It is asserted that Karl Marx's reputation owes little, if anything, to his work as a social historian. Described here is a man obsessed with money & the state of his health, who has left an extensive record of the means by which a basically jobless revolutionary intellectual in exile managed to keep his family financially afloat, who chronicled the healing practices of many members of the medical profession & of the German spas, as he wandered Europe & North Africa pursued by death. These pictures, & this social history, are reconstructed from Marx's letters to Friedrich Engels, & to members of his family & political entourage. Modified AA
