ABSTRACT
In the twenty-first century and strongly influenced by neoliberalism, the zombie genre has come to represent a dystopia that, in the terrain of demography, appears as a division of the population into redundant and resilient. This discourse implies a transformation of individuals in a process of subjectivation based on competition and resilience and understood as a cross between technologies of the self and technologies of power as defined by Michel Foucault. The article has two main aims: (1) to analyze the figures of the zombie and the survivor from the standpoint of the division of individuals and populations into "redundant" and "resilient" categories as a reflection of subjectivation in the neoliberal model and (2) to explore superdiversity in postapocalyptic demography (gender, age, ethnocultural diversity, and sexual orientation).

Dystopian fiction, stories envisioning dire human futures, originated with the novels of H. G. Wells and others a century ago. "Demodystopias" are a subgenre of dystopias where the imagined futures derive from demographic change, taken perhaps to an extreme: the population explosion, aging and depopulation, mass migration, global epidemics, and the eugenic possibilities of new reproductive technologies. This essay traces the genealogy of demodystopias over the twentieth and early twenty‐first centuries. Their themes reflect the demographic issues of the day: fear of overpopulation in the "population bomb" era; later, threatened societal senescence or swamping by immigrants under ultra‐low fertility; new reproductive regimes under genetic engineering; and the geopolitics of demographic change. As with other dystopias, demodystopias seek to identify present‐day negative tendencies that might lead to a future theatrum diabolorum—and to pin responsibility for such an outcome on ourselves. Authors discussed include Margaret Atwood, Anthony Burgess, Günter Grass, Michel Houellebecq, José Saramago, Lionel Shriver, and Kurt Vonnegut.

Resumen: Uno de los principales efectos de la crisis económica sobre los movimientos migratorios, ha sido el incremento de la emigración de población inmigrada y sus descendientes. Esta emigración agrupa movimientos de diferente índole: el retorno, la emigración de arrastre y la emigración a terceros países. El presente artículo aborda el estudio de la emigración desde España de la población marroquí comparada con las otras nacionalidades que mayor número de bajas han registrado. Para ello se han utilizado los microdatos correspondientes a las bajas producidas entre 2008 (primer año de la crisis) y 2011 (últimas disponibles) de las Estadísticas de Variaciones Residenciales elaboradas por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística, destacando sus limitaciones. Los principales resultados señalan que, aunque la emigración marroquí con 137.022 bajas registradas aparece como la más numerosa acorde con su peso, es de menor intensidad que otras si atendemos a las tasas de emigración, siendo especialmente significativo la casi completa inexistencia de población marroquí acogida a programas de retorno voluntario. Además de la juventud de sus protagonistas, se constata la emigración de arrastre de menores, sin que nada podamos aportar sobre su dimensión familiar. A partir del análisis territorial y temporal, es posible deducir la relación con el sector de actividad: que el número de salidas haya ido en descenso desde 2010, parecería explicar el impacto sobre la población ocupada en la construcción. Si bien el retorno propiamente dicho, como en las demás nacionalidades, es superior a cualquier otro tipo de movimiento, en el caso marroquí destaca la emigración a países terceros especialmente entre aquellos que han obtenido la nacionalidad española. El incremento de las nacionalizaciones hace que nos preguntemos si no nos hallamos frente a un fenómeno emergente: la movilidad intraeuropea protagonizada por migrantes y sus descendientes. Abstract: One of the main effects of the current economic crisis in Spain has been its impact on increased emigration of migrants and their descendants. This international migration gathers different types of population movement: return migration, family migration and emigration to third countries. This article deals with the study of emigration from Spain with a special emphasis on the Moroccan population compared to other leading emigration nationalities. For this purpose, micro data files from the Residential Variation Statistics of the National Statistics Institute have been used, which cover emigrations occurred between 2008 (starting year of the crisis) and 2011 (latest data available). The analysis of the data reveals some applications while showing some of its limitations. The main results highlight that the Moroccan emigration is the largest in absolute terms, although it is less intense compared to other groups if we consider emigration rates. Surprisingly, the results appear to be counterintuitive after comparing with the almost complete absence of Moroccans within the voluntary return programmes. In addition to the young profile of migrants, there is also evidence of family emigration, although due to data limitations we cannot reveal much about this dimension. The analysis of emigration at provincial level and over time allows the identification of known relationships between migrant settlements and dominant economic sectors (e.g. construction and agriculture), making particularly visible the decrease of Moroccan emigration since 2010 as a result of their over-representation in the construction sector. While return migration is common among all emigrants, in the case of Moroccan emigration there is also evidence about migration to third countries, particularly among those who have obtained the Spanish nationality. The latter makes wonder whether or not we might be dealing with an emerging phenomenon: intra-European migration by nationalised migrants and their descendants.

