Our aim in this study is to evaluate the corporate social responsibility practices of Koza Mining Operations from the perspective of institutional mechanisms, and to reveal the society-based nature, which was inadequate in previous studies that explain the concept in particular.In particular, the fact that the institutional environment is subject to insufficient scrutiny by researchers and the studies conducted so far mainly on the place of responsibility practices related to financial performance have caused the concept to be subject to limited research in the literature. The study was carried out through in-depth interviews and archive scans with company officials in three mining sites (Bergama, Balıkesir and Gümüşhane) where the highest number of administrative lawsuits were filed against Koza Mining Operations. The case study method was chosen among the qualitative research methods in the study. According to the findings obtained from the study, it was determined that the company uses its corporate social responsibility practices as a public relations policy to solve or eliminate local or national problems (corporate legitimacy crisis) in the region.

The Cerattepe mining project for the extraction of gold and copper in the city of Artvin has been controversial since the mid-1980s. Local resistance against the project peaked in 2015-2016 in the form of blockages, sit-ins, social media protests, litigations, and signed petitions. This paper analyzes protests against the Cerattepe mining project in terms of their motivations, strategies, limitations, and political perceptions. Through an original survey analysis (N=253) and interview data, we find that the locals frame their activism as above party politics to keep a legitimate position in resisting the mining project. This strategy has remained intact for several years despite the politicization attempts of resistance from national-level political parties. We explain this strategy with the national consensus on prioritizing economic growth over environmental issues, neoliberal developmentalism with strong state support for private companies, and high levels of political polarization in society. Overall, the study offers an understanding of the challenges in front of environmental issue-based activism in Turkey and reveals the strategies of locals in resisting an environmentally destructive mining project.

Bu çalışmada, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin (ABD) Türkiye'deki yeraltı kaynaklarıyla ilgilenmesi ve Cumhuriyet döneminde, Türk Madenciliğinin geliştirilmesine ilişkin Amerikalı uzmanlar tarafından hazırlanan raporlar ve bunların içerikleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Çeşitli yönlerden önemli bir konuma sahip olan Türkiye toprakları, günümüze değin birçok devletin ilgisini çekmiştir. ABD de ilgi duyan devletlerden biridir. Onun bu coğrafyaya ilgisi 19. yüzyılın ilk yıllarına rastlamaktadır. Ticaret maksatlı kurulan ilk ilişkiler, zamanla dostluk ilişkileri çerçevesinde gelişme göstermiştir. 20. yüzyılın başlarında ABD, ticarî ilişkilerin dışında Osmanlı Devleti'nin yeraltı kaynakları ile de ilgilenmeye başlamıştır. Onun bu ilgisi Cumhuriyet döneminde de devam etmiştir. Türk ekonomisine yön vermek ve katkı sağlamak amacıyla ABD'li uzmanlar tarafından değişik zamanlarda raporlar hazırlanmıştır. Bu raporlarda, ekonomik hayatın bütününe ilişkin öneriler yanında, ekonominin önemli bir ayağını oluşturan madencilik alanıyla ilgili olan öneriler de yer almıştır. Bunların içinde en önemlileri: Türk madenciliğinin geliştirilmesi için devletin bu alandan uzak tutulması, yabancı sermaye ve özel teşebbüse önemli ölçüde yer verilmesi ve yeni bir maden kanununun yapılmasıdır. Genel olarak Türk hükümetleri, önerilenler doğrultusunda hareket ederek ekonomi politikalarını oluşturmuşlardır. ; In this study, an information was given about the reports and their contents written by American experts on the development of Turkish mining sector during the Republic Period and the interest of United States of America (USA) in Turkish underground sources. Turkish land that has importance in different aspects has appealed the interest of many countries up to today. The USA is one of these countries. The interest of the USA on Turkish land started in the first half of 19th century. The first affairs based on trade turned into a good friendship in the following years. At the begining of 20th century the USA started to deal with the underground sources of Ottoman Empire besides the trade affairs. The interest continued during the Republic Period. The USA experts typed reports about Turkish economy to support and make contributions. In these reports there were suggestions not only about the whole aspects of the economy but also about the mining. The most important suggestions among them are: a new mining law should be prepared, private and the foreign finance sectors should be supported to take part in mining and the goverment should be away from it. The previous Turkish Goverments established mining policies regarding to these reports.

