This book offers an introduction to structural dynamics, ripple effect and resilience in supply chain disruption risk management for larger audiences. In the management section, without relying heavily on mathematical derivations, the book offers state-of-the-art concepts and methods to tackle supply chain disruption risks and designing resilient supply chains in a simple, predictable format to make it easy to understand for students and professionals with both management and engineering background. In the technical section, the book constitutes structural dynamics control methods for supply chain management. Real-life problems are modelled and solved with the help of mathematical programming, discrete-event simulation, optimal control theory, and fuzzy logic. The book derives practical recommendations for management decision-making with disruption risk in the following areas:How to estimate the impact of possible disruptions on performance in the pro-active stage?How to generate efficient and effective stabilization and recovery policies?When does one failure trigger an adjacent set of failures?Which supply chain structures are particular sensitive to ripple effect?How to measure the disruption risks in the supply chain?

Adoption of carbon regulation mechanisms facilitates an evolution toward green and sustainable supply chains followed by an increased complexity. Through the development and usage of a multi-choice goal programming model solved by an improved algorithm, this article investigates sustainability strategies for carbon regulations mechanisms. We first propose a sustainable logistics model that considers assorted vehicle types and gas emissions involved with product transportation. We then construct a bi-objective model that minimizes total cost as the first objective function and follows environmental considerations in the second one. With our novel robust-heuristic optimization approach, we seek to support the decision-makers in comparison and selection of carbon emission policies in supply chains in complex settings with assorted vehicle types, demand and economic uncertainty. We deploy our model in a case-study to evaluate and analyse two carbon reduction policies, i.e., carbon-tax and cap-and-trade policies. The results demonstrate that our robust-heuristic methodology can efficiently deal with demand and economic uncertainty, especially in large-scale problems. Our findings suggest that governmental incentives for a cap-and-trade policy would be more effective for supply chains in lowering pollution by investing in cleaner technologies and adopting greener practices.

Businesses and governments are becoming increasingly concerned about the resilience of supply chains and calling for their review and stress testing. In this conceptual essay, we theorize a human-centred ecosystem viability perspective that spans the dimensions of resilience and sustainability and can be used as guidance for the conceptualization of supply chain resilience analysis in the presence of long-term crises. Subsequently, we turn to the technological level and present the digital supply chain twin as a contemporary instrument for stress testing supply chain resilience. We provide some implementation guidelines and emphasize that although resilience assessment of individual supply chains is important and critical for firms, viability analysis of intertwined supply networks and ecosystems represents a novel and impactful research perspective. One of the major outcomes of this essay is the conceptualization of a human-centred ecosystem viability perspective on supply chain resilience.

The article is analyzing fragmentation and integration waves in sociology development. The first integrative wave was in the 1920s – 1950s. It appeared in grand theories by P. Sorokin, T. Parsons, the Frankfurt school uniting heterogeneous ideas from classics in models of society as system. After the paradigm crisis of the 1960s-70s and following spread of postmodernist discourse, the second integrative wave arose in form of theories overcoming gaps between concepts of determinist structures and constructivist agency (J. Habermas, A. Giddens, P. Bourdieu) as well as in form of metatheorizing (G. Ritzer, P. Sztompka, J. Alexander). Today's fragmentation of sociology under conditions of metaparadigm crisis and post-globalization is provoked by the rising postcolonial discourse, by attempts to stigmatize western classics and to create theoretical alternatives to the 'global North' domination in knowledge production as well as by conceptions opposing social reality of networks and flows to classical sociality of structures and agency. The third integrative wave is expected to come in the 2020s displacing tendencies of disintegration, discrimination, growing gaps and rising barriers. New theories are relevant as they create a coherent configuration of four types of structures: institutions, interactions, networks, and flows. Concepts of augmented social reality, augmented Modernity, and augmented data are proposed to be solutions for theoretical and methodological integration in sociology.

This article considers the authors' theoretical complex 'cognitive humanitarian semiotics' (ST (synthetic text) - SLP (synthetic lingual personality) - CPP (cognitive-pragmatic program)) as 'growth points' of philological knowledge. This complex is built in the mode of metadisciplinarity, the essence of which is in a deep epistemological substantiation of those interdisciplinary connections that unambiguously point to the internal kinship of outwardly heterogeneous principles that define a complex (hybrid) cultural and linguistic object.Main results: for a deep interpretation of the 'subject-text' in culture, its model analysis is necessary (according to uniform rules on variable material and with variable components). The specifics of SLP is that it allows modeling heterogeneous in terms of discursiveness zones (for example, verbal and behavioral at the same time) culturally significant 'text of the subject in culture' precisely as an individual one. This is possible because its main parameters are determined by the CPP of the SLP of the source subject. The basic CPP of the artist that is directly related to the intentionality of the acts of his consciousness, demonstrates the inseparability of the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, cognitive intentions of the personality and the forms of its creative (life-creating) self-realization, conceptually indexes the entire synthetic text space and sets the analytical-interpretative / reinterpretative vectors of its perception and self-perception. The creativity of a real artist in the aspect of the CPP appears, on the one hand, as a purposeful developing system (otherwise, the emergence and evolution of a recognizable author's artistic world and poetics, style formation, etc., is impossible), on the other hand, as an 'open system' that constantly 'finds itself' under all transformations. The literary projection of the SLP allows us to give a 'deep' (cognitive-discursive), rather than an external description of many processes of the sociocultural 'field of literature' and - deepened to the analysis of the CPP - the leading strategy of the author-creator, in fact, the 'basic law' of his creative (life-creating) path. The CPP determines the patterns of the culture of the Fate of the Myth-Creating Poet, which has become a precedent text, or any other stable form of 'non-standard discursiveness'.
