A formação inicial de professores, comumente, propõe princípios da prática investigativa como abordagem metodológica docente, constituindo-se em aprendizagem e construção reflexiva do professor. Nesta perspectiva, muitas instituições incluíram no currículo o Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso. Nesta atividade, investigamos os principais atributos do professor orientador ao desenvolvimento da reflexividade dos orientandos. Os sujeitos foram sete acadêmicas de Pedagogia. Os encontros de orientação foram gravados e transcritos e a apresentação oral da pesquisa videogravada. Foi solicitado para que cada acadêmica registrasse em portfólios, o processo de pesquisa vivenciado. Na realização de sua primeira pesquisa verificamos que as acadêmicas foram dependentes, apresentando medos e inseguranças frente ao novo. Os principais atributos da orientação à promoção da reflexividade das acadêmicas foram: mediação do conhecimento; auxílio na definição e compreensão da teoria; sinalização da necessidade de um olhar crítico frente ao fenômeno estudado; indicação de cuidados éticos à pesquisa; assunção de uma atitude indagativa; sinalização da incerteza do processo de pesquisa; animação do processo de aprendizagem das acadêmicas; inserção das acadêmicas em eventos científicos e solicitação do registro da pesquisa em portfólio. Este resultado vem ressaltar a importância da figura do orientador no processo de pesquisa à promoção da reflexividade docente.

This research aims to examine teacher's initial perceptions of STEM Education. The participants in this study were 43 in-service STEM related subject teachers from the northeastern region in Thailand who were keen on participating in the STEM Education for Educators Module, Khon Kaen University. The data was collected through an open-ended questionnaire of Teacher's Perceptions of STEM Education (TP-STEM) prior to the process of professional development beginning. The aspects of TP-STEM included (1) STEM concept; (2) Experience implementing STEM; (3) STEM PK; (4) Teacher' competency for STEM education; (5) Assessment in STEM education; (6) Supporting STEM education in schools; and (7) Research in STEM education. An interpretative paradigm was implemented as a methodology to interpret qualitative data in this research. Research findings were discussed around seven aspects of teacher's perceptions of STEM education according to the TPSTEM questionnaire. The findings reveal that teacher's perceptions of the STEM concept goes around the term integrated STEM disciplines. Surprisingly, the majority of teachers had never implemented STEM education in their teaching and a number of teachers tend to separate STEM teaching into each discipline rather than link the disciplines for problem solving. Key PK in STEM education was emphasised on practicing, active learning, and integrated disciplines. Teacher's indicated PK (PK) as the most significant competency for STEM education, whereas partnership was also considered as a competency to support successful STEM implementation. Authentic assessment and formative assessment were emphasised as key features for assessment in STEM education. Teachers indicated good organisation and support from schools on resources, policy, and professional development for successful STEM implementation. Also, enhancing student's skills, and innovation were indicated as a focus for STEM education research. These findings could explicitly indicate the trail for professional development (PD) provided that teacher's ideas about STEM education are related closely to the STEM philosophy from the basic background to implications for a more efficient outcome for implementing STEM education in schools. Moreover, there were indications of the need for support from the Ministry of Education, school administrations, and experts from universities in order to produce effective STEM Education in Thailand. The paper has implications for STEM education professional development not only in Thailand but also for Asia Pacific countries.

This article analyzes the interplay of government and universities in developing policy about teacher education in England and Canada in the last twenty years. It draws on Gideonse's (1993) formulation of three distinct modes of governing teacher education: a political mode, in which the state dominates; an institutional mode, in which the university dominates; and a professional mode, where teacher organizations dominate. Using this conceptual framework, I examine three quite different patterns of governance in England, Manitoba (Canada) and British Columbia (Canada). The changes over the last twenty years within these jurisdictions suggest that the ability of universities to exert de facto control over initial teacher preparation with little involvement of the state and little accountability to the profession has changed substantially.

In this paper we outline the philosophy and research foundations underpinning the development of CaBan – an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Partnership developed for the purpose of educating the teachers of tomorrow for North Wales. CaBan represents an ambitious 'learning partnership' of five partners consisting of regional schools, Bangor University, University of Chester, the regional school improvement service (GwE), and the Collaborative Institute for Education Research, Evidence and Impact (CIEREI). Each partner plays a key role in fulfilling our ambitions to contribute to Our National Mission and achieve our vision of 'Growing Tomorrow's Teachers Together.' At its core, the goal of CaBan is to support our new Associate Teachers (ATs) to become creative, inspiring and highly skilled teachers who will contribute to the delivery of A curriculum for Wales – a curriculum for life (Welsh Government, 2015). In this paper we outline: (i) our basic vision and mission as a learning partnership; (ii) the evidence to support our strategic pedagogical position with respect to growing tomorrow's teachers; (iii) the crucial role of mentoring in the development of our ATs as critically reflective practitioners; (iv) how we integrate research as a fundamental element of all we do; (v) how our programme design is underpinned by the notion of professional enquiry and career long professional learning (vi) the specific modes of learning that help nurture ATs' sense of their 'teaching self '; and crucially (vii) the importance of Welsh culture and the Welsh language in education and the role the CaBan partnership has in building capacity to help realise Welsh Government's vision for a million Welsh speakers by 2050.

