Das Sklavenschiff
Die mehrfach ausgezeichnete Darstellung des US-amerikanischen Historikers rekonstruiert die Reise des Sklavenschiffs "Diligent" von 1731 bis 1733 vom französischen Vannes nach Guinea, von dort nach Martinique und zurück in die Bretagne. Kern des Buches - und ein Glücksfall für die Geschichtsschreibung - stellt das private Logbuch des Ersten Leutnants des Schiffs dar. Dessen schrecklich sachliche Darstellung der Reise verdeutlicht die Brutalität des Geschäfts besser als jeder Sekundärtext. Harms versteht es, diese authentische und persönliche Darstellung in den geschichtlichen Rahmen einzuordnen und bietet dem an gründlicher Information Interessierten eine fesselnde Darstellung des Sklavenhandels im Rahmen des Dreieckhandels.
