The STS movement, which emerged in embryonic in the middle of last century and made over the decades, remains relevant to the society we live in. Thus, it is recurrent the need for a participation of this society in the direction given to the scientific and technological activity, demanding more democratic decisions. In this sense the research is based on the questionings: what is the characterization of educational practices carried out in STS field in Basic Education and in teacher training?; And, as has been the participation of society in scientific and technological development? As objectives, we seek: (i) identify which subjects have participated in decision-making on scientific and technological development, and how; (ii) analyze data referrals in respect of educational practices STS; (iii) to investigate whether the STS assumptions are advancing the Academy to implement educational practices; (iv) to point out horizons for Science Education in the perspective of curricular settings guided by the constitution of a culture of participation. It is a bibliographical research whose methodology was the Discursive Textual Analysis, composed of unitarization, categorization and communication. The corpus of analysis emerged four categories: 1) Limitations practices STS implemented; 2) Methodological aspects of practicas STS; 3) Social participation in the development of ST in classrooms; 4) Justifications for insertion of STS practices.
From the seizure of power by Getúlio Vargas and the 1930 Revolution, a new political scenario began. Due to the drop in the price of coffee, the agro-export model was in a process of decay, as it was no longer possible to artificially maintain the value of this product. Added to this factor are the restrictions caused by the financial crisis of 1929, which implied a drop in external demand and the emergence of new competitors. In this context, intellectuals are more intensely subordinated to the political situation than to cultural issues. The function and performance of intellectuals, in this way, go beyond the strictly intellectual field and enter that of the political. Thus, the present work aims to demonstrate the relationship between Brazilian modernization and the institutional and intellectual development of Social Sciences in Brazil.
Festivities not always are taken seriously as objects of study, but they have long attracted the attention of social scientists and other researchers. However, its analysis tends to be restricted and enclosed in some classical conceptions that, although relevant and useful, have become mere buzzwords and do not live up to the richness and complexity of this field of study. This article aims to provide some insights for the analysis of the festivities, focusing particularly on carnival and the way it has been treated by Social Sciences. It begins by exposing and discussing some theoretical recurrences – namely the theories of inversion, escape valve, resistance and communitas – and then presents other analytical perspectives that look at different facets of the festivities – cultural, social, economic and political – thus suggesting more in-depth and committed approaches to social reality and less hostage to the abstraction and dryness of theoretical models.

; From my field experience in Angola, I seek to question the traditional characterization of Brazilian anthropology - and by extension of the social sciences - as made by "Brazilians" about "Brazil", reflecting on the new profile of social scientists regarding ethnic belonging, racial and class that has pluralized for the past 20 years. This transformation of the profile of social scientists challenges the idea of "us the anthropologist" built on a nation-centered idea that does not recognize its class, race and territory, i.e. white, middle class, or socialized status in the south / southeast of the country. I defend the decentering of the Brazilian social sciences inspired by the new movements of decolonization of the social sciences. This decentering involves the recognition and politicization of the hegemonic whiteness of the social sciences as a condition for its critical revision.
This article seeks to discuss the vision of the 'social' in the field called social determinants of health. For this, bibliographical research was conducted, based on references from the field of human sciences, by authors such as Latour (2012) and Santos (1988). It begins with a general characterization of the field of social determinants of health, especially political and scientific views. Then, it presents the critical elements characterizing paths on the thinking of these authors. The study sought to highlight reductionism increasingly present in the approach to the field of social determinants of health. These reductionisms that ultimately limit further reading about the complexity of life in society and reinforce the commodification and trivialization of life. Santos (1988) notes that, in front of these reductionism, science cannot be merely producing a scientific paradigm, but also a social paradigm - the paradigm of a decent life. The thinking of Latour (2012) brought arguments to rethink the 'social' beyond a specific and limited domain of reality, as something always external to the subject and to their own health. The fragmented view of the field of social determinants of health is what we put into analysis and make inquiries as a way to raise future discussions on the topic.
