Background: Previous studies have delved into the benefits of Kinesio taping (KT) in patients with neck pain. However, the conclusions of these researches have been inconsistent. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the association between the effects of KT and neck pain through a meta-analysis. Material and methods: The PubMed and EBSCO databases were retrieved to collect all publications regarding this association. Inclusion criteria were defined for the eligible studies. Two different analyses were carried out: 1) the comparison between KT and the conventional treatment; 2) the comparison between KT versus placebo KT. Results: Ten studies were analyzed for quantitative analysis, involving 233 patients using KT treatment and 198 control patients. Conclusion: No significant association was found between Kinesio taping in patients with neck pain in neither of the two subgroups studied.
Introduction: Patient satisfaction has emerged as a critical result of care; therefore, focusing on the opinion of users, their needs and expectations from the perspective of perceived quality is of great importance. Objective: To determine the level of satisfaction of the user from a dignifi ed treatment in the areas of occupational therapy and mechanotherapy of the Center of Rehabilitation and Special Education of the State of Tabasco. Material and methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional and prospective study was carried out on patients who came to the area of mechanotherapy and occupational therapy at the Center for Rehabilitation and Special Education of the State of Tabasco, in relation to the satisfaction and dignifi ed treatment received from physiotherapists. The universe consisted of 280 patients; the formula for finite population by proportions was chosen, obtaining a sample of 122 users; a questionnaire of 26 items was implemented. Pearson's chi-square (?2) test was used, accepting a p ? 0.05. Results: 81 were women (66.4%) and 41 were men (33.6%), with ages of 36.3 ± 13.4 years. 81.1% were very satisfi ed with the care received and 76.2% with the waiting time in the areas of Occupational Therapy and Mechanotherapy. Conclusion: The results were good, as 76.2% were satisfied with the time they waited to receive care and 81.1% with the care received from the physiotherapist; only 69.7% considered that the therapist explained in a clear and understandable way.
Drills are an important element of disaster management, helping to increase preparedness and reduce the risk of real‐time failure. Yet, they are not applied systematically to slow‐onset disasters such as a drought, which causes damage that is not instantly apparent and thus does not solicit immediate action. This case study evaluates how drills inform institutional responses to slow‐onset disasters. It spotlights Guatemala, a country where drought has severe impacts on livelihoods and the food security of small farmers. By implementing part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food's institutional response plan for drought, it explores how drills can help to detect issues in emergency response and to foster an institutional focus on improvements in preparedness. The results reveal that drills alone do not trigger institutional improvements if unsupported by a wider strategy that seeks to enhance capacities and protocols. These findings are valuable, however, in making problems transparent and in creating the space for discussion. ; Peer Review
Abstract. A method for detecting seismomagnetic signals is presented. This work presents evidence of geomagnetic perturbations associated with three earthquakes (EQs) that occurred in Mexico within a distance of ρ = (1.8) 100.45M, where M is the magnitude of the EQ, during the year 2010. An improved statistical analysis in relation with the polarization analysis (as the ratio of vertical magnetic field component to the horizontal one) has been developed. The variation index (S4) shows important differences one day before and one day after the EQs (magnitudes considered are from 6 to 7.2).
Abstract. The geomagnetic observatory of Juriquilla Mexico, located at longitude –100.45° and latitude 20.70°, and 1946 m a.s.l., has been operational since June 2004 compiling geomagnetic field measurements with a three component fluxgate magnetometer. In this paper, the results of the analysis of these measurements in relation to important seismic activity in the period of 2007 to 2009 are presented. For this purpose, we used superposed epochs of Discrete Wavelet Transform of filtered signals for the three components of the geomagnetic field during relative seismic calm, and it was compared with seismic events of magnitudes greater than Ms > 5.5, which have occurred in Mexico. The analysed epochs consisted of 18 h of observations for a dataset corresponding to 18 different earthquakes (EQs). The time series were processed for a period of 9 h prior to and 9 h after each seismic event. This data processing was compared with the same number of observations during a seismic calm. The proposed methodology proved to be an efficient tool to detect signals associated with seismic activity, especially when the seismic events occur in a distance (D) from the observatory to the EQ, such that the ratio D/ρ < 1.8 where ρ is the earthquake radius preparation zone. The methodology presented herein shows important anomalies in the Ultra Low Frequency Range (ULF; 0.005–1 Hz), primarily for 0.25 to 0.5 Hz. Furthermore, the time variance (σ2) increases prior to, during and after the seismic event in relation to the coefficient D1 obtained, principally in the Bx (N-S) and By (E-W) geomagnetic components. Therefore, this paper proposes and develops a new methodology to extract the abnormal signals of the geomagnetic anomalies related to different stages of the EQs.
