; For the last few years online social movements have spread through several latitudes creating important theoretical challenges for several areas of knowledge, concerning the nature of such actions, given the connective and technological quality of its acts as well as concerning the creation of a new kind of locality, simultaneously informative and material expression of an unprecedented dwelling condition that brings humans together, informative circuits and territorialities. Finally, the necessity that imposes rethinking the composition of human collectives beyond the perspective of modern sociology, since it presents itself as expression of a reticular interactive ecology that is no longer political, that is, anthropomorphic and ideologically oriented.
; Our starting point is that the decline of party mobilisation and political socialisation is of great importance to better understand both how democracy works and how it may survive. At national level, party member activity has significant features that are deeply seated in the nation's political culture. At an individual level, party activism is a mission particular to each person. It is not only part of his or her unique life story but serves also as a link in the chain of party sustainability. Party mobilisation and political socialisation warrant further development in the Portuguese context, particularly the study of the choice of party members' activity upstream. The main objective of this article is to identify, in a comparative perspective, sociodemographic basic traits, and a set of essential political and ideological attitudes of party members of three main Portuguese parties with parliamentary representation (Socialist Party – PS, Social Democratic Party – PSD, and Centro Democrático Social / Partido Popular – CDS/PP). The methodology of this study is based on the survey technique validated in the MAPP project (Working group on Members and Activists of Political Parties). This is an object scarcely analyzed in Portugal (Stock et al., 1985; Lisi & Espírito Santo, 2017), and its expected results will be those of contributing to identify causalities regarding the decrease and lack of interest for parties' activities in politics in general, on the one hand. On the other hand, it is intended to contribute to getting to know better, in an inside party perspective, who are the party affiliates and how they can distinguish themselves from the activists.

This article presents a reflection on the identity transformations in women as a consequence of their political participation in two opposing areas: the guerilla groups and the organizations involved in collective activities in search of peace and against the war in Colombia. Historical situations and the psychosocial factors which were behind their decision to join one political option or another are analyzed in a scenario in which many violent acts occur. The analysis is based on the social construction theory and the gender perspective to explain the make-up of the female identity of guerilla members and peace activists, and questions the relevance of stereotyped thinking which attempts to explain the social behaviours which distance themselves from the identities associated with traditional concepts in which gender-related traits are distorted.
; This article is based on the author's dialogue with the association Mães pela Diversidade (Mothers for Diversity), an NGO located in the Brazilian state of Goiás, to analyze the performance of "maternal activism" opposed to violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual, travesti, transgender, intersex, queer and other non-straight gender expressions (LGBTIQ+).Through verbal and drawn ethnographic records, I propose to reflect on the ways emotions are dramatized in social and political struggles that claim for justice, denounce the violation of human rights, and building a network of mutual support.

We focus on the construction of spatial routines as a determinant of social stratification among LGTB activists. By looking at the activist track of different groups, characterized as 'historical vs. recent', we analyze different uses and representations of space, and their effects on the inclusion-exclusion dynamics at play in a concrete instance political action: the first local "Pride and Sexual Diversity March", in November, 2009. Field observation records and interviews with activists show how the emergence of new activist groups in the late 1990's produced a displacement of spatial routines from the periphery to the downtown area. This process generated a dynamics of inclusion/exclusion which reproduces a social stratification of activism, compromising the goal of broadening the social spectrum of participants. Keywords: LGBT activism; LGBT Pride Parade; social uses of space; social movements; sexual citizenship
This article examines a study by Theodor Adorno about the radio phonic utterances of the extreme right-wing political activist in the USA, Pastor Martin Luther Thomas, in the 1930s. In examining these discourses through the method of content analysis, Adorno sought to understand the motives that led individuals to perpetuate the same economic relations as their forces had overcome, instead of replacing them with a superior and more rational form of social organization. After more than 70 years, this study is undoubtedly an indispensable instrument for understanding the current social scenario, mainly politic.
Cuba has undergone several transformations after the Cold War. The economy has become more diversified & the country has been able to overcome international isolation, & in so doing establish partnerships with China, the European Union & Latin America. In addition, the changes in the Cuban-American community have put younger activists who are more willing to enter into dialogue with the United States, on such matters for example as foreign trade. However, it is difficult for the negotiations to solve more controversial points because of the continued reluctance of Havana to liberalize the political regime. Adapted from the source document.
This article is based on considerations about the limits and potentialities in the production of solidarity, through reciprocal recognition, in social interactions mediated by technology, involving mainly trans activists. Based on concepts of symbolic interactionism in face-to-face social interactions, I regard the conflicts present in political interactions on the internet and the transformation of "potential allies" into "enemies" or "adversaries" in the political struggle. In this analysis, I try to understand the political-academic exchanges involving categories such as "subalternity" and "intersectionality" in order to enter the delicate debate about the greater or lesser appreciation of political positions based on the "standpoint" of the subject and of his or her interlocutor.
This book is a banner hoisted so that readers and readers can understand and position themselves in the current conjuncture in which the theme of sexual and gender diversity are placed in the lives of countless popular class organizations and some leftist political parties. The 19 researchers and activists of social movements and LGBT contributed to the debate with articles that discuss, with some differences, the theme of sexual and gender diversity from a historical-critical reading of social reality and the current panorama of the class struggle in Brazil. This collection represents the accumulation built in the last period from initiatives of the Florestan Fernandes National School (ENFF); of the MST; of movements of the Via Campesina, the Popular Consultation and the Popular Levante of Youth. The May 2014 national elections in South Africa delivered another 'victory' to the ruling African National Congress (ANC). Considering South Africa's 'unfinished liberation', the compromised negotiation at Codesa which is now raising the ire of many African activists and intellectuals, and the growing tension over the ANC's disrespect for voters through its continued practise of cadre deployments; the elections when analysed from a voter apathy perspective indicates a shift in the political landscape. For many young South Africans, the question that is now being asked is 'What is this 'democracy' that South Africa is supposed to have achieved?' considering that the only real benefit that has accrued to the majority of South Africans post-1994 is political freedom. This paper analyses the organization of rural women in Brazil during the last thirty years. Through organized groups, campaigns, commercial and productive experiences, they have mobilized themselves around several movements, in order to make visible women's point of view on rural development, especially on food sovereignty and security themes. The study demonstrates how - through their social practices and in dispute with other political groups - these women have obtained legitimacy for their demands related to the sustainable development and, as a result, have constituted themselves as new political agents. These women, despite their differences, have built common identities as peasants and activists of the women's movements, a result of their involvement in political actions which question gender inequalities in the countryside as well as the unsustainable productive model. The paper also comments themes these movements are involved lately; the process of dialogue started with federal government in order to built gendered public policies to rural women; and issues that still are in the agenda to reinforce alliances with other movements (as consumers) to make their project of sustainable agricultural and consumption model be recognized.
