Generell gibt es zwei Kriterien, um die Angemessenheit einer jeden Methode zu beurteilen, unabhängig davon, ob das Verfahren quantitativer oder qualitativer Natur ist. So sollte ein geschätzter Zusammenhang zum einen unverzerrt sein, was sich auch als Erwartungstreue oder Absenz eines Bias bezeichnen lässt. Zum anderen sollten die Resultate, die ein Verfahren bei Replikationen erbringt, eine geringe Varianz aufweisen und somit "effizient" sein. Der Übersichtsartikel zu quantitativen Methoden im Rahmen des Handbuchs der Internationalen Politik verdeutlich zunächst diese beiden Kriterien der "Effizienz" und "Erwartungstreue". Der Beitrag zeigt typische Probleme der Datenanalyse anhand von Beispielen aus dem Bereich der internationalen Politik auf. Anschließend geht der Beitrag auf den aktuellen Forschungsstand sowie auf einige der zentralen Herausforderungen und neueren Entwicklungen ein, die zur Zeit im Bereich der Methoden diskutiert werden. Seit einigen Jahren werden bei Fusionskontrollverfahren international verstärkt neue Methoden der quantitativen ökonomischen Analyse angewandt. Mit diesen Verfahren können neue Argumente Einzug in Fusionskontrollentscheidungen erhalten und traditionelle Ansätze der Fusionskontrolle bereichern. Dabei basieren die Verfahren verstärkt auf betriebs- und volkswirtschaftlichen Daten und Methoden. Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt daher diese neuen Methoden, den UPP-Test, den GUPPI-Test, den IPR-Test und Merger-Simulationsverfahren vor und erläutert ihre Eignung für Fusionskontrollentscheidungen. Dabei wird ein Vergleich der Verfahren hinsichtlich ihrer Einsetzbarkeit vorgenommen. Schließlich werden bisherige Anwendungsfälle vorgestellt.
In recent years innovative quantitative methods were introduced in international merger control procedures, giving rise to a stronger focus on economic theory and managerial data. Therefore, in this article these new methods, the UPP-Test, the GUPPI-Test, the IPR-Test and merger simulations are discussed and evaluated. One particular focus of this analysis is the suitability of these tests given the restrictions of typical merger control procedures.

Jahrhundert, die quantitative Inhaltsanalyse am Beispiel der handelspolitischen Petitionen an die Frankfurter Nationalversammlung und die quantitative Analyse innerstaedtischer Standortmuster mit Hilfe stochastischer Modelle bilden die jeweiligen thematischen und methodischen Schwerpunkte.
