Sexist treatment of women's issues by Black and New Left activists sparked the creation of radical feminism. Looks at feminism's critique of the research methods, related methodology and underpinning conceptual assumptions of political science. Argues that, if nothing else, the feminist critique has highlighted the arbitrariness and unacknowledged partiality of the traditional framework. (SJK)

UK regulation discourages corporate political donations but is relatively benign in respect of individual donations. Few UK listed companies make political donations but many more company directors do. We use a unique, hand-collected dataset of political donations to examine whether UK corporate political connections are perceived as being created indirectly via directors' personal donations. Basing our tests on the sensitivity of company returns to opinion polls preceding the 2010 General Election we find evidence that, for firms within a set of industries which donate only to the Conservative Party, employing a donating director is associated with a higher sensitivity to the electoral success of the Conservatives. The small sample size means that this evidence must be seen as no more than suggestive. We justify basing our inferences on return sensitivity to polls by confirming that UK domestic political risk, as proxied by opinion poll changes, is priced around General Elections.

An attempt is made to show how American political science has dealt with women as an object of study, & to explain why the discipline has dealt with women as it has. American political science before & after the advent of behaviorism is analyzed, attempting to show how the questions asked, the phenomena considered deserving of political analysis, & the tools of the trade led to considerable, although not complete, ignoring of women as political beings. Much of the facile dismissal of women as nonpolitical beings stems from the nature of the questions asked, from assumptions concerning what sorts of phenomena are "political," & from kinds of methodologies adopted for research rather than from the nature of women's political behavior itself. An assessment of the impact of the contemporary women's movement on the study of women's political behavior is presented. AA.

The work of Jacques Lacan is second only to Freud in its impact on psychoanalysis. Yannis Stavrakakis clearly examines Lacan's challenging views on time, history, language, alterity, desire and sexuality from a political standpoint. It is the first book to provide an overview of the social and political implications of Lacan's work as a whole for students coming to Lacan for the first time. The first part of Lacan and the Political offers a straightforward and systematic assessment of the importance of Lacan's categories and theoretical constructions for concrete political analysis. The second
