Challenges to democratization in Brazil

The process of democratization in Brazil and in many other Latin American countries consists of two transitions. The first is the removal of the previous authoritarian regime and the installation of a democratic government. The second is the consolidation of democracy: the foundation of a continuing and stable democratic regime. The article examines challenges to democratization in Brazil with special reference to political institutions, labour relations and social authoritarianism