Este texto analiza el discurso de los técnicos municipales de inmigración sobre el impacto que la crisis económica y las políticas de ajuste han tenido tanto en la transformación de la demanda como en la gestión de la misma en un contexto –el de Cataluña- marcado por haber adoptado la interculturalidad como discurso normativo. Para tal fin nos servimos de las entrevistas realizadas a 20 técnicos de inmigración y 10 cargos políticos responsables del área de inmigración de sus respectivos municipios seleccionados a partir de una tipología previa sobre la existencia o no de enclaves residenciales, el nivel de segregación y el tamaño del municipio. Sus discursos nos permiten dibujar el entramado de relaciones que los mismos gestores perciben entre su propio trabajo y la población inmigrada, en medio de la recesión y bajo el influjo de un discurso político también cambiante.

This work analyzes the discourse of front-desk immigrationpolicy makers at the local level on the impact of the economiccrisis and the denominated «adjustment policies» on the changesin migrant's demand and management of the same policies.This happens in a specific context –the Catalan one- which hasadopted an Interculturality discourse as a normative discourse.To do this, we analyzed a set of personal interviews with 20 frontdesklocal policy makers in the immigration area and 10 politiciansalso responsible for immigration issues within their municipalities.Municipalities were selected according to a previous typology basedon the presence or not of residential enclaves, the segregation level andthe population size. The topic of regularization of immigrants has occupied a position high on the agenda in Spain and elsewhere. In this paper, we contribute to this particular issue by providing an evaluative case study in Spain using administrative data from the Province of Barcelona from 2005 to 2009, which allows survival analysis, the follow-up of migrants' trajectories after regularization and the examination of the hazard of lapsing back into irregularity. Our analysis reveals critical differences on the effectiveness of two pathways to earned legalization in Spain as a policy: the 2005 Normalisation and the Settlement Program in full operation since 2006.

Ante la inminente desaparición del censo tradicional en España y su sustitución por uno basado principalmente en registros, este trabajo plantea una discusión de las implicaciones y retos que plantea.
Para ello se establece una cartografía de las metodologías censales mundiales y se presenta una genealogía de los cambios recientes en algunos países de la Comisión Económica para Europa de Naciones Unidas (UNECE), subrayando algunos de los debates políticos, sociales y metodológicos suscitados. Finalmente, se sitúa a España en este contexto. Se basa en literatura secundaria, en la revisión de documentos de los institutos de estadística nacionales y de las conferencias de estadísticos europeos.

In 2017, the Indian diaspora was one of the largest in the world. But until the last decade of the twentieth century, due to the limited interest of the successive governments of India, a regular register for the diaspora was not maintained. In the 1990s, accelerated migration under globalization and the growing interests of the Indian government to use it as a source of political and economic power raised the need to quantify the size and demarcate the geopolitical boundaries of the diaspora. Consequently, since 2001, the government of India began collecting data on its diaspora from the countries of destination. This information often suffers from incomplete coverage, conflicting political interests, and methodological nationalism; and provides distorted images of the diaspora. Recently, the emergence of 'UN Global Migration Database' and 'Big Data' creates an opportunity to explore other aspects of the diaspora. The main objectives of this paper are: first, to quantify the size of the diaspora population and demarcate the geopolitical boundaries of the Indian diaspora from the available sources; second, to explore the sociodemographic characteristics and internal diversity of the diaspora population; and finally, to compare the advantages and shortcomings of these data sources.
