Abstract The article intends to show the occurrency or not of some macroeconomic events identified by the literature as stylized facts. Those stylized facts have been associated with exchange-rate-based stabilization (ERBS) processes that took place in Latin America. This study has selected the experiences of Chilean tablita (1978-1982), the Mexican Solidariety Pact (1988-1994) and the Convertibility Law of Argentina (1991-2002). The analysis is based over the assumption that it may occurr in latin american pattern of macroeconomic evolution associated with the ERBS processes. The macroeconomic concepts and relationships analysed in this article are: nominal and real interest rate and private per capita consumption, exchange nominal rate, inflation rate for consumers and real exchange rate, and relative prices.
"This monograph is an exploration of the historical legacy of the Portuguese in the Indian Ocean, in particular in Goa, Macau, Melaka, and Malabar. Instead of fixing the gaze on either the colonial or the indigenous, it attempts to scrutinise a Creole space that is rooted in Indian Ocean cosmopolitanism"--
Abstract This paper intends to be a legal-philosophical approach to the film The Danish Girl, which tells the story of the first person to undergo a sex change surgery. However, the paper does not attempt to address the preeminent question in the movie, concerning gender issues. Our proposal comes from the hypothesis of art as the best conceivable place for the invention of an "other" that comes. The reflections brought about by the film point to the very heart of the Law and Humanities movement, since it shows how otherness may precede any conceptual dimension, as well as the important question concerning the possibility (or necessity?) of transformation of Law through art. Therefore, we will try to show how the idea of literature, based on Derrida's concept, Jacques Derrida, Positions (Belo Horizonte: Autêntica, 2001). could indicate a possible ethical path to implement the confluence between legal and artistic narratives, presenting itself as a fertile soil for the opening to the otherness that comes, towards the transformation of the very idea of justice.
FROM REVOLUTIONARY EXHAUSTION TO LIBERALIZATION: the trade union movement in the face of privatizations in Mozambique in the 1990s Fernando Bessa Ribeiro The purpose of the article is to analyze the position of the trade union movement in Mozambique in the face of privatizations in that southern African country in the 1990s. Developing an argument strongly supported by history, an understanding of the inability of the trade union movement to oppose this process effectively must consider its trajectory in Mozambique since its origins, post-Second World War, and the trajectory of the country, particularly post-independence, characterized by civil war and the defeat of the revolutionary project. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with trade union leaders and political leaders and consultation of documentary sources files from Mozambique. As its main conclusion, this study indicates that the failure of the trade union movement, in its fight against privatizations, was due to the articulation of various causes, especially those related to its lack of autonomy in relation to the Frelimo, the "party-State". Keywords: Trade union movement. Privatizations. State. Politics. Liberalization. Privatisations. État. Politique. Libéralisation. Collins' book presents a comprehensive, if necessarily concise, approach to the issue of the relations between Sanskrit—very broadly conceived, including various South Asian languages and writing systems—and Malay, equally broadly conceived, as his work contains forays into other Austronesian languages such as Tagalog, Batak, Rejang, and so on. Collins is not a Sanskrit specialist. Besides, in such a comprehensive and succinct work, covering so many fields, it is inevitable that the author will occasionally fall short here and there, although this in no way detracts from the value of his book. In particular, there is a complex interlocution that the author weaves throughout his text with his intended audience (see below for details). Collins has in fact made a name for himself in Malay linguistics, and perhaps his best known work (extant both in English and Indonesian translation) isMalay, World Language: A Short History. In the book reviewed here, Collins largely taps into over a quarter of a century of his own research and publications in English, Malay, and Indonesian, as well as a plethora of centuries-old colonial works related to Nusantara, originally published in Spanish, Dutch, English, French, and German (he can apparently read in all these languages, bar perhaps Spanish). It is a very informative and delightful work, and it should be translated into English and made more widely known.
