The paper concerns a youth environmental movement in Bandung to save the urban forest Babakan Silawangi. It is proposed that space for protest plays a significant role in social movements such as environmentalism. Public assembly allows activists to voice their political objections and make their discontent known to the citizenry. Yet political space is different to physical place. According to Henri Lefebvre, political space is an assemblage of co-creation by individuals who occupy the space and demonstrate their subjective meanings for it in expression and lived experience. Since the subjective/collective meanings perceived and experienced by the activists are powerfully enacted, the space itself may shape their identity and this study explores those meanings, which are relational, contextual, and spatial.

For over decades in Indonesian public high school, freshmen orientation program in form of school initiation has been perceived as process that leads to altruistic behavior; consisted of solidarity, closely group interaction, deeper understanding on school's living values, and internal norms. However, its implementation is currently raising many protests of educational experts and scholars as well as become a point of vocal in public areas because violent actions are profoundly practiced as ways to infitrate those altruism and potentially inflct another precedent thought that the activities could be alternative for individual' growth in near future. Accordingly, this research conducted in one of public school in Yogyakarta province attempts to analyze the involvement of school stakeholders throughout the ongoing process in the school initiation and to identify why misleading concept of education remains applied by school' stakeholders. Therefore, the fial recommendation of this research is subjected not only to the school stakeholders, but also relevant boards in the government, where the school aparatus should highly involve parents in making decision and implement accountable action in disseminating information pertinent to education process, the relevant board of education in governmental sector should also increase the partnership with local non-governmental organization who has areas of working in the peace and education to seek and design relevant alternative programs for the sake of eradicating violent actions in the school. Local community situated in the school's surroundings should be also actively involved by respective schools for some of community development-related activities. The last mentioned recommendation is purposively to have students understand deeper and comprehend throroughly the use of knowledge that they learn at school for society.

With the ongoing catastrophe of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world seems to have come to a standstill. Daily living routines, work, and schools predominantly launched into a state of confusion, and people across the globe excessively find ways to cope with their experiences of this traumatic disaster. Concerning schools, the pandemic has dramatically challenged the education system with teaching and learning processes managed remotely, utilising online platforms. This paper explores university students' perception of online learning, specifically during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, to uncover how they respond to this 'new normal' digital mode of teaching and learning and how they seek to regain control over the sudden shift in their lives. Through interviews with students from Universiti Darussalam (UBD) and Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali UNISSA, this original article reveals students' transformative behaviours during online learning, and institutional supports that contribute to the shaping of students' online learning experiences in Brunei.

Many studies on rice landrace (Oryza sativa sbsp. indica) have been conducted by biodiversity, ethnobotany, and agroecology disciplines. The importance of rice landraces as genetic resources and the basics of human civilizations. Conservation landraces in Tumbang Datu and Pongbembe nowadays are affected by the following socio-cultural constraints: a) decline numbers of local varieties after the regional government-imposed funding to local communities to substitute new-high yield varieties, b) rice rites and landrace conservation are on the brink of extinction. This research explores daily behaviors that contribute to rice landrace conservations through the sociological approach of collective memory and symbolic interaction. Today's generations use new meanings and symbols of rice derived from collective memories and virtues. Various interviewees practice mnemonic devices (what, why, who, where, when, and how) that reflect foodways. According to Blumer, social structures are networks of interdependence among actors that place conditions on their actions. In these networks, people act and produce symbols and meanings of rice to interpret their situations and to have their own set in a localized process of social interpretation. Moreover, the Toraja language is used as a bridge in communicating the past, present, and future to strengthening collective identity. This research uses a qualitative method to explore rice landrace conservation using open-ended questions, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussions. A free-listing method was followed to gather interviewees' collective memories of rice landraces. Findings show that a combination of methods, tradition-based conservation, and current scientific-technology-based conservation become a practice for promoting, educating, and stimulating the public and researchers to engage in landraces conservation. These findings suggest that the socio-cultural ecosystem and Blumer's social network support new networks to deliver science in agricultural innovation policy. The results showed that collective memories and foodways create ways that would benefit rice landrace conservation the most.

