Abstract

The conflict in Kurdistan is one of the longer duration and gravity throughout Middle East; and above all, must be considered as a regional conflict, which not only runs in Turkey, but has influence in the economic, military and diplomatic relations between the West and the Islamic world. The procedures for the accession of Turkey to the European Union (since 1999), the invasion of Iraq (2003-2011) and the arab riots in Syria (2011) are tangential issues in appearance that have directly affected the situation of the inhabitants of Kurdistan. The Kurds, living in an area that oozes oil and water, and in the strategic path of the oil and gas pipelines that supplies (now or in the future) to the West, have seen how their aspirations for a free and independent State, which once was recognized, are today farest than ever.
