Abstract

the aim of this study is to include in the Kāmasūtra text their normative aspect, in order to compare it with other Hindu legal texts. It can thus be seen that the Kāmasūtra is the receptacle and mirror of a number of social and family rules in ancient India, which form part of a complex set of rules. This can be used by a Western lawyer to introduce this particular, complex and completely different legal system from what he knows. In addition, consideration may be given to the way in which the law is seized, or not, of charnel relations. ; International audience This study aims at revealing the normative aspects of the Kāmasūtra in order to compare them to other Hindu legal texts. One has to understand that the Kāmasūtra are in fact the vessels and the mirrors of ancient India's social and family rules, which demonstrate how much of a sophisticated set of rules they are. This standpoint can serve as an introduction for Western lawyers to this particular and complex system that is completely different from their own legal culture.
