This book illustrates the main factors of vulnerability and gives a clear picture about the possible interventions to reduce disaster risks both in schools and communities in Azerbaijan. A new methodology for child centered vulnerability assessments both on school and community levels has been developed. This methodology can be used to assess the level of vulnerability of schools and communities. The book is a newly prepared training manual which will help practitioners conduct trainings for government and community organizations. While the book is focused on a specific region, the suggested approach is generic and can be used elsewhere.

During the presidency of Barack Obama (2009-2017), official Washington identified priority aspects of Middle East policy: preventing the development of nuclear energy by the Iranian leadership and achieving a final peaceful settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The response to the White House's readiness for diplomatic negotiations with the Iranian side without putting forward preliminary conditions was the unwillingness of the Iranian leaders to participate in the negotiation process on curtailing the development of the national nuclear program. As for the Palestinian-Israeli peace settlement, even here, despite a number of positive steps by the American administration, the parties failed to achieve tangible results at the negotiating table.

Mikhail Gorbachev's policy of perestroika and glasnost provided favorable conditions for the development of the Karabakh movement, the purpose of which was the annexation of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region of the Azerbaijani SSR to the Armenian SSR. One of the phases of this movement was the campaign to bring to trial Heydar Aliyev, which was conceived and launched by Igor Muradian. Another campaign to discredit H. Aliyev was organized by former high-ranking officials of the party and government bodies of Azerbaijan, who were removed from their posts by Heydar Aliyev in the 1970s. The analysis of numerous archival documents, which are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, give grounds to assert that these campaigns did not play any role in the removal of Heydar Aliyev from the highest echelon of power in the country.

AbstractSecularisation theory contends that religiosity and trust in religious organisations tend to decline when trust in their secular counterparts increases. However, it is puzzling why religious organisations receive public trust as high as their secular counterparts in countries where religiosity is low. If religious organisations are deemed to be doomed as trust in secular counterparts rises, why do people still trust them? We argue that a high level of trust in religious organisations is associated with their importance in nation‐building and national identity construction: Individuals with a strong national identity are more likely to trust religious organisations. Using both qualitative and quantitative data about public trust in the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) and Georgian Orthodox Church (GOC), this study finds that the historical role of religious organisations in strengthening national cohesion and building national identity during times of instability leads ordinary citizens to place both generational and strategic trust in these religious organisations.

The annexation of Kuwait by Iraq on the night of august 1-2, 1990 and the ensuing operation of the international coalition of countries led by the United States «Desert Storm» on 17 January, 1991 radically altered the entire interval political situation in the Middle East region having made official Washington the dominant power in the Gulf region. After the victorious completion of the Iraqi operation the USA president George H. W. Bush speaking in the United States Congress on 11 September, 1991 announced about the advent of a «new political order». The openly pro-American political position of Russian leader Boris Yeltsin also unequivocally testified to the establishment of a unipolar world.

The article discusses the historical problems of the epic Book of Dede Korkut, which occupy an important place in the heroic epics associated with the early middle Ages. As the researcher of the epic Book of Dede Korkut notes, this fact raises interest in comparing the events of the characters of the epic with real history. According to the general decisions of researchers, who study the epic Book of Dede Korkut, most of the events described in the epic, reflect the historical reality.
