Purpose
The purpose of this study is to identify sociodemographic factors that are predictive of the level of everyday sadism (SAD) in the business area.


Design/methodology/approach
A survey was conducted on 424 graduate and postgraduate students from business schools in Brazil and the USA. SAD was quantified by the assessment of sadistic personality proposed by Plouffe Saklofske and Smith (2017). The variables included age, gender, managing experience, education and nationality.


Findings
The average level of SAD was low. SAD was negatively associated with gender, age and nationality and positively associated with managing experience and education.


Practical implications
As individuals ascend professionally and academically, they display higher levels of everyday sadism. Depending on the context, dark personalities can cause either benefit or harm to the company's business and to society. However, the literature shows that seeking pleasure and dominance with no regard for consequences affects the business area directly or indirectly.


Originality/value
Very few studies have addressed everyday sadism in the business area, let alone evaluated predictive factors and discussed possible implications.

Although sociology is a modern discipline, sociologists in Bosnia and Herzegovina must consider distant past and present to tackle the questions of identity, nationality, ethnicity, language and religion. Sociological prominence had gained its focus in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina because of conflict resolution, peace building and overall social transformations and emerging challenges and issues. Such transformation of post-war Bosnian society coupled with a socio-political and economic crisis had opened the door for sociological and anthropological studies and research. Post-war society that eventually aims at a just peace, as Bosnia and Herzegovina where genocide had taken place, cannot without addressing sociological dimensions of war, justice, law and morality. Sociology as a discipline, within the institutional context, has also undergone significant changes and transformations. Using a survey approach, this paper aims to analyze why sociology is significant discipline in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Indeed, it is significant to analyze sociological and institutional transformations and their influence on the creation of new social models related to identity, nationality, religion, language, ethnicity, conflict resolution, war and justice.

AbstractPrevious studies of Asian migrant domestic workers' pre‐migration overseas networks have tended to be ethnographic, small‐n case studies such that it is unclear if network differences between migrants are due to individual‐ or country‐level differences or both. This article draws from an original survey of 1,206 Filipino and Indonesian domestic workers in Singapore and Hong Kong to reveal statistically significant differences in the pre‐migration overseas networks of these two nationality groups even after controlling for migrants' educational attainment, marital status, employment status, age, year of first migration, and survey location. Multiple regression analysis highlights how Filipino respondents are more likely than Indonesian respondents to have known existing migrants prior to their first migration from their homeland. Filipino respondents' overseas networks are also significantly larger, more geographically dispersed, and comprise more white‐collar contacts. These findings open up new terrain for migration scholars to study the impact of these nationality‐based network differences on the two groups' divergent migration experiences and aspirations.

After one year of interruption that followed three years of elections and referendum,Luxembourgish voters were again invited to the polls, this time to select their localrepresentatives. The local elections confirmed the positive trend of the Christian SocialPeople's Party (CSV), continued losses for Luxembourg's Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP)and a stabilization of the other parties. This study aims to know whether there is a significant influence of using inquiry strategy on students' nationality achievement on the topic democracy at the eleventh grade students of SMA negeri 1 Angkola Selatan. The research was conducted by using experimental method with 60 students as the sample and they were taken by using total sampling technique. Test and observation were used in collecting the data. Based on descriptive analyzes, it could be found that a) the average of using inquiry strategy was 64,67and (b) the average of students' democracy achievement before using inquiry strategy was 64.67 (enough category) and after using inquiry strategy was 73.67 (good category). Furthermore, based on inferential statistic by using ttestone tail, the result showed that ttable was less than tobserved (1.68< 2.19), it means, there is a significant influence of using inquiry strategy on students' nationality achievement on the topic democracy at the eleventh grade students of SMA negeri 1 Angkola Selatan.

As states increasingly regulate 'mixed' family formation, self-positioning has become central to the lives of migrant spouses, including women. To understand this process, the present article investigates the mothering techniques of Filipino and Thai migrant women in Belgium, that is, the decisions, actions and ways of being they consciously enact in response to state policies 'here' and/or 'there' to secure the mother–child bond in space and time. Interviews and observations reveal these women's main techniques: obtaining Belgian nationality for themselves, prioritising a single nationality (Belgian) for their children and staying at home (in the case of Filipino migrant women) or working (in the case of Thai women). This self-positioning sets these women's own path and prepare their children's route towards full, active membership in the nation. Mothering appears therefore as a fertile site of citizenship, which from afar echoes the public–private divide but in close-up reveals the porosity of such dichotomy. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Looking at how divided states competed against each other in the arena of citizenship since 1949, this research observes a number of common trends. The German and Chinese case studies manifested a shared trend in large part because they faced comparable challenges and responded with similar citizenship strategies in their quest for national legitimacy and diplomatic recognition. The policy effectiveness depended on the intensity of inter-state rivalry, the Cold War diplomacy, and the global nationality trends. The tight bipolar system and the strong international cooperation on nationality in Europe (among the socialist and non-socialist blocs) explain why both German states were in more favourable circumstances in asserting their citizenship claim. These two aspects are missing in the Asian context, which explain the absence of the role of the international community in legitimising or supporting the Chinese citizenship rivalry. This paper concludes that citizenship policies in the two German states were shaped in response to one another. As compared to the German case, the Chinese and Taiwanese policies exhibited a more pragmatic and independent character.

