The aim of this article is to examine the problem of the concept of equal employment opportunities in the HR recruitment and selection process. Due to the fact that in these processes, both the HR managers and the applicants are involved, this research is conducted separately among them. Thus, it will be determined if both sides share the same opinion with respect to the existence of this concept in the mentioned processes. Providing equal employment opportunities is crucial for any company and represents a key for selecting the real employees. Therefore, the research includes the existence of prejudices in the recruitment and selection process such as discrimination based on national and social origin, gender and sexual orientation, age, political affiliation etc. As an essential part of this concept, the legislation in the Republic of Macedonia and its impact in the process of generating equal opportunities will be considered.

The resource curse literature has necessarily evolved in a rather fragmented way. While economists, political economists and political scientists have largely focused on the role of mineral abundance in long-term growth with the analysis largely confined to the country (macro) or regional (meso) level, anthropologists, sociologists and other social scientists have explored the development impacts of extractive industries at the community (micro) level. While this has provided a rigorous and comprehensive exploration of extractive industries and their impacts, causal factors that bridge and/or leap-frog these levels tend not to be accounted for. In this paper we examine the evolution of the literature across disciplinary lines and different levels of scale to assess the current status of resource curse debates. In so doing, we aim to explore how an integration of the various multi-scale approaches can help address the persistent problem of the resource curse.

Liver fluke, Opisthorchis viverrini, is an important parasite that can cause chronic biliary tract infestation and can further induce a deadly cancer namely cholangiocarcinoma. This infestation is endemic in Southeast Asia, at Mekong River Indochina Region. At this area, there is a very high incidence of cholangiocarcinoma. The prevention of this disease is the present public health policies of the local government. The campaign composing of abstinence from raw fish intake, routine stool examination and mass antiparasitic drug treatment is used. However, the problem is not successful managed. The use of the liver fluke vaccine is the hope for the future successful disease control. There are some recent reports on this aspect. The searching for proper antigenic proteins and epitopes is very interesting. Generally, the search of the egg shell protein of liver fluke can be the first step for further liver fluke vaccine development

Briscoe's grandmother remembered stories about the first white men coming to the Northern Territory. This extraordinary memoir shows us the history of an Aboriginal family who lived under the race laws, practices and policies of Australia in the twentieth century. It tells the story of a people trapped in ideological folly spawned to solve 'the half-caste problem'. It gives life to those generations of Aboriginal people assumed to have no history and whose past labels them only as shadowy figures. Briscoe's enthralling narrative combines his, and his contemporaries, institutional and family life with a high-level career at the heart of the Aboriginal political movement at its most dynamic time. It also documents the road he travelled as a seventeen year old fireman on the South Australia Railways to becoming the first Aboriginal person to achieve a PhD in history.

International mobility of researchers is increasingly constructed both as a science policy problem to be solved and as a goal to be pursued. Yet evidence on the experience of mobility and the factors associated with propensity to mobility remains patchy. We analyse comprehensive survey data on the mobility experience of university and non-university research institute researchers in the EU. Our results both confirm and challenge assertions about mobility made in the literature and in policy debates. We find that 57% of university respondents and 65% of institute respondents have experienced international mobility at least once in their research careers. We find that research visits are the most commonly experienced form of international mobility but that job migration (cross-country changes of employer) is also surprisingly common. International student mobility, and also industrial placement experience, seems to be a good predictor of subsequent mobility during the research career.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MoPE) manages the licencing system for Norwegian wind power. Balancing relevant concerns in this process could be considered as Environmental Policy Integration (EPI) in practical wind power policy. Wind power investments have been limited in Norway, investors have left the market and those remaining are jittery towards making investments. This article argues that the licencing system is partially responsible for this situation; the system has, over time, introduced an extra risk element for investors, challenged their patience and hampered investments. Especially MoPE's handling of appeals has been time consuming and difficult to predict regarding final outcome. The problem is probably lack of common understanding between MoPE and Ministry of Environment (MoE) on how EPI works in practical wind power policy. To speed up investments the pace in the licencing process must be increased and the criteria for balancing relevant interest must be clarified.

This study examines the Malaysia development record in the context of widespread concerns that the country, and others like it, may encounter major difficulties in graduating to the ranks of high-income economies. It stresses the country's rapid socioeconomic development, built on openness, reasonably competent macroeconomic management and attention to equity issues. It then investigates the country's significant slowdown in investment and economic growth since the late 1990s, and asks whether this trend is related to the more general graduation issue. Our principal conclusion is that the slowdown has less to do with the problem of graduation and more to do with a set of country-specific institutional and political economy challenges. Thus, the current concern within the country that it is in some sense 'stuck in the middle' points to the need for a set of major policy reforms to accelerate growth.

