Résumé Les droits de l'homme sont définis comme des représentations sociales normatives. Ils font l'objet d'un certain entendement commun au travers de frontières nationales et culturelles. Ils suscitent des prises de position différentes en fonction des capacités attribuées aux institutions et aux individus pour les faire respecter. Par ailleurs, un grand décalage existe entre l'adhésion aux principes des droits de l'homme et la tolérance à l'égard de leurs violations dans des situations concrètes. Une utilisation ethnocentrique des droits de l'homme s'observe souvent. Un danger spécial qui menace la mise en pratique de ces droits trouve son origine dans le fait qu'ils véhiculent une vision égalitariste de l'humanité qui occulte les multiples conflits qui la traversent.
