On the sexual identities question, different gender views tend to forget a basic Feminist Theory's premise, formulated by Simone de Beauvoir in "The Second Sex": "to be" a woman, a man (like to be a Black, an Arab, a Gipsy, a homosexual, a foreigner) is "to have arrived to be." In the search of possible "de-identification" strategies, against the "amnesia" (oblivion) about the power relations & authoritarian means which rule the constitution of sexually marked identities, the author vindicates the gender "experience" & "remembering" on which gender "historicity" takes roots; the "stories" ("recits") contribution to the recovering of memories & meanings, & its capacity to generate the new.

Examines the relationship between the present & the events of 1968 as one between two historical configurations rather than as a development from one point to another within the same historical process. Ancient & modern conceptions of time are compared, focusing on the Greek notion of chronos vs Walter Benjamin's Jetztzeit, which is closer to the Greek concept of kairos; the former is more quantitative & measured by the clock, the latter more qualitative & descriptive of internal moments. Kenneth Burke's (in Sheard, C. M., 1993) ideas on kairos as political opportunity encompassing the occasion & its historical circumstances are reviewed & related to Luisa Passerini's (2002) ideas on the "utopian strength" of a historical event; Ernest Bloch's notion of "utopian surplus" is deemed of particular relevance to 1968. Contemporary individualism & liberalism cannot be viewed as caused by the radicalism of that period; rather, the present represents a fresh opportunity to realize the unrealized promises of that era. 10 References.
