"In Italia c'é bisogno di più politiche per conciliare lavoro e famiglia." Così inizia la nota specifica per il nostro paese che l'OCSe ha redatto nel suo report 2011 dal titolo "Doing better for families". nel 2011 l'Italia era ben al di sotto della media OCSe rispetto ai tre indicatori cruciali per determinare la qualità di vita di una fa- miglia: occupazione femminile, tasso di fertilità e tasso di povertà infantile. "Il di- lemma italiano", riporta la nota, sta nel fatto che per la famiglia e in particolare per le donne, é molto difficile conciliare lavoro e figli. Allo stesso tempo, tuttavia, un elevato tasso di occupazione dei genitori riduce il rischio di povertà e specialmente di povertà infantile. Il tasso di povertà infantile nel 2011 in Italia era circa 15% tuttavia il rischio di povertà era molto alto per i bambini che avevano entrambi i genitori disoccupati. nel 2011, l'88% dei bambini che avevano un solo genitore disoccupato erano poveri (la media OCSe era 62%). Analogamente, il 79% dei bambini che vi- vevano con due genitori disoccupati erano poveri; tale percentuale scende al 22% quando solo uno dei due genitori ha un lavoro (le medie OCSe sono, rispettiva- mente, 50% e 17%).