BACKGROUND: Overweight and obesity in children are typically diagnosed using the body mass index (BMI), where the alarming figures are continuously work to resolve. OBJECTIVE: Determine the increase in neck circumference and its association with increased body mass index school from six to 12 years in Tabasco, Mexico. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An observational, analytical, transversal and prospective implementing neck circumference for nutritional assessment in a population of primary school Francisco Gálvez Gálvez in Macuspana, Tabasco, Mexico in October 2015, through a non probabilistic convenience sampling was performed. both sexes, with Mexican nationality, which will have included approval of the tutor. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23® program, using the Student t test, accepting an association of variables with p?0.05. RESULTS: They measure 248 schools, 128 were male (52%) and 120 female (48%) were performed. The circumference of the neck overweight group was 30.9 ± 2.82 cm of finding significant increase in this population compared with suitable 27.63 ± 2.33 weight cm (p = 0.000). CONCLUSIONS: Overweight in school tend to show increased neck circumference compared to those with normal weight.
Esta compilación contiene una muestra del tipo de propuestas y reflexiones sobre temas monetarios que se produjeron en el país durante el primer siglo republicano. Se incluyen proyectos para establecer bancos –tanto públicos como privados–, diagnósticos de los problemas monetarios del país, consideraciones sobre la historia y las instituciones de otros países y su relación con Colombia, además, análisis teóricos acerca del sistema bancario y monetario. Todos estos producidos y divulgados en Colombia.A pesar de la diversidad en los enfoques y en la profundidad del análisis, estos documentos coinciden en mostrar una preocupación permanente a lo largo del siglo por el desarrollo de un sistema financiero que contribuyera al progreso material del país. De igual forma, las discusiones sobre bancos, crédito nacional, moneda y tasa de interés, muestran que en el país existían personajes con conocimientos avanzados sobre teoría monetaria y que conocían la historia monetaria de las grandes potencias comerciales de la época. Estos documentos muestran que, en contra de la idea que impera en la literatura secundaria, el siglo XIX entero fue un terreno fértil para la reflexión sobre temas monetarios. Su estudio es valioso y necesario para la construcción de la historia del pensamiento económico colombiano.

Available on open access from Wiley via the DOI in this record ; Most of the planet's diversity is concentrated in the tropics, which includes many regions undergoing rapid climate change. Yet, while climate-induced biodiversity changes are widely documented elsewhere, few studies have addressed this issue for lowland tropical ecosystems. Here we investigate whether the floristic and functional composition of intact lowland Amazonian forests have been changing by evaluating records from 106 long-term inventory plots spanning 30 years. We analyse three traits that have been hypothesized to respond to different environmental drivers (increase in moisture stress and atmospheric CO2 concentrations): maximum tree size, biogeographic water-deficit affiliation and wood density. Tree communities have become increasingly dominated by large-statured taxa, but to date there has been no detectable change in mean wood density or water deficit affiliation at the community level, despite most forest plots having experienced an intensification of the dry season. However, among newly recruited trees, dry-affiliated genera have become more abundant, while the mortality of wet-affiliated genera has increased in those plots where the dry season has intensified most. Thus, a slow shift to a more dry-affiliated Amazonia is underway, with changes in compositional dynamics (recruits and mortality) consistent with climate-change drivers, but yet to significantly impact whole-community composition. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted routine hospital services globally. This study estimated the total number of adult elective operations that would be cancelled worldwide during the 12 weeks of peak disruption due to COVID-19. Methods: A global expert response study was conducted to elicit projections for the proportion of elective surgery that would be cancelled or postponed during the 12 weeks of peak disruption. A Bayesian β-regression model was used to estimate 12-week cancellation rates for 190 countries. Elective surgical case-mix data, stratified by specialty and indication (surgery for cancer versus benign disease), were determined. This case mix was applied to country-level surgical volumes. The 12-week cancellation rates were then applied to these figures to calculate the total number of cancelled operations. Results: The best estimate was that 28 404 603 operations would be cancelled or postponed during the peak 12 weeks of disruption due to COVID-19 (2 367 050 operations per week). Most would be operations for benign disease (90·2 per cent, 25 638 922 of 28 404 603). The overall 12-week cancellation rate would be 72·3 per cent. Globally, 81·7 per cent of operations for benign conditions (25 638 922 of 31 378 062), 37·7 per cent of cancer operations (2 324 070 of 6 162 311) and 25·4 per cent of elective caesarean sections (441 611 of 1 735 483) would be cancelled or postponed. If countries increased their normal surgical volume by 20 per cent after the pandemic, it would take a median of 45 weeks to clear the backlog of operations resulting from COVID-19 disruption. Conclusion: A very large number of operations will be cancelled or postponed owing to disruption caused by COVID-19. Governments should mitigate against this major burden on patients by developing recovery plans and implementing strategies to restore surgical activity safely.
