This article seeks to articulate in one image the diverse genocides in German history, an image able to capture the piling wreckages of history in a flash. The point of departure is a multimedia installation by William Kentridge called Black Box (2005), in which he thematizes the Herero and Namaqua genocide during German colonial rule between 1904 and 1908. This research wants to respond to Kentridge's demand for grief work, and relies on Walter Benjamin's (1968) vision of history writing and Rosemarie Buikema's (2020) concept of revolts to seek out theoretical and conceptual possibilities that allow it to posit simultaneously the singularity of the Holocaust, to articulate its deep connections with colonial crimes, and to demand a working through of Germany's genocidal history.

In diesem Aufsatz wird argumentiert, dass der Dokumentarfilm AUGENBLICKE. GESICHTER EINER REISE von JR und Agnes Varda einen zukunftsweisenden Ausgangspunkt für die Analyse von Klassenverhältnissen liefert. Zum einen stellt die Dokumentation die Arbeits- und Lebensbedingungen einer Landbevölkerung zentral, denen gemeinhin die darstellende und vertretende Repräsentation fehlt. Durch den Rückgriff auf Traditionen der Straßenkunst und der Arbeiter_innenfotografie entwickelt der Film des Weiteren repräsentative Alternativen, die Gemeinschaftlichkeit und Öffentlichkeit herstellen. Die Dokumentation zeigt auf, wie wenig mediale und politische Aufmerksamkeit jener Klasse gegeben wird, die keine Privilegien hat. Sie verdeutlicht, wie wichtig die Klassenrepräsentation ist, um den Rückfall in autoritäre Regierungsformen zu verhindern. ; This essay argues that the documentary FACES PLACES by JR and Agnes Varda provides a trend-setting starting point for the analysis of class relations. On the one hand, the documentation focusses on the working and living conditions of a rural population, which generally lacks aesthetic and political representation. By drawing on traditions of street art and working-class photography, the film also develops representational alternatives that create community and publicity. The documentary shows how little media and political attention is given to a class that has no privileges. It highlights the importance of class representation to prevent relapse into authoritarian governance.
