; This paper focuses in the Gramscian concept of hegemony and its relationship with the main political concepts of his thought. We face up to the interpretations that place hegemony exclusively in the field of civil society and show the theoretical complexity of the Gramscian concept of State, which integrates dialectically civil society with political society. This reveals the way in which coercion and consensus are articulated in Gramsci?s political thought, as well as the need to dominate the political structures of the State in order to consolidate the hegemony achieved in civil society.

We analyze in this paper the fundamental aspects of the theoretical evolution that the interpretation of Marx's work has undergone from the first currents of thought derived from it to the most recent ones. First we deal with traditional Marxism, its deterministic conception of historical materialism and its historicist interpretation of the theory of value. Then we consider the currents of Western Marxism opposed to the reductionist and economistic conceptions of prevailing Marxist interpretation, and finally we focus on the most recent interpretations of Marxian social theory as a critique of the fetishistic character of the bourgeois consciousness forms and the categories of political economy.

Unlike the economistic understanding of Marxian theory of value and its resulting reduction to the theoretical level of classical political economy, this paper analyzes its essential critical dimension and the fundamental differences that draw it apart from classical theories of value. It emphasizes that the main objective of Marx' theoretical exposition is to show the specific social character of value, which takes place through a complete theoretical redefinition of the economic categories. This makes clear that the Marxian critique of political economy is derived from the exposition of the categories, whereby the social relations that set up the basis of the capitalist system are revealed.

The aim of this investigation is to determine the meaning and function of Marx's dialectical method in his theoretical project of critique of political economy. As opposed to the interpretation trends that have become dominant within Marxism, in which Marxian dialectic has been understood in terms of real dialectic as law of motion of natural and historical processes, or as materialistic translation of the logical categories of Hegel's philosophy, we ...
