Transit-oriented development (TOD) arouses a great deal of interest as the interaction between transport and land use becomes a key topic in regional and urban planning. Even though accessibility is a key driving factor, it is barely assessed with accuracy. In Europe, the scope of TOD effects is large. It strongly influences the development of regional transport. Regarding that, this research brings forward a method that is based on multiscale accessibility measures to evaluate TOD strategy in a metropolitan European region. Hence, it proposes a multiscale accessibility method. On one hand, it introduces the pedestrian accessibility indicators at the local scale. On the other hand, it tackles the schedule accessibility measures in a constraints-based approach at the regional scale. This method is implemented in assessing the potential of TOD strategy in Nord Pas-de-Calais (France). For that, two TOD scenarios are presented. The first one tackles the main metropolitan center but does not include downtown. The second one deals with a second-order peripheral pole. These scenarios present difficulties in gathering both an effective local TOD and a sustainable development policy at the regional scale. However, a TOD center can enhance the intermediate scale urban centrality when using intermediate schedule accessibility measures (for coaches and buses). Furthermore, the indicators about the rail transit system highlight an uncertainty in the regional effects, which can only be solved by applying a major and expensive policy. The final remarks pave the way for further research regarding a full-fledged regional TOD strategy that includes a well-ordered dissemination of TOD centers.

In the novel, two storylines cross-pollinate: ex-President Nathan «Shagpoke» Whipple's successful fascist revolution and young Lemuel Pitkin's thwarted Algeresque success story. As young Pitkin gets dismantled and eventually assassinated, the retrained politician sets out to create his own Revolutionary Party to save his country from decay. This paper will re-articulate the two trajectories and show how they actually inform an American fascist myth. I will argue that in the context of the Depression, A Cool Million emerges as a uchronia, an alternate history dramatizing the advent of a dictator who decides to exterminate all that is un-American, seizing upon Lemuel Pitkin's martyr to forge and enunciate the official mythology of the new political regime. ; La novela A Cool Million (1934) escrita por Nathanael West se considera como una parodia socarrona del famoso cuento «Rags to Riches» popularizado por Horatio Alger, y también como una sátira del fascismo emergente, en tiempos de la Gran Depresión americana. En esta novela corta, dos relatos se van desplegando y cruzando: por una parte, la revolución fascista llevada hasta su desenlace por el ex-presidente Nathan «Shagpoke» Whipple y, por otra parte, el fracaso de la success story argelina de Lemuel Pitkin. Mientras el joven Pitkin se encuentra progresivamente despojado y finalmente asesinado, el político reconvertido se dispone a crear su propio Partido Revolucionario para salvar a su país de la decadencia. It also critically analyzes its principal arguments, focusing on its political purpose, which is to promote an exclusive secularism. Finally, this work presents the most important challenges for believers. In the world after 11-S, we must find a common space in which secular and religious people can collaborate. ; El «nuevo ateísmo» ha irrumpido con fuerza desde el inicio de siglo. Después de examinar sus principales rasgos distintivos y el contexto en que ha surgido, se presentan las principales obras y autores que lo sostienen. Seguidamente, se analizan de una manera crítica sus argumentos incidiendo en su finalidad política, que consiste en promover un laicismo excluyente. Finalmente, se presentan los principales desafíos que supone para el creyente. En el mundo que surge después del 11-S, debemos encontrar un espacio común en el que las personas no religiosas y las religiosas puedan colaborar.
