El artículo busca analizar la enseñanza de estudios de posgrado en diseño en América Latina, teniendo como principal discusión los significados culturales presentes en los objetos que reproducen las culturas hegemónicas eurocéntricas. Se propone un rescate de los valores que forman parte de las tradiciones culturales de los países latinoamericanos, o como las llama Boaventura Santos, las que instituyen Epistemologías del Sur, basadas principalmente en el fuerte impacto del prejuicio y la hegemonía de los valores culturales burgueses, patriarcales y blancos que el diseño industrial transmite a la actual sociedad capitalista occidental. Pensando desde esta perspectiva, el escenario actual requiere la necesidad de ampliar los criterios de conocimiento en el siglo XXI, considerando la diversidad, comenzando con el reconocimiento de una ecología del conocimiento, que debe reflejarse en la investigación del área de diseño.

Partnerships between medical institutions in high-income countries (HICs) and low- to mid-income countries (LMICs) have succeeded in initiating and expanding pediatric cancer control efforts. The long-term goal is consistently a sustainable national pediatric cancer program. Here, we review the elements required for successful implementation, development, and long-term sustainability of pediatric cancer programs in LMICs that first arise as partnerships with institutions in HICs. Although plans must be adapted to each country's resources, certain components are unfailingly necessary. First, an essential step is provision of treatment regardless of ability to pay. Second, financial support for program development and long-term sustainability must be sought from sources both international and local, public and private. A local leader, typically a well-trained pediatric oncologist who devotes full-time effort to the project, should direct medical care and collaborate with hospital, governmental, and community leadership and international agencies. Third, nurses must be trained in pediatric cancer care and allowed to practice this specialty full-time. It is also essential to develop a grassroots organization, such as a foundation, dedicated solely to pediatric oncology. Its members must be trained and educated to provide pediatric cancer advocacy, fundraising, and (in concert with government) program sustainability. Finally, a project mentor in the HIC is crucial and should explore the possibility of collaborative research in the LMIC, which may offer significant opportunities. Relationships between the partnership's leaders and influential individuals in the community, hospital, grassroots foundation, and government will lay the foundation for productive collaboration and a sustainable pediatric oncology program.

ABSTRACT This work examined the stability of lyophilized 'mangaba' pulp powder, rolled and packaged in plastic containers, with and without vacuum during 90 days of storage under room temperature, with evaluation of the parameters every 15 days. Analyses of ascorbic acid concentration, pH, color and water activity were carried out. It was found that ascorbic acid remained in accordance with the standards specified for daily consumption according to the Brazilian legislation in all analyzed packages, with preservation of stability in the laminated package with vacuum, which was also effective in maintaining water activity, which contributes to better stability of the product.

A novel approach for tissue engineering applications based on the use of magnetoelectric materials is presented. This work proves that magnetoelectric Terfenol-D/poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene) composites are able to provide mechanical and electrical stimuli to MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblast cells and that those stimuli can be remotely triggered by an applied magnetic field. Cell proliferation is enhanced up to 25% when cells are cultured under mechanical (up to 110 ppm) and electrical stimulation (up to 0.115 mV), showing that magnetoelectric cell stimulation is a novel and suitable approach for tissue engineering allowing magnetic, mechanical and electrical stimuli. ; This work is funded by FEDER funds through the "Programa Operacional Fatores de Competitividade—COMPETE" and by national funds arranged by FCT—Fundac¸ ão para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, project reference PEST-C/FIS/UI607/2014.
