätzen für diskrete Verweildauern mit wenigen Ausprägungen erweisen sich diskrete Hazardratenmodelle als adäquates Instrument. Ansätze dafür werden durch einen sequentiellen Mechanismus motiviert. Mit Hilfe des Programmsystems GLAMOUR wird ein Vergleich durchgeführt zwischen dem früheren Westdeutschland und Ungarn hinsichtlich des Merkmals 'sexueller Erstkontakt von Jugendlichen'.' Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der Analyse ordinaler Indikatoren. Die Autoren beabsichtigen damit, auf folgenden meßtheoretisch relevanten Sachverhalt zu reagieren: 'Viele soziologische Theorieansätze, etwa zum Wertewandel oder zur Theorie sozialer Ungleichheit, gehen ja gerade von einer Auflösung einheitlicher Bezugssysteme aus. Weshalb sollten dann Einstellungsitems für alle Befragten eine identische Semantik aufweisen? Viel wahrscheinlicher ist doch aus der Sicht derartiger bezugsgruppenspezifischer Theorienbildung eine unterschiedliche Dimensionalität in verschiedenen Subgruppen. In gewisser Weise kann man in der Konzeption von Mischverteilungsmodellen eine Transformierung substanzwissenschaftlicher Annahmen in statistische Modellbildung sehen. Andererseits muß man sich verdeutlichen, welchen Preis man für die Aufgabe der Eindimensionalität zahlt. Allein diese Annahme ermöglicht es ja, unterschiedliche soziale Gruppen entlang eines einheitlichen Einstellungskontinuums zu verorten und im Sinne eines 'mehr oder weniger' (...jugendzentriert, postmaterialistisch, autoritär etc.) miteinander in Beziehung zu setzen.' This paper evaluates the impacts on the participants of the Yemen Social Fund for Development's youth employment and training program called Rural and Urban Advocates Working for Development (RUAWFD). The evaluation used both traditional surveys and an innovative experimental game methodology to show that the employment program, in addition to aiding youth individually, has important benefits for the country as a whole by contributing to stronger social capital. The survey analysis finds for the program participants significant increases between the baseline and follow-up surveys in self-reported trust in local government institutions and officials, political parties, and tribes. In reflecting on the level of cooperativeness in their own communities, participants reported increased awareness of the presence of marginalized groups and increased perception of cooperativeness in surrounding communities. There was also a significant increase in self-reported trust in people generally, especially for trust in other young people and in people from other areas of Yemen. The experimental game methodology uses a common pool game from the experimental economics literature incentivized by cash payments to measure trust levels between pairs of RUAWFD participants from different geographic regions. This approach confirms the findings from the survey analysis while avoiding possible self-reporting bias. The game results show that trust was lowest at baseline for partners in which one of the partners was from one of the Northern governorates and the other was from one of the Southern governorates. After the intervention, however, not only were average trust levels higher, but Northern-Southern pairs of RUAWFD participants had trust levels closer to those for pairs from the same regions. These findings are consistent with the literature on inter-group contact theory suggesting that community interventions can increase trust in individuals and institutions. This research contributes to a growing literature on trust and social capital as important development indicators, particularly in relation to conflict.