Es handelt sich um eine Fußnote aus dem Artikel "Logik, Struktur und Prozess der Qualitätsbeurteilung in Schule und Unterricht", mit dem Heid 2013 in der Zeitschrift für Erziehungswissenschaft eine Kontroverse über Fragen der Qualitätsbeurteilung von Schule und Unterricht ausgelöst hat. Aus logischen Gründen, schreibt Heid (2013, S. 407), müsse man zwischen deskriptiv-explikativen und wertenden Komponenten der Urteilsbildung unterscheiden, aber praktisch hängen beide in der Urteilsbildung zusammen. Wer sich in Qualitätskontroversen auf Tatsachenfeststellungen zurückziehe, "unterstellt" oder "erschleicht" deren (positive oder negative) Bewertung (ebd., S. 409). Aber nicht Differenzen in den Urteilsbildungen seien das Problem, sondern die Verschleierung der darin enthaltenen normativen Entscheidungen. (.) The present study evaluates the consequential economic and ethical problems which occur when bureaucracy is present in companies' projects evaluation by governmental agencies. The delay of projects approval generates loss of value once projects may not be implemented or are implemented after the suitable time. Theory of anti-commons is presented in the contextualization of the problem. As seen in this study, when an "anti-commons" emerges, resources may be prone to under-use. In an anti-commons situation there are too many entities deciding what may lead to the under-use of the resources. In Portugal, bureaucracy in projects approval contributes to such a situation of anti-commons. The present study analyses a project for the construction of an elderly nursing home,for which is necessary a permit to be obtained from the Portuguese government. This study is made according to the framework of the anti-commons theory.

There are several well known measures of the inequality of distribution of goods and burdens. One of them is for example the Gini coefficient. Applicability of such measures is limited when the use of disproportionate allocation was intended. This is the case in the allocation of seats in the European Parliament. The Treaty of Lisbon provides that the distribution is done according to degressive proportionality with the specified minimum and maximum number of seats allocated to the smallest and largest Member State. These two conditions called boundary conditions at the outset determine the deviation from the proportional division. Therefore, there arises a problem of determining the measure of the disproportion of allocation under the given boundary conditions. This article comprises the proposals for such measures and their application for the analysis of the distribution of seats in the European Parliament.

The article deals with the topical issues of administering regional development; the qualitative characteristics of information resources are analyzed, their effectiveness in the system of political engineering is interpreted. Therefore, while solving the above problem it is necessary: first, to examine 'the information field', 'the information space' and its components in the system of political engineering; second, to comprehend cognitively information as a social and administrative resource of state information policy and to fix the state of the information space of the regional administrative development. The article also reveals the key aspects of formation of the information regulation administrative model of managing system of regional development. The authors conclude that the formation and development of a single coherent system of regional information resources is the backbone factor of state information policy aimed at integration of information space. This paper investigates the usage of Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) as an assessment tool for improving teaching and learning English in Malaysian higher education institutions (HEIs). In this study, the Malaysian stakeholders industries, government agencies of Malaysia and HEIs are the interveners who create the best solutions of the problematic situation of poor professional communication skills amongst the graduates. By using SSM, it is anticipated that stakeholders involved would reach a common ground in defining Professional Communication Skills (PCS), which will decrease the problem of skill mismatches. It is discovered thatSSM was able to examine the requirement from all parties by offering them a proper and equal stage to voice out their opinion. It is believed that SSM can help instructors and policy makers of Malaysian HEIs in making a sound judgement in teaching PCS in classrooms, and help to develop our graduates potential to bemore marketable employees.

Many variables crucial to the social sciences are not directly observed but instead are latent and measured indirectly. When an external variable of interest affects this measurement, estimates of its relationship with the latent variable will then be biased. Such violations of "measurement invariance" may, for example, confound true differences across countries in postmaterialism with measurement differences. To deal with this problem, researchers commonly aim at "partial measurement invariance" that is, to account for those differences that may be present and important. To evaluate this importance directly through sensitivity analysis, the "EPC-interest" was recently introduced for continuous data. However, latent variable models in the social sciences often use categorical data. The current paper therefore extends the EPC-interest to latent variable models for categorical data and demonstrates its use in example analyses of U.S. Senate votes as well as respondent rankings of postmaterialism values in the World Values Study.