The situation John Godfrey Saxe describes in his 19th century poem retelling the parable of the blind men and the elephant is not unlike the birthing pains of the emerging discourse between Western and Indigenous Knowledges. In this paper I propose that the "disputations" have nothing to do with such reified notions as "clash of ideologies" or "metaphysics," but are rather more semiological in nature. Semiotics, to which linguistics belongs, is an undiscovered country whose vistas may provide more efficacious roadmaps to meaningful communications between disparate knowledges – i.e., Western Science and Indigenous Knowledge. I propose to examine a specific case of a wildlife management issue in Nunavut, Canada, whose outcomes will determine not only the viability of a species but the quality of the relationship between Inuit Qaujimaningit and Governments. The original article is in Inuktitut. The Social Sciences demarcate their importance in the construction of the plural and democratic identity of modern society, whose civilizing principles have been historically represented in the process of elaborating the sociological, anthropological and politological discourse of civilizational progress. In Brazil, in recent years, more in-depth debates about the teaching of Social Sciences in Basic Education began to be guided. Since the mandatory teaching of Sociology, understood as a formative space in Social Sciences in High School, Brazilian society began to reflect on the place of Anthropology in school. In this perspective our research originates, in order to understand the teaching / learning process of Anthropology in the scope of Basic Education. Thus, the purpose of this article is to reflect on the contributions of anthropological knowledge and Social Sciences in the school context, thinking about their challenges and contributions in the teaching practice and in the construction of critical reflexivity about society and culture. The guidelines that regulate ethics in research involving human beings in Brazil, especially those that refer to the areas of the human and social sciences and to the sciences of education, are analysed in their relationships to bioethics and the sciences of life. The difficulties raised by researchers in the human areas in their dialogue with the interdisciplinary ethics committees are considered, including the possibility of disconnecting the authorization for research in these areas from the CEPs-CONEP system, the National System of Committees of Ethics in Research run by the National Health Board. Nevertheless, it is argued that the main focus of this system of ethics in research is the protection of the physical and mental health of the participants, which is considered a question within the area of bioethics and health, and broadly as a biopsychosocial process. It is also observed that the data collection techniques developed by the human and social sciences (interviews, questionnaires, observations or participant observations) are also utilized by the sciences of life. These considerations indicate that the dialogue between the areas, proportioned by the interdisciplinary composition of the ethics committees, is salutary and necessary for the good functioning of the system, despite the possibility, contemplated in the legislation, of specific committees existing for judging research ethics in the human and social sciences. It is proposed that new research be carried out for monitoring the functioning of the committees of ethics in universities and research institutions to perfect the regulatory system.

This research analyzes the formative and professional trajectories of three teachers who develop social sports projects of capoeira, volleyball, and badminton. This is a descriptive and multi-case study, anchored in the narrative research tradition. Sports marked the pre-professional socialization, as well as family and school education. They acquired experience doing the extracurricular internships in sport projects or had to seek new knowledge to act. Two teachers are in the career diversification phase and the most experienced teacher is in the stage of renewing interest in the profession. Sports social projects have no funding; teachers work voluntarily and have found creative solutions to finance expenses. In addition to technical training and results in competitions or sporting events, teachers are very concerned with the human education of the public served, demonstrating a strong educational and social commitment to their students and communities.
The training of teachers for Secondary Education / High School (ES / EM) of Geography and Social Sciences in Brazil and Spain has its own characteristics in its host countries. In this research, we sought to understand the process of teacher training for this level of education in these countries. The methodological procedures covered the analysis of their legislation, examination of documents, with emphasis on the works of Master's Degree (TFM) and follow-up of teacher training classes in the Master of Training of Professor of Geography and History of the University of Valencia (UV) . In addition to these procedures, instruments / polls were applied to the students of the Master of the UV to understand their motivations for the teaching of Geography and Social Sciences. The results point to a convergence of formative processes, although in Spain Secondary and Secondary Education teachers, who correspond to the High School in Brazil, have to take a Master's degree to practice teaching at that level of education. It is considered that the training at the masters level that has been followed is of a high level and allows the students in training to reach the contents and teaching skills for the teaching of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate in Spain for the proposed disciplines. However, in Brazil, teacher training is developed in undergraduate courses, in the specific degrees, in this research did not analyze any teacher training school for basic education, only the legislation and structuring regulations of undergraduate courses. It is concluded that the training of ES / MS teachers in Geography and Social Sciences in Brazil and Spain are distinct, mainly, in the following aspects: a) In Brazil ES / MS teacher training occurs in Faculties of Teaching, in graduation level; b) In Spain, teacher training for ES / MS occurs, as well as throughout the European Higher Education Area, in Master's courses, at postgraduate masters level; c) Brazilian teachers with a degree in Geography are also qualified to teach classes in Elementary School II; and, d) The teachers who are graduates of the Master do not have the competence to teach in Primary Education, this is reserved for the graduates of the Primary Education Teacher Training Course.
Ilus. Tab. Bib. Sum. (En) ; Secondary forests developing on agricultural land after it is abandoned, or as the fallow period in systems of subsistence agriculture, are an increasingly important component of the forest resources of the tropics. They fix and store carbon and may contribute to the alleviation of global warming, they are refuges for biodiversity in agricultural landscapes, and they are low-cost sources of a tremendous variety of forest products. The final years of the 20th century represent an opportune time to bring together researchers concerned with biological, ecological, social/organizational, financial/economic and political aspects of secondary forests and their management, to share their experiences and opinions concerning secondary tropical forests and to contribute to the development of a forward-looking, cross-disciplinary research agenda. The conference had the following objectives: 1) to summarize the state of knowledge of tropical secondary forests from the standpoint of the ecological, social and political sciences. 2) to report the most recent results of research on secondary forests from all relevant disciplines.
