Immigration is growing in areas that have not previously experienced immigrant populations. This trend, coupled with requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), introduces new challenges to school districts across the country to comply with legislation to serve the growing population of Limited English Proficient (LEP) students. As stated in policy note (31-2005), the LEP student growth rate in Missouri has been steady over the past twenty years, with high growth in the past five years. The 2004-05 Missouri LEP Census counted 97 languages of LEP students, which include the top ten languages of: Spanish, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Farsi, French and African Tribal. The diversity of languages represents the diversity of students in the classroom, which creates a challenge for instructors to teach students with different language backgrounds. ; Includes bibliographical references

There were influence of the experience but no of the speciality on the relation of the supervisor, tutor and reflexive actions.

Research suggests that teenage childbearing adversely affects both the outcomes of the mothers as well as those of their children. We know that low-educated women are more likely to have a teenage birth, but does this imply that policies that increase educational attainment reduce early fertility? This paper investigates whether increasing mandatory educational attainment through compulsory schooling legislation encourages women to delay childbearing. We use variation induced by changes in compulsory schooling laws in both the United States and Norway to estimate the effect in two very different institutional environments. We find evidence that increased compulsory schooling does in fact reduce the incidence of teenage childbearing in both the United States and Norway, and these results are quite robust to various specification checks. Somewhat surprisingly, we also find that the magnitude of these effects is quite similar in the two countries. These results suggest that legislation aimed at improving educational outcomes may have spillover effects onto the fertility decisions of teenagers.
Testimony issued by the General Accounting Office with an abstract that begins "Since September 2003, widespread allegations of abusive practices involving mutual funds have come to light. An abuse called late trading allowed some investors, at times in collusion with pension plan intermediary, broker-dealer, or fund adviser staff, to profit at other investors' expense by submitting orders for fund shares to receive that day's price after the legal cutoff. Other investors were allowed to conduct market timing trades to take advantage of stale prices used by funds to calculate their net asset values at funds with stated policies against such trading. SEC and other regulators have responded with numerous proposals for new or revised practices. Based on a body of work that GAO has conducted involving mutual funds, GAO analyzed and provides views on proposed and final rules involving (1) fund pricing and compliance practices intended to address various mutual fund trading abuses that have come to light recently, (2) fund boards' independence and effectiveness, (3) fund adviser compensation of broker-dealers that sell fund shares, and (4) additional actions regulators could take to further improve transparency and investor understanding of the fees they pay."

Objective. Critics of schools governed by fundamentalist religions are concerned that these schools will not socialize students to the attitudes & values appropriate for citizens of a pluralistic liberal democracy. Among these values are support for democratic norms, political tolerance, moral reasoning & autonomy, duty to community, & acceptance of nontraditional lifestyles. This article examines the empirical basis for the critics' concerns. Methods. Using difference-of-means tests & multivariate regression, we compare students in the 10th & 12th grades attending regular public & fundamentalist Christian schools. Results. The 10th-grade comparisons of the two sets of students confirm many of the expectations of critics of fundamentalist schools. By the 12th grade, however, the students in fundamentalist schools have surpassed students in regular public schools on many of the desired attitudes & values, but the fundamentalist school students remain less accepting of nontraditional lifestyles. Conclusion. For the most part, fundamentalist Christian high schools do as well or better than regular public schools in socializing their students to the values appropriate to citizenship in liberal democracies. 5 Tables, 1 Appendix, 30 References. Objective. To evaluate whether Catholic high school attendance, relative to public high school attendance, affects the quality of four-year college that students attend. Methods. We use quantile regression, which allows the relationship between Catholic high school attendance & college quality to vary along the conditional college quality distribution. Results. We find the relationship between Catholic high school attendance & college quality is larger & more significant at the top half of the conditional college quality distribution than at the bottom half. Conclusions. An understanding of the potential benefits of Catholic schooling is essential to an informed debate about school-choice programs such as educational vouchers. One potential benefit associated with Catholic schooling is matriculation at more selective colleges & universities. We find some evidence that such a benefit exists. 3 Tables, 50 References.
