In today's society, public opinion plays a large role in the adoption of various legal measures and regulations, including those related to the field of bioethics. This is why experts have a duty to inform the public in a timely and accurate manner, and it is up to educators to educate new generations to become responsible citizens who can make informed decisions. A few years ago, attempts were made to implement a project of health education and then one of civic education in schools. Those curricula predict the student will develop human, political, social, cultural, economic and environmental competences as a citizen of the class, school and local community. A spiral development model of introduction by educational cycles is envisaged, starting from the 1st grade of primary school. However, civic education is also addressed by the national curriculum for early and preschool education, which anticipates development of social and civic competences in children of this age. Bioethics and environmental issues are still not sufficiently transparent to the public. This is why proper environmental education from preschool age is very important. In preschool education, the proper approach is essential, and contemporary pedagogy emphasizes the importance of learning through play. The artistic fields are imposed as an ideal framework in which various contents can be accommodated. A drama music workshop that will help children develop awareness of various issues through play is, therefore, an ideal training ground for educating a responsible and informed citizen. One such drama music workshop was organized for the purpose of demonstration on the occasion of the First Osijek Days of Bioethics. The story used in the workshop is from a picture book by Aleix Cabrera and Rosa M. Curto: Niko and nutrition. Through the play and the story, the importance of proper nutrition was emphasized to children and made them aware that it is necessary to know what they actually eat and where and how food comes from. This paper uses the workshop as a starting point when discussing the role of artistic fields and educators in creating a responsible and informed citizen in fields of bioethics and environmental issues and the importance of early and preschool education in the process. ; U današnjem društvu javno mnijenje igra veliku ulogu u donošenju različitih zakonskih mjera i regulativa, pa tako i onih vezanih za područje bioetike. Zbog toga stručnjaci imaju obavezu pravovremenog i točnog informiranja javnosti, a na pedagozima je da odgoje nove generacije kako bi postali odgovorni građani koji mogu donositi informirane odluke. U školstvu se prije par godina pokušao provesti projekt zdravstvenog odgoja, a zatim i građanskog odgoja i obrazovanja. Tim kurikulumom predviđeno je da učenik kao građanin razredne, školske i lokalne zajednice razvije ljudskopravne, političke, društvene, kulturne, gospodarske i ekološke kompetencije. Predviđen je spiralno-razvojni model uvođenja po obrazovnim ciklusima, počevši od 1. razreda osnovne škole. No, građanskim odgojem ipak se bavi i nacionalni kurikulum za rani i predškolski odgoj koji predviđa razvoj socijalnih i građanskih kompetencija u djece rane i predškolske dobi. Problematika bioetike i okoliša još je uvijek nedovoljno transparentna u javnosti. Zbog toga je pravilan ekološki odgoj od predškolske dobi vrlo važan. Pri odgoju i obrazovanju u predškolskoj dobi bitan je pravilan pristup, a suvremena pedagogija naglašava važnost učenja kroz igru. Umjetnička područja nameću se kao idealan okvir u koji možemo smjestiti različite sadržaje. Dramsko glazbena radionica kojom će se djeci kroz igru razviti svijest o različitim problematikama predstavlja stoga idealan poligon za odgoj i obrazovanje odgovornog i informiranog građanina. Za potrebe demonstracije povodom Prvih osječkih dana bioetike organizirana je jedna takva dramsko glazbena radionica. Priča koja se koristila u radionici je iz slikovnice Aleix Cabrere i Rose M. Curto: Niko i prehrana. Njome se kroz igru i priču djeci naglasilo važnost pravilne prehrane i osvijestilo potrebu za time da znaju što zapravo jedu te odakle i na koji način dolazi hrana. Ovaj rad koristi održanu radionicu kao polaznu točku pri diskusiji o ulozi umjetničkih područja i pedagoga u stvaranju odgovornog i informiranog građanina u temama bioetike i zaštite okoliša te važnosti ranog i predškolskog odgoja u tom procesu.

Building on recent efforts to bridge the elites/events dichotomy in the wartime opinion literature, we test the explanatory power of, and offer a theoretical extension to, the elasticity of reality hypothesis using the case of British support for the war in Afghanistan from 2001 through 2010. Marshaling an array of aggregate, individual-level and experimental survey data, as well as an original database of 2677 content-coded newspaper articles, we find evidence that the unshaken elite consensus behind the Afghan campaign failed to sustain strong support for war, even among the most politically engaged segments of the British public. However, we do find evidence that elites retained a measure of influence over citizens' prospective attitudes about the war's future conduct, even as they were unable to influence more general and retrospective assessments of Britain's involvement in the conflict. In stark contrast to theories of elite opinion leadership, a cross-partisan elite consensus failed to maintain strong public support among Britons for the war in Afghanistan. We argue that elites are better able to influence the public's prospective policy preferences for war, even when they cannot shape the public's retrospective assessments. Analyses of aggregate and individual-level public opinion data are consistent with our argument. An original survey experiment confirms the capacity of British elites to influence public's willingness to stay the course in Afghanistan.

Scholars of contentious politics expect that social movement organizations (SMOs) are valued according to their ability to craft resonant frames or to enact displays of worthiness. We offer an alternative, relational perspective highlighting the critical role of authenticity in shaping an SMO's perceived value. Unlike frames and intentional displays, calculated efforts to proclaim authenticity often backfire. We distill two orthogonal types: grassroots (in)authenticity, based on idealized notions of civil society, and institutional (in)authenticity, rooted in culturalcognitive schemas used to judge fit with established SMO categories. Grassroots authenticity benefits an SMO's fundamental legitimacy, while lacking it entirely (i.e., "astroturfing") severely harms public support. Institutional authenticity increases resources and survival chances, intelligibility to elite observers, and clarity of collective identities; still, lacking this (via hybridity) may assist in recruitment and outreach. We build propositions that elaborate these expectations and argue that authenticity should become a more central concept in social movement research.