Some teachers made recommendations such as additions or deletions thatwould strengthen the standards. Some teacher respondents selected more than one standard in theirresponses.

The implementation of inclusive education in practice results in greater complexity of the teacher's role, andpre-professional teacher's training imposes new approaches, values and expectations. The initial education is the first step in teachers' professional training. Training of future teachers for competent performance in the field of inclusive practice should be one of the priorities in the development of curricula and programs of initial teacher's education. The aim of this research was to determine the possibilities of initial teacher's education for the acquisition and development of inclusive competencies. To obtain the necessary data, we used the documentation analysis procedure. We analyzed the initial teacher's education programs at the University ˝Dzemal Bijedic˝ of Mostar, the University of Tuzla and the University of Zenica. The analysis of initial teacher's education programs showed inconsistencies in the number and representation of subjects relevant to inclusive education at three universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, lack of cross-curricular approach to inclusive education, and lack of integration of theoretical and practical participation in curricula intended for the development of inclusive competencies. The obtained results imply the direction of changes within the initial teacher education program that would lead to the more efficient acquisition of inclusive competencies of future teachers.

À partir d'un modèle synthétique des compétences multiculturelles en éducation, cette étude de cas examine la place et l'enseignement/apprentissage de l'éducation multiculturelle dans le cadre du programme de formation initiale de futurs enseignants de français langue seconde offert dans une université ontarienne. L'analyse curriculaire et des données quantitatives et qualitatives recueillies auprès d'étudiants-maîtres et de leurs professeurs souligne des écarts entre la philosophie multiculturelle promue dans les discours politiques et celle du programme étudié. Multicultural Education in the Initial Training of Teachers: From policies to practices ABSTRACT. Based on a synthetic model of multicultural competencies in education, this case study examines the role and teaching/learning of multicultural education in the initial training program delivered by an Ontario university to future teachers of French as a second language. Analysis of the curriculum and of the quantitative and qualitative data collected from student teachers and their professors reveals differences between the multicultural philosophy promised in political discourse and the multicultural philosophy of the program under study.

This study investigated the attitudes and perceptions of student teachers towards assessment as they completed their teacher education training programme in a government teacher training college. Data were collected from 52 final year (end-of-course) student teachers using semi-structured questionnaires designed with the assumption that assessment and learning intersect during training. The results revealed that student teachers perceived learning experiences and assessments as opportunities to construct and reconstruct some of their core images about teaching. Various elements of teacher education assessment were valued by student teachers as helping them 'feel like' or 'perform as' teachers. To student teachers, assessment is seen as a means to validate their identity as future certified teachers. As demand for teacher quality is getting higher, there is also need to improve and enhance the pedagogic role of assessment in initial teacher education programmes. DOI:10.5901/jesr.2015.v5n1p11

In an era when U.S. and Mexican teachers are valued more for their academic achievements than their community-based knowledge and local/ethnic identity (e.g. Teach for America, or its off-shoot, Teach for Mexico), this study provides initial results of a one-year (2011-2012) intensive professional development experience (called a diplomado) for 35 indigenous teachers of Initial Education who are "teaching their own babies" in marginalized communities of Oaxaca, Mexico, as documented in portfolios of written and photographic evidence produced by the teachers as their final diplomado product. The goal was to enrich these local teachers' background knowledge and equip them with research skills to investigate and honor the communal practices, governance, and perspectives (known as comunalidad) of the rural indigenous communities where they teach, in order to generate an authentic, community-based approach to Initial Education for pregnant mothers, babies and toddlers up to 3 years old – a ground-breaking alternative to the Mexican government's homogeneous Initial Education approach. Early findings indicate that these Oaxacan indigenous teachers faced a complex of internal and external challenges in this radical, regenerative work: they are young, female, mostly novice teachers, they lack professional preparation, and they have confronted racism throughout their own lives, especially and intensely in Mexican public schools. In the process of documenting communal life and early childhood socialization practices in rural communities where they teach, they confronted their own (often uneasy) biculturalism and bilingualism. "Communalizing" early education in indigenous Oaxaca involves reconstructing and revitalizing the indigenous identities and language use of children and teachers alike. Preparing these local indigenous teachers to "teach their own babies" is a challenging but invaluable and achievable task.
