In Spoiling the Stories, Tamar Merin presents the as yet untold story of the rise of prose by Israeli women, while further exploring and expanding the gendered models of literary influence in modern Hebrew literature. The theoretical idea upon which this book is based is that of intersexual dialogue, a term that refers to the various literary strategies employed by Israeli female fiction writers expressing their voice within a male-dominated and (still) inherently Oedipal literary tradition. Spoiling the Stories focuses on intersexual dialogue as it evolved in the first three decades after the establishment of the state of Israel in the works of Yehudit Hendel, Amalia Kahana Carmon, and Rachel Eytan. According to Merin, these three women writers were the most important in the history of modern Hebrew literature: each was a significant participant in the poetic development of her time.

The official entry of Latin America in the bipolar confrontation had given way to a real anti-Communist crusade in the region since the strong popular discontent, due to economic backwardness and political instability, offered the favorable humus to Communist infiltration in the Western Hemisphere. Thus, it was necessary to maintain a U.S. sphere of influence within the southern continent. The possibility, more and more concrete, that the Chilean presidential election of 1970 bring to power an avowed Marxist posed to the U.S. government one of the most serious challenges ever faced in this area. Therefore, concerned at the consequences that the victory of a socialist candidate could have on the American economic and political interests in Chile - in addition to serious geopolitical repercussions throughout the region -, the United States pledged to prevent such an eventuality. So, it was decided to finance a spoiling operation against the Popular Unity, the communists, socialists and left-wing elements coalition who supported Allende. To achieve this objective, the CIA resorted to covert operations and started an intensive propaganda campaign, relying on fear that an eventual victory of Allende was identified with violence and Stalinist repression. Despite these efforts, the U.S. "spoiling campaign" was not successful and the Socialist candidate Salvador Allende won the 1970 presidential election, although by a narrow margin

Discourses about the dangers of spoiling children and images of grandparents came together in nineteenth-century literature, with the literary figure of the spoiling grandmother emerging as familiar cultural currency. From there, it would become a concern for the generation of psychoanalysts after Freud, for whom the grandmother represented a dangerous supplement to the importance of the mother for a child's psychological development. The literary and the psychological uses of the figure of the spoiling grandmother then intersected in scientific and popular guidance for parents in the battle for authority regarding the right way to engage in childcare.

The mineral-rich mountains of Tibet, hitherto largely untouched by China's growing economy, are now to be the site of massive investment in copper, gold, silver, chromium and lithium mining for the world's factory, with devastating environmental and social outcomes. Spoiling Tibet is the first book that investigates mining at the roof of the world - an entirely unique authoritative guide through the torrent of online posts, official propaganda and exile speculation