This article deals with the discussion and set an explaining value of the findings of the public opinion survey related to the American countries' Armed Forces, based on the results of the 2104' survey, but also considering the 2012 results, both carried out by the Vanderbilt University – with the support of the United States Agency for International Development – through the Latin America Public Opinion Project (LAPOP). The aim is to value the perception of confidence and its implications, study how the efficiency is valued and what is the general thought regarding the employment of the armed forces fi fighting organized crime and violence. At the same time, it analyses the results about the general society confidence of the Latin-American countries regarding the United States Armed Forces and its will to use them in a cooperative way with the Armed Forces of these countries in order to improve the security levels. ; El presente artículo está centrado en comentar y dar un valor explicativo a los resultados de la encuesta de opinión pública, referidos a las Fuerzas Armadas de los países americanos, sobre la base del trabajo realizado por la Vanderbilt University –con el apoyo de la United States Agency for International Development– a través de la encuesta LAPOP de los años 2014 y 2012. Se busca analizar la percepción sobre la confianza en las Fuerzas Armadas y sus implicancias, estudiar la estimación que se tiene sobre la eficiencia de los medios militares en cuanto a organización y entrenamiento, así como interpretar la opinión pública respecto al empleo de fuerzas militares en tareas para combatir al crimen organizado y a la violencia. Del mismo modo, se analizan los resultados acerca de la confianza de las sociedades de los países latinoamericanos en las Fuerzas Armadas de los Estados Unidos y la voluntad para que estas últimas cooperen con las Fuerzas Armadas de los respectivos países para mejorar los niveles de seguridad.

Data from the 1990 & 1992 International Social Survey Program on the role of government & social inequality in postindustrial societies are drawn on to examine the relationship between labor force status & political attitudes regarding welfare among citizens of 4 welfare states -- Australia, West Germany, Norway, & the US. Each state is categorized according to the typology developed by Gosta Esping-Anderson (1990), & the functioning of each welfare regime is compared. Specific attitudes of the general public in each toward inequality, egalitarianism, redistribution, & the government's role are explored, comparing the opinions of "insiders" (the employed) with "outsiders" (the unemployed). It is found that attitudinal differences between these labor force groups differ by welfare state regime, & diminish if social class is controlled. Lab grown meat is a new technology being developed as a potential alternative protein source. Although some research has been done about public perception of lab grown meat, no studies to date have observed the effects of message themes on public perception of lab grown meat. The study sought to better understand measures of uncertainty and risk and benefit perceptions after viewing a themed blog post about lab grown meat. Participants were randomly assigned one of three themed blog posts - against lab grown meat, neutral, or support lab grown meat. Perception questions were asked after viewing the blog post, and a total of 238 responses were collected. Results indicated the message theme had a statistically significant effect on risk perception, benefit perception, and intention to consume, but not on message evaluation or measures of uncertainty. Further discussion as well as suggestions for future research are included.

Blogs play an important role in political communication and in forming the opinions of political actors and politically interested users. Their ability to facilitate active interaction, present opinions, mobilize voters, and thereby, influence public opinion and eventually election outcomes makes political blogs an interesting research subject. Thus, this article draws upon a qualitative content analysis to reveal the readers' motivations and main themes to post comments and get involved in the discussions on political blogs. We analyze 12 blog discussions (500 pages) in eight left-leaning German political blogs and use qualitative content analysis to develop a category scheme comprising of 3,868 codings. We find that social interaction with other blog users is the main motive for blogging on German political blogs together with the desire for the exchange of further information and analysis, and the expression of the own opinion concerning the subject. Moreover, we classify 191 users by their motivations for blogging using cluster analysis and identify the bloggers' different communication roles. By providing insight into the users' political discussions, motives for participation, and communication roles, we clarify the role that political blogs play in the process of forming political opinion and derive implications for politics.

To support the European integration process the candidate countries for accession to the European Union developed communication strategies and carried out large-scale nationwide communication campaigns, directed at the public and its interests. Since the decisions on accession to the EU were taken at national referenda, there was an urgent need to inform and convince people of the benefits and inevitability of European integration. In the context of Ukraine's European integration aspirations the experience of the states of the former Soviet camp, including Eastern European countries (Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland), seems to be very interesting. The said states sought to demonstrate their departure from dependence on the East (the former USSR and Russia) and the orientation to the West (the EU). The article suggests the positive practices that could be used for the communication campaign in Ukraine, which would be focused on communication with citizens on European integration. ; Для поддержки евроинтеграционного процесса государства-кандидаты на вступление в Европейский Союз разрабатывали коммуникационные стратегии и проводили широкомасштабные общенациональные кампании, в поле зрения которых была общественность и ее интересы. Поскольку решения о вступлении в ЕС принимались на общенациональных референдумах, то и возникла насущная необходимость информировать и убедить граждан в преимуществах и неотвратимости европейской интеграции. В контексте евроинтеграционных стремлений Украины особенно интересен опыт стран бывшего советского лагеря, в том числе стран Восточной Европы (Венгрии, Чехии, Словакии, Польши), которые стремились продемонстрировать свой уход от зависимости от Востока (бывшего СССР и России) и ориентацию на Запад (Европейский Союз). To support the European integration process the candidate countries for accession to the European Union developed communication strategies and carried out large-scale nationwide communication campaigns, directed at the public and its interests.
