Die Stadtbevölkerung Indonesiens wächst unaufhaltsam. Gegen Ende dieses Jahrhunderts wird sich ihre Zahl auf fast 40 Millionen Menschen belaufen. Dargestellt werden Ursachen, Probleme und Auswirkungen von Migration, Städtewachstum und Landflucht, die bevölkerungs- und wirtschaftspolitischen Maßnahmen der Regierung sowie Möglichkeiten, auf die Wanderungsbewegungen Einfluß zu nehmen.
