Understanding its role because it affects individual, social organizational, and social development and functions. Based on the strong practical, philosophical, pedagogical-methodological and theoretical ideas and proposals put forward by our scientists, it is essentially the answer to this extremely rich scientific development in scientific literacy. By supporting action-oriented and problem-based curricula as a key to updating and activating scientific literacy to enhance student performance and national competitiveness in the global economy, the scientific literature provides a strong foundation for updating and transforming science education not only in perspective and approach. Not only that, but the main way of teaching is to study some of his ideas on strategies for solving socio-economic-scientific problems, such as the study of science-education-production cooperation.

The need for a new profession devoted to environmental matters is asserted. The qualities of such a profession are sketched, and it is argued that new initiatives in environmental education are needed in the form of graduate, professional programs with primary emphasis on practice. An example 2-year program is presented. A fundamental requirement is scientific competence; undergraduate preparation in the sciences or engineering is mandatory. The graduate curriculum itself is built on three primary cores: environmental science and engineering, business and management, and public policy. Additionally, an environmental round table is proposed as a focal point for academic, industrial, governmental, and public discussion on environmental matters. The round table would provide oversight for the professional educational program and an affiliated research institute.

Although education was an issue of major concern to voters in the lead-up to the 1993 election, and political parties responded with a variety of policy proposals, there was a noticeable reticence for further state funding of education. By international standards, tax levels are low in New Zealand, as is participation by tertiary standards. But whether increases in Vote: Education are the best use of further tax dollars depends on philosophical stances as to the nature of education. The human capital school argue for increased fees, whilst those who regard education as a right have to realise that quality may suffer if the state is the sole funder. Provision and policy development based in Iwi and Maori worlds are not covered.
