A pioneer in many respects, Otto Neurath made contributions in the areas of socialist politics, political economy, the theory of science, sociology and social philosophy. However, especially innovative were his revolutionary ideas about communication based on investigating the role of media in the making of modern man – as social technology for achieving socialist objectives. Within the context of his "Wissenschaftliche Weltauffassung" (Scientific Conception of the World – The Vienna Circle) he claimed a new form of encyclopedic integration of knowledge. Insisting on the need for for absolute clarity of expression, he developed a new form of scientific expression to help achieve this, an "International Picture Language". It was based on a new pictographic design system: ISOTYPE, an acronym for "International System Of Typographic Picture Education".

In the course of the research the experience of studying the integration process gained by the authors is presented. The work reveals levels, steps, features of the integrational processes in the field of vocational education.

A paper describes challenges of globalization, Europeanization and new governance towards institution of public administration body (in the fi elds of law and public management). An author mentions basic assumptions of modern public governance and main, significant elements of processes of globalization and Europeanization. It is necessary to consider the legal institution of public administration body (especially in administrative law and science of administration). The paper describes current problems of mentioned topic (such as varied kinds of development and progress – especially connected with information society). The author suggests to appreciate the complex of global values. Finally he describes the aftermentioned phenomenons not only as threats, but also as opportunities. The author recomended to use their to a better development.

Building upon the idea of a psychology without foundations and on vitalist approaches to health, the paper presents the concepts of 'joy' and of 'gay science' as theoretical points of contrast to Seligman's 'happiness' and 'positive psychology'. Defined by Spinoza and Nietzsche as the feeling of becoming more active in the world, joy emphasises the embodied connection between self and world. By contrast, we propose, a defining characteristic of the contemporary happiness dispositif is precisely the feature of splitting the subject from their world; of treating feelings and desires as purely internal, individual and subjective affairs; and of effectively cutting people off from any of their powers that do not correspond to a limited mode of entrepeneurial subjectivity and practice.

AbstractThe Global Development Network (GDN) and the Researchers Alliance for Development (RAD) are networks linking the professional ecology of the World Bank to the diverse research ecologies of universities and think‐tanks. These 'knowledge networks' can entangle research environments extensively with policy communities and the institutional interests of powerful organizations. Connecting different professional ecologies via networks creates complex sets of relationships between researchers and policy makers. The 'grey areas' of professional overlap highlight the 'co‐production' of (social) science in development policy. The author based her analysis of the dual dynamics of network autonomy and co‐option on participant observation of GDN and RAD as a past member of the governing bodies of both networks.

Narrative research. An introduction of characteristics and challenges of a rapidly growing research field.
This article provides a brief overview of different narrative approaches in social scientific inquiry. First different definitions, methodological and epistemological approaches are introduced. Then, the emergence of a narrative approach in the social sciences is situated in historical and societal contexts. Finally, some challenges and potentials of developing this rapidly growing approach are identified. In particular the use of technological developments and the advancement of the relational turn in narrative inquiry are addressed. In the discussion, arguments are presented concerning a more methodical approach and attention is drawn to the risks of losing the humanistic potential of narrative research.

Master's thesis analyzes the contemporary Alcohol Control Policy of Lithuania. Author of the work conducted a public opinion survey-interview, used the analysis of scientific literature and other methods of research to disclose and evaluate the issues of the Lithuanian Alcohol Control Policy. The paper not only reveals the lack of implementation of alcohol control in Lithuania, but also provides guidance on how to improve it with/adapting the effective science-based and used globally alcohol control measures. Lithuanian residents (survey data) and alcohol-control experts have an average view of this policy. Many of them support the stronger alcohol control policy. One of the major constraints on evidence-based alcohol policy development – strong influence of the alcohol industry in the country.

The world of the Hindi heroes of the 1970s, while decked in battle gear, largely belonged to the official state apparatus, either as members of vigilante self-defence squads – of which Bahadur was a pioneer – or bonafide members of the police force, like Inspector Vikram. The costumed superhero only emerged at the end of the Nehruvian period, gradually coming to defy its signature science and rationality. My article seeks to explore questions of the political economy of the superhero genre and the affective valences of the supernatural in imaging/negotiating the national and transnational, through this conjunctural moment of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The main objective of the article is to reflect on the imaginary that the teachers of two public schools have of their students and the school they work in and the ideal of an inclusive and democratic school. In this article, we reflect on the image that the teachers of two public schools in the city of Rio Claro, São Paulo State, Brazil, have of their students and their school as an institution.