Padi lokal penting sebagai sumber daya genetika dan dasar berbagai peradaban manusia. Pada masa kini, konservasi varietas-varietas padi lokal di Tumbang Datu dan Pongmbembe menghadapi beberapa tantangan sosial budaya, antara lain a) penurunan jumlah varietas lokal setelah pemerintah kabupaten menyediakan varietas-varietas baru kepada masyarakat, dan b) konservasi dan ritus-ritus, yang menggunakan padi lokal, terancam punah. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi perilaku sehari-hari yang dapat berkontribusi pada konservasi padi lokal, melalui pendekatan sosiologis terhadap memori kolektif dan interaksi simbolik. Generasi masa kini menggunakan makna dan simbol baru padi berdasarkan ingatan kolektif. Para informan mempraktikkan perangkat mnemonik yang mencerminkan foodways. Konsep struktur sosial menurut Blumer adalah jaringan saling ketergantungan antar-aktor, yang menempatkan kondisi pada tindakan aktor tersebut. Orang-orang bertindak dan menghasilkan simbol dan makna padi di dalam jaringan ini, untuk menafsirkan situasi mereka sendiri, dan memiliki device (perangkat) sendiri dalam proses interpretasi sosial. Bahasa Toraja juga berfungsi menjembatani dan mengkomunikasikan masa lalu, masa kini, dan masa depan, sekaligus memperkuat identitas kolektif. Bahasa Toraja digunakan sebagai jembatan untuk mengkomunikasikan masa lalu, masa kini, dan masa depan, demi memperkuat identitas kolektif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk mengeksplorasi konservasi padi lokal, dengan menggunakan pertanyaan terbuka, wawancara mendalam, dan Diskusi Kelompok Terfokus. Metode free-listing digunakan untuk mengumpulkan ingatan kolektif para informan pada padi lokal. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa metode kombinasi, yaitu konservasi berbasis tradisi dan konservasi berbasis teknologi ilmiah saat ini, menjadi praktik untuk mempromosikan, mendidik, dan melibatkan publik dan peneliti di dalam konservasi padi lokal. Selain itu, ekosistem sosio-budaya dan konsep jejaring sosial Blumer mendukung jejaring baru untuk mempromosikan ilmu pengetahuan di dalam kebijakan inovasi pertanian. Kesimpulan, ingatan kolektif dan foodways menciptakan cara yang paling bermanfaat bagi keberhasilan konservasi padi lokal.

The proliferating public interest in conservation can be explored by monitoring what people say and what people do on social media platforms. YouTube is one of the resources for digital conservation studies as the users are allowed to archive and share content. Meanwhile, networks visualization provided by computer software is powerful to preserve vernacular languages since text(s) tagging is one of the main processes in gaining data. The present study aims to answer research questions using a transdisciplinary approach to sociology, ethnobotany, and communication science. Thus, this research enquires; (a) how might conservation of Toraja rice landraces be practiced continuously? (b) what are the current forms of conservation that are developed and accepted as Toraja socio-cultural activities? (c) how do social media platforms, YouTube, for instance, contribute to the conservation efforts in rice landraces? (d) what are the social implications of conservation education through social media? In order to answer the above questions, six different research methods, namely, observations, in-depth interview, mapping distribution of rice landrace varieties in six fields of studies, calculating Index of Cultural Significance on rice accessions for practicing conservation rice landrace. Digital conservation and conservation culturomics were also measured using NodeXL and API for visualizing the graph of YouTube videos network and calculating the frequency of words occurrence according to search string Toraja rice ritual. The outcome from the study indicates the current forms of conservation by cultivating and consuming rice landrace varieties on everyday life and ritual, as well as preserving rice and agriculture images on wood carving motifs, folk song, and folk dance. The digital conservation efforts are demonstrated by archiving and broadcasting rice rituals on YouTube videos. With an increase of frequency on word occurrences by Toraja language on hashtags on YouTube videos, the users were contributing to participatory culture for preserving vernacular language and promoting agricultural innovations in digital conservation ecosystems and environmental communication.
