Els escassos estudis existents sobre la por durant la Primera Guerra Mundial posen l'èmfasi en el canvi diacrònic i no travessen barreres lingüístiques o culturals. Ben al contrari, el present article analitza la representació de la por en diversos tipus de documents redactats en anglès, francès i alemany: cartes i diaris escrits des del front en 1914-18, textos autobiogràfics de les dues dècades següents, i articles i assajos de psiquiatria i psicologia militar publicats abans, durant i immediatament després del conflicte. Després de valorar les possibilitats i limitacions dels textos autobiogràfics com a fonts històriques, l'article examina alguns dels factors socioculturals que subjeuen a les diverses explicacions causals i justificacions que ofereixen els soldats sobre experiències de temor, pànic o por crònica, o sobre possibles estratègies per superar-lo o suportar-lo: per exemple, idees patriòtiques, creences religioses o actituds estoiques professades per alguns soldats i qüestionades per uns altres, segons la seva posició social, l'educació rebuda, la seva relació amb els seus destinataris, la situació que descriuen i les circumstàncies en què escriuen. ; The few existing studies on fear during the First World War place the emphasis on diachronic change and do not cross linguistic or cultural barriers. By contrast, the present article analyses the representation of fear in various types of documents in English, French and German: letters and diaries written from the front in 1914-18, autobiographical texts from the following two decades, and military psychology and psychiatry articles and essays publish before, during and immediately after the conflict. After evaluating the possibilities and limitations of autobiographical texts as historical sources, the article examines some of the sociocultural factors underlying the various causal explanations and justifications offered by soldiers writing about their experiences of fear, panic or chronic dread, or about strategies they might have used in order to overcome or endure their fear. These include stoic attitudes, patriotic ideas and religious beliefs professed by some soldiers and challenged by others, depending on their social status, their education, their relationship to their addressees, the situation described and the circumstances in which they wrote. ; Los escasos estudios existentes sobre el miedo durante la Primera Guerra Mundial ponen el énfasis en el cambio diacrónico y no cruzan barreras lingüísticas o culturales. The article examines the reforms made to the Mexican health care system during the 1990s. The authors analyze how international ideas, models, & financing affected reform initiatives, & how Mexican experts' adapted foreign models to better suit Mexico.