Abstract
Apart from their mother tongue, most Ersu people can speak their two neighboring languages, Mandarin and the Nuosu Yi language, fluently. Therefore, the Ersu people have three languages. In the beginning of the 1980s, two ethnic identities among the Ersu people emerged. Some of them recognize themselves as being of Tibetan nationality, while others requested to be recognized as a distinct minzu (nationality or ethnic group). The writing system used by the Ersu people played an essential role in the dispute. The Tibetan canons used by the religious practitioners of the Ersu people, Shuvuer, strengthened the Ersu people's identification with the Tibetans, while the Shaaba hieroglyph used by another type of religious practitioners of the Ersu people, Shaaba, stressed the uniqueness of the Ersu culture. Focusing on the use of the two writing systems of the Ersu people, this paper offers an analysis of this kind of ethnic dispute which is based on "subjective identification" and "imagined communities" from the perspective of reconstructionist ethnic theory in anthropology.

AbstractThis article explores the potential for linking immigration research with racial formation theory to examine contemporary immigrant identities. The current literature is dominated by three paradigms (ethnicity, nationalism, and transnationalism) and five theoretical perspectives on immigrant identities (plain American, hyphenated American, panethnic American, nationality origin, and transnational). They are all flawed in their reductions of race to the concepts of ethnicity, nationality, and transnationality. Based on my reading of the existing research, I will argue that immigration researchers can benefit from using racial formation theory to explore immigrant identity due to its acknowledgment of the autonomous power of race. However, racial formation theory has been correctly challenged due to its high level of abstraction and lack of micro‐level analyses. Certain transnational migration studies have underscored the necessity to integrate national origin into racial formation theoretical frameworks. According to this transnational perspective, my conclusion is that immigrant families represent a logical starting point for conceptualizing the relationship between immigration and racial formation.

AbstractIn eco‐national discourses, animals and other nonhumans are represented as national through their position as native breeds or species. In this article, we investigate the definition of the animal as a representative of a 'national breed' and its support to nation‐building. This article is a case‐study of the contemporary representation of the Finnhorse as a 'national breed' in the context of Finnish discourses of national identity. The materials analysed consist of documents and reports seeking to develop and 'rebrand' the Finnhorse, as well as the representation of the breed in contemporary Finnish popular music and culture. The materials are analysed using discourse analysis. According to the study, nationality is a central part of the representation of the Finnhorse, and nature is an essential element in defining the animal as native, therefore claiming its nationality to be natural. The Finnhorse is often also portrayed in the context of nostalgia. In the new contexts of contemporary equine activities, the horse is also provided with a role in rural development.

This paper deals with the problematic identity of the Arab male fans of Bnei Sakhnin F.C., which is an Arab soccer club in the city of Sakhnin, Israel. Seemingly, the Bnei Sakhnin F.C. male fan identifies with his club for the same reasons as every other football fan in Israel. However, as an Arab and minority in a state that is in continuous strife with his people – the Palestinians – his fandom and hence his identity as a fan is inevitably affected. The Arab fan of Bnei Sakhnin cannot rest his identity on the club alone. The Arabs' status in Israel, which is imported to the football stadium, stems from identity being heavily connected to ethnicity/nationality. In essential ways, the Arab male fan cannot separate his identity with the club from his ethnicity/nationality. He is foremost an Arab and then a football fan. Consequently, the football league becomes a constant dilemma of identification by posing the question of "Who are we?"

The subject of the paper titled: "Polish minority and its position in the Ukrainian national structure" is aimed at showing – mainly the quantity- the position of Polish minority in Ukraine against other nationalities constituting the contemporary Ukrainian nation. A particular attention has been paid to the diminishing tendency among people, who declare Polish identity – out of 363 000 in 1959, up to 220 000 in 1989. This phenomenon deserves to be particularly emphasized, because other nationalities – apart from the Jews, whose number decreased even more than the Poles – increased their population or it remained on the same level. The Polish political transformation in 1989 influenced the level of its citizens' national identity, who were in "Identical trance. The situation is completely different in Ukraine. In 1989 about 220 000 of Ukrainian citizens declared Polish nationality and the number decreased during the next two years. This alarming situation signalizes the irreversible process happening in Ukraine, lower and lower number of nationals believes that there is no use in maintaining Polish nationality.

Article is devoted to cross-border insurance contracts through the signs of foreign trade transactions, developed in the doctrine of private international law. Separation of the cross-border insurance contracts, as well as disclosure the signs of foreign trade transactions significant for the insurance contract, allowed the author to come to the conclusion that the commercial nature of the contract is the main feature of the cross-border insurance contract as foreign trade transaction. The author found that russian legislation and international agreements use different nationality of the parties of the cross-border insurance contracts, which based on the place of incorporation or the place of control, as a sign of foreign trade nature of the contract. In the case of the cross-border insurance contract concluded between the parties of the same nationality, but the object of the contract is abroad, or cross the border, such contract should also be recognized as a foreign trade transaction.