Günümüzde dünya ticaretinin %90'ından fazlası deniz yolu ile yapılmaktadır. Türk Boğazları dünyanın işlek deniz yollarından biri olarak dünya ticareti açısından önem arz etmektedir. 2021 yılında İstanbul Boğazı'ndan yaklaşık 39 bin, Çanakkale Boğazı'ndan ise yaklaşık 44 bin gemi geçiş yapmıştır. Bu gemilerin yaklaşık %60'ı uğraksız geçiş yapmıştır. Türkiye, Montrö Boğazlar Sözleşmesi esaslarına göre boğazlarından geçiş yapan bu gemilerden Altın Frank cinsinden ücret tahsil etme hakkına sahiptir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türk Boğazlarından uğraksız geçiş yapan gemilerden tahsil edilen fener ve tahlisiye hizmetleri ücretlerinin belirlenmesinde temel alınan 1 Altın Frank'ın, 2012-2021 yılları arasındaki on yıllık süreçte Türkiye'nin belirlemiş olduğu değerine göre gerçek değerinin belirlenerek, bu hizmetlerin ücret tahsilinden doğan ekonomik kazanım ve kayıpların tespit edilmesidir. Türkiye tarafından 1 Altın Frank'ın değeri 39 yılın ardından 2022 ve sonrasında 2023 yılında güncellenmiştir. Çalışmada, bu güncelleme kapsamında belirtilen hizmetlerin ücret tahsilinden doğan ekonomik kazanım ve kayıpların da belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Türkiye, 2012-2021 yılları arasında 1 Altın Frank'ın değerini olması gereken gerçek değerine göre ortalama 16,44 kat daha düşük belirlemiştir. Türkiye, 1 Altın Frank'ın değerini 7 Şubat 1983-6 Ekim 2022 tarihleri arasında sabit tutuğu değere göre 7 Ekim 2022 tarihinde 5,06, 1 Temmuz 2023 tarihinde ise 5,48 kat artırmıştır. Fakat, yapılan hesaplamalara göre Türkiye 1 Altın Frank'ın değerini olması gereken gerçek değerine göre 7 Ekim 2022 tarihinde 3,87 kat, 1 Temmuz 2023 tarihinde ise 4 kat daha düşük belirlemiştir. Türkiye'nin 2012-2021 yılları arasında boğazlardan uğraksız geçiş yapan gemilerden tahsil ettiği fener ve tahlisiye hizmetleri ücretlerinden 4 milyar 668 milyon 574 bin 227 $ kaybı bulunmaktadır.

Forestry higher education has been offered since 1857. This study investigates the alterations made in the tertiary forestry institution names in Turkey under three periods: (1) between the years 1857 and 1934, (2) between the years 1945 and 1948, and (3) between the years 2006 and 2018. The Faculty of Forestry was under the Ministry of Mining during the first period, which later became a unit under the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1934, during the Republican period, it became a subdivision of Ankara Yuksek Ziraat Enstitusu (Ankara Institute of Advanced Agriculture, YZE). All those changes in this period improved the reputation of the institution and the occupation. In the second period, tertiary-level forestry education was separated from YZE and incorporated into Istanbul University. The faculty members and the councils of the Faculty of Forestry were directly involved in the decision-making processes required by this change. However, the third period is marked by regulations that were made without involving any forestry education institutions and professionals. Due to the lack of a clear higher education policy, the names of institutions have not been preserved and the formation of an academic tradition in the forestry institutions has been delayed.

Aristoteles'in siyasetle ilgili düşüncelerinin, Politika, Nikomakhos'a Etik, Eudemos'a Etik, Atinalıların Devleti ve Retorik adlı eserlerinde yer aldığı söylenebilir. Politika'nın ikinci kitabında sözlerine "sırada devletin biçimini tartışmak ve hangisinin daha iyi olduğunu anlayabilecek durumda olduğumuzu varsayarak bunu anlamaya çalışmak var" diyerek başlayan Aristoteles, bunun için iyi yönetilen bazı devletlerin anayasalarına bakmaya ve, hiç kuşkusuz Platon'u kast ederek, bazı yazarların ütopyalarına bakmaya ihtiyaç duyulacağına işaret eder. Platon'da olduğu gibi, devletten hep site devletini anlayan Aristoteles'e göre, devlet adamıyla devlet, kralla uyrukları, aile reisiyle ev halkı, efendiyle köleleri arasındaki ilişkilerin hep aynı türden ilişkiler olduğunu sanmak yanlıştır. Aristoteles, ne zengin azınlığın ne de yoksul çoğunluğun değil de, ancak ortak çıkarın gözetilmesiyle oluşabilecek orta tabakanın güçlü olduğu ve adaletin kendisiyle tecelli ettiği bir yönetim biçimi olan politeianın oligarşi ile demokrasinin uzlaştırılması sonucunda ortaya çıkabileceğini öne sürer. Demokratik anayasanın oligarşik anayasaya göre isyana ve devrime daha az açık olması nedeniyle ötekine göre daha sürdürülebilir bir nitelik taşıdığı kanısında olan Aristoteles, hem etik hem siyaset anlayışının merkezinde yer alan altın orta ilkesi gereği, güçlü bir orta tabakaya yaslanan anayasanın en güvenli ve en sürdürülebilir bir anayasa olacağından kuşku duymamaktadır. ; It can be said that the thought of Aristotle regarding politics takes place in his works: Politika, Nikomakhos'a Etik, Eudemos'a Etik, Atinalıların Devleti and Retorik. At the outset of his second book of Politika, he argues that "our purpose is to consider what form of political community is best of all for those who are the most competent to realize their ideal of life." To be able to accomplish this, he indicates that we have to examine not only the constitutions of "well-governed states" but also "any theoretical forms", held in esteem. Aristotle undoubtedly refers to Platon and argues that it is a necessity to understand some author's book related with Utopia. As is the case with Plato and Aristotle who always understands a state as the "site," considers that it is wrong to think that the relationship between statesman and state, households and householder, slaves and master are the same kind of it. Aristotle argues that neither rich minority nor poor majority, but the common interest of the middle layer constituted with observance is robust and the politeia, a form of government manifested its own justice, can occur as a result of reconciling democracy with oligarchy. Aristotle, who is of the opinion that democratic constitution is a more sustainable constitution compared to oligarchic constitution due to its less obviousness to rebellion and revolution, in keeping with the principle of the "Golden Middle," located in the heart of both ethics and politics, has no doubt about that constitution leaned on a strong middle class will be the safest and most sustainable constitution.
