Service Learning at a German University: A Case Study

Service learning is hardly known at German universities. In education, the general idea of "giving something back to the community" is not as common as, for example, in the USA. As far as [ known], the third author of the present paper is the only one who has held service-learning courses at a German university. This paper is about how these courses have been organized at Mannheim University since summer 2003, about the experiences of the participants in three of these service-learning courses, and about some of the results of the evaluation.
