Sweden
Describes features of family formation that are unique to Sweden, & questions some conventional interpretations of those features. Marriage & birth rates in Sweden have declined in modern times, while rates of informal cohabitation have risen. It is argued that the standard explanations given for this trend, eg, women's improved education or higher labor force participation, are too simplistic. In fact, no explanation for this trend is well supported. 14 Tables, 25 References. M. Wagner
